Just had a great experience in the career mode.
Launched a lander to Minmus, and landed there, collected lots of the science!
Coming back to Kerbin, I ran out of fuel. Didn't have enough to land back at Kerbin, but luckily was able to get into orbit.
Normally (sandbox), I would have just 'oh well, sorry Jeb' and terminated the flight.
But!
I had all this science on board that I wanted, so I prepared a rescue mission. Built a shuttle with a structure that could 'hold' the stranded pod (it had no docking port), and launched it. To this point, I had never done any docking procedures, so after watching some tutorials on youtube, and a couple of tries, I was able to intercept, and turn both ships and burn to get back to Kerbin.

It was very gratifying and challenging, best experience in Kerbal that I have had to date.
