I've installed 409 beta, but there aren't any new single player maps when I run the program. What happened to Bessarabia, MTO, or Slovakia per the readme file. I'm no doubt missing something here, but how do I get these maps to come up in single player. Thanks for any help.

_falco,

Thanks for the reply. I might try that -- or I might just stick with Wings Over Vietnam.

_falco is right. It's kind of frustrating to not have immediate access to the new maps in either a campaign or the Quick Mission Builder but that has been the case with many new maps in the past.

If you want to explore the new maps, just open up Full Mission Builder and select the map you want. Choose a flyable aircraft from the Objects menu and click it onto the map while holding down your CNTRL key. Look at the properties for that plane and make sure you have box checked that makes it the player's plane. Save the mission to your single missions folder if you want, and then choose the 'Play' option. You'll be alone on the map but at least you can check everything out.

Remove before flight

Skycat,

Thanks for the reply. But if the new maps aren't available in the Quick Mission Builder they aren't of any use as far as I'm concerned. It looks to me like (for all practical purposes) single player is more or less officially unsupported. Too bad.

If you think that "single player" is exclusively "quick mission builder" then this is wrong and sad.

Well there are single player campaigns and the full mission builder. QMB is not the only single player experience...its meant to be very simple and quick to test a plane or a tactic out. Its unreasonable to expect that every new map added is going to be there...

These maps will filter there way into mission builders and you can count on us making scenarios available that take advantage of the maps. And there are the dynamic campaign folks that are working on these things too. Thats why they are putting these in...not for the QMB. Would be kind of nice but the extra programming is probably not worth it and its hard to argue that single player is not supported. The maps are the enablers for us mission builders...

I hope people do enjoy our campaigns. People really wanted to fly over the new Kurland map when that came out...well we do now and I've done my part to make sure there was a plausible and historical scenario available for that map. Its very likely I'd be doing the same for this map so hopefully the single player folks DO enjoy the map when time allows.

Waldo,

Just because I would like to be able to use more maps in QMB doesn't mean that I haven't done anything else in single player. I've done some campaigning -- and some single missions. But I can't say that I've ever used the full mission builder. I wasn't aware that extra programming was needed to make a map usable in single player. Don't be sad, be happy.

Don't know what all the fuss is about.. The QMB has only ever had a minute selection of any of the available maps.. Until people make a series of campaigns and single missions for the new maps, you will just have to make your own in the FMB.. it's not rocket science, and if people bother to read one of the many FMB guides that are fully accessible online, within 10-15 mins they will be flying one of their own.. This is the way it has been for most of the newly released maps over the years..

Hi guys,

Don't forget the free add-ons also, UQMG and Mission Mate for example. I for one have already started work on the new maps see this link Here. I'm sure UberDemon will update before long as well (probably before me!!) as he usually does. \:D

Folks, these maps look very good I am working quickly to make these available to MM users as fast as I can but remember it's Christmas as well and that's family time also. ;\)

Looking forward to bringing you these new maps chaps.

Cheers and Happy New Year, CrazySchmidt. \:\)

Excellent \:\)

I find the FMB tricky, counter-intuitive, and basically clunky and hard to use, I don't have the patience for its (many) quirks.

The UberDemon and MissionMate utilities are the dogs danglies for the likes of me, also it helps if you have friends like 123-Spider who has already sent me two single player missions on the Slovakia map ;\)

Open up the FMB Curious and select the Slovakia map, find an airfield and set a plane to takeoff and fly to one waypoint, then save the mission to the first coop folder. Next create a server (you'll be flying on the server locally at your machine without connecting the mission online) and jump in the plane and do bit of Slovakia sightseeing

You now have a simple set of tasks and you can ask in here for step-by-step instructions for each er, step until you get familiar with creating missions in the FMB

For anyone among our number I want to be there Louis Armstrong who wants to use the FMB to create missions this is really of course. Seize the moment

Loads of mission-building tutorials around of course but talking stepwise to a bunch of headcases beats reading pdfs and wotnot. Where headcases means people who've worked this stuff out already. Not me I qualify under the headcase rule but I'm purely advisory it's where the money is

In another world I am never afraid to ask the most basic questions when working on something fearsome at first sight. I'm noisy and have no shame you might have noticed but everyone can do this we all had to start from a position of knowing nothing about something at all. And with KotS and BoB on the horizon you will want to be able to create missions when you see the Southern England/Channel/Normandy whatever map I bet. I guarantee

You weenie CS try to set an example mate

Cut and paste this mission below into Notepad and Save As slovakiasightseeing.mis but take care not to allow Notepad to add the .txt extension by default

Change TAKEOFF to NORMFLY for an airstart

Save the mission file to your Missions\Net\coop\1 folder, look in that folder for the mission later when hosting the mission from Multiplayer (still not online, local server mode)

Get into Multiplayer/Cooperative mode and Create a server (you're still flying offline even though you're Creating a server, you're hosting a local server only if no one knows your IP, expect Nigerian bank managers)

[MAIN]
MAP Slovakia/load.ini
TIME 9.0
CloudType 1
CloudHeight 1000.0
army 1
playerNum 0
[Wing]
r0100
[r0100]
Planes 1
Skill 1
Class air.SPITFIRE925LBS
Fuel 100
weapons default
[r0100_Way]
TAKEOFF 110123.96 53345.73 0 0 &0
NORMFLY 110184.92 51280.53 500.00 300.00 &0
[NStationary]
[Buildings]
[Bridge]
[House]

Add an enemy plane by asking "Ok now how do I add an enemy plane I'm feeling frisky", set it to Ace and prepare to die. But much more beautifully

I've been doing just what Ming describes; the only reason I installed this beta is because it is maps. If it were just more a/c I'd have waited until the actual patch.
Been having great fun shooting up haystacks, all sorts of different kinds of oil tanks, and bombing the crap out of the new buildings :D.
Now I really, really, want to have the new objects in the FMB - some of them are superb. Eye candy here we come!

Single player maps?

Curious, you are confused \:\)

If you look at the maps in the Quick Mission Builder, you will find them to be "basic" maps, that are easy on your PC's resources

Since the sim first came out, the QMB has been for, literally, "Quick" dogfights- not for sightseeing \:\) It has always been this way, and it has been extremely rare for new maps to be in the QMB. I think you don;t realise the number of maps there are in the sim, even without 409

Many, many many many maps prior to the ones that just came out in the 409 beta, are not in the QMB. Singapore, Pearl harbor, Gulf of Finland, Kuban, Burma...just to name a few

You have the feeling that you are being "limited" or somehow missing out...these maps are for use in the sim, and we have the tools to do it, with the sim. Some find it hard but it is actually quite simple if you have it explained

But instead of the standpoint that you are being short-changed, and screw this noise, I'll play Wings over Vietnam...you could easily be enjoying the new maps. Trust me, the FMB ain't rocket science. Look at the jokers here who can use it!

What kind of car is that? What does it matter? When I drive it, I'm Steve McQueen

Funny Ming I did exactly the same thing as you with the FMB as soon as I installed the beta patch. Same map, same model of spit, but I put mine into single missions/Whizz.

All the best for the new year mate.

Yes so all we need now is someone to explain it. The call goes out to volunteers. Oops too late
