I liked Jade, although it was more for the action scenes than the mystery.  However, I admit I never really classify the films I watch for the most part aside from 3 categories: SF/fantasy, comedy, and "other." As such, I'm really hard pressed to remember which films I've seen qualify. The Jedi Master

In A Lonely Place - 1950, Humphrey Bogart http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0042593/Not necessarily my favorite, but it left an impression on me when I was a sprout, it tended to coincide with my interest in film noir and dark subject matter at the time, along with The Twilight Zone.
