A few key points from my point of view:

I have the highest regard for Francis Ford Coppola as an artist and as an auteur. Godfather, Godfather II and Apocalypse Now will forever be in the pantheon of great cinema.


Having said that, Coppola is living in an alternate universe where apparently the 70's never ended. This movie he is currently working on has box office FLOP written all over it since mainstream audiences couldn't care less to see a movie about this subject matter.

According to IMDB Coppola originally wrote the script in the early 80s, which explains a lot. Funny that he is filming in Atlanta, as there are only a few, very short sections of road downtown that feel even remotely similar to New York City. Barely. If you're stretching things. Really they don't, but that's about as much big city as you're gonna get here.

I'd make an educated guess and say that his production budget would be at least doubled if he shot in NYC.

Well I'm happy they did because I really enjoyed that one. Zero messages for "modern audiences", zero political hits, zero wokeness, 10 seconds of backstory and love interest....all mission related...loved the helloutta it and can't freaking wait for the new one. I was chairforce and not a sailor so I have zero issues with naval/historical accuracy since I wouldn't know it if it hit me in the face.

He was actually Austrian and the German army got VERY close to taking Moscow in Dec 1941. Some units got within 25 miles.

Unlike Napoleon who had to retreat and leave Russia soon after he took Moscow, it took the Soviets 3.5 years to get the German Army out of USSR territory.

Had it not been for US/UK aide to the USSR Hitler would have probably been hailed as a military genius for Barbarossa, as he would likely have then conquered the USSR. I forget the exact numbers but a significant percentage of aircraft and armor used in the defense of Moscow in 1941 were western vehicles. Not to mention food, clothing, fuel, ammo etc

I will wait. I read that the movie was R rated and they cut it to PG13 to get more teenage audience and the R rated will be out later in the year.
