High over the Front
Body density maps. Used to mark bodies (or temporary expedient graves if found) for later collection into larger cemeteries. Grim work but necessary and one of honor though I’m not sure what the poor souls who had to actually do the job thought. One can imagine. Having done similar work (though hardly on this scale) it is a solemn task.
A reminder (if anyone here needed it) of the true cost of battle. Unfortunately not the “War to end all wars.”
