I've just installed FF5.55. Very impressive, especially the graphics Only thing is it doesn't seem to recognize my Cougar throttle. For increasing/decreasing thrust that is.
Gigabyte Ultra Durable 3 GA-EX58-UD4P motherboard, Intel i7 920 2.66Ghz/8Gb RAM chip set (only 3.5Gb available with XP & 32bit system), NVIDIA GeForce GTX275 video card, Realtek ALC850 sound circuitry, OS XP Home SP3, Samsung 21"(4x3)Flat LCD, TM Cougar joystick, TrackIR 3Pro, Logitech G330 Headset, ConnectAccess621 ADSL2/2 Router. Are you Tack? Comparisons? Nah, not going to start that flaming can of worm bait. These guys do alot for FreeFalcon MP. Best to ask them. http://veterans-gaming.com/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?11452.lastOnly thing I will say is FF5.55 works on my system, while OF chokes. Is that OF's fault? no. I don't understand how if people have problems with FF, like throttle doesn't work, while 99% of the other peoples throttles work, by setting it up correctly in Advanced Settings, that's FreeFalcons fault. but your mileage may vary. Just download it and try it.

In general, the pros/cons of Falcon flavors are:
Freefalcon: great graphics Open Falcon: great realism Allied Force: great multiplayer
I don't agree that Freefalcon is less "realistic", especially given all the work on the database, but that is an opinion that many have.
Freefalcon has done a lot of work to integrate other aircraft besides the F-16 into the sim, and allow the player to fly those aircraft with custom cockpits. Some aircraft are better modelled than others.
For me, Open Falcon does not run well on my system. However, from what I could see, it seemed like a fine sim and if it ran better I might spend more time with it.
Allied Force looks horrible on my widescreen monitor. However, I understand that it does multiplayer very well, and if that was something I did a lot of, I'd invest in an Aeyes AF widescreen pit or something, or just suck it up.
I develop on Freefalcon, and that is my flavor of choice. But, at one time or another I've had all versions on my HD. In fact, I believe...yep, I do...I have AF installed on my computer right now. I don't play it, but I would if I needed to for some reason.
AF costs like $10, OF and FF are free. I see no reason to not try them all unless you just don't have the time.

Hey, not trying to start flaming. Just wanting information. Thx for the link to Vets gaming. I worry about asking the same sought of questions: "Which is better, the Cougar or the X52?" But I think you can give objective advice and in truth people want to know. It only flames, like everything, when people can't let others have there say openly. "The Cougar or the X52?" I'm lucky enough to have both. Now lets have a look at OF ...... what did he say ...... good realism ....... interesting.

That's a great summary.
Things that jump out at me that are changed in FF5.55 from that summary are: the database is no longer locked (the Korea DB is, but there is a master DB that is included and is unlocked), the campaigns are "winnable", multiplayer is possible but requires a fairly rigid process to set it up properly, installation is one-click.
If I was going to form a multiplayer squad and fly online exclusively, I don't know that I'd pick FF5.55 as my sole Falcon version to fly. But, otherwise, I agree with that summary pretty much.

Well I've downloaded and installed OF. Very nice. I think I could go with any of the 3 at a quick glance although as I have a preference for multiplay so I think its F4AF for me. I now have AF, FF and OF installed. Well I did have FF running, but it refuses to load even though I have OF installed on a different drive. When I try to reinstall FF I get this: Its the same when FF is installed second, OF refuses to run. It must be a registry issue and gees I had my fair share of those recently.

will any of the run on Win7? 64bit? i will try when i get a chance, but was wondering if anyone knows. thx. 1. Install FF 5.5 and 5.5.5. 2. Change the .exe file (FFViper.exe) to "FalconAF.exe". (Or, make copy, whatever...) 3. Edit desktop shortcut, let it indicate 'FalconAF.exe' instead of 'FFViper.exe'. 4. Run the shortcut. 5. PROFIT! I'm running FF5.5.5 quite fine with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit, NVIDIA GTX460 (with driver 266.58) without problem. Of course, sometimes CTD god tries to keep me outta cockpit but it happened since 1990's. Oh, by the way. I usually keep game installations out of the 'Program Files (x86 or not)' directory and out of C:\.
