Hi guys.

I wanted to post this right away. I've been watching this 190 sinse they first started posting videos of it on youtube last Nov. Here it's getting it's paint and looking very good. I sure hope this one gets off the ground. I havent seen any videos of Flug Werk 190s flying other than slow test flights \:\(

You know, for painting in full-scale you'd think there would be an exponentially-increased chance of getting some accuracy out of it. But nope, he flubbed the eagle motif (where's the shoulder curve, and why is it cut off at the bottom of the engine access hatch?) and that scheme has no business being on an A-8 (which is what the Flug Werk aircraft are based on).

Still, the thing should look a treat once it finally gets off the ground (both literally and figuratively).

Classic.

Lots of money and passion spent in an aviation project, to end with an uninteresting finish, applied too fast, without enough prior researches (the eagle's head looks ridiculous).

Result: an aircraft which doesn't look like a WWII fighter, but like a toy.

Of course, this will satisfy the average Joe at the meetings, who is happy as long something looks cool.

P.S. Of course, no swatiskas on the tail, in spite it is not forbidden by the pc police in France.

I must repeat it, there is a thing which is still a complete mystery to me.

Why guys who can pay to themselves an aircraft which cost tons of money very often paint it with much less care (either for the choice of the finish or for the care of colors applying) than a plastic modeler with his 30 dollars kit?

Btw, the Flugwerk 190A's really look like late variants with the big machine guns, why did they choose an early variant, especially, when they are so many other interesting finishes possible?

Colour and insignia often seems to be a weak spot even with dedicated restorers, aircraft and vehicle.

If you want to avoid eye cancer never visit the vehicle museum in Sinsheim, germany.

Is there an echo in here? ;\)

If I were that bloke, I'd have gone with a nice RLM 81/82/76, plenty of mottling, and with a big fat RVT band (JG 301 probably) and fancy Gruppe markings...

Looks ok but yeah I wouldnt have painted it like an A-3/4

I would have picked a nice Colouful Jg300 or Jg301 scheme as well.

Well regardless of historical accuracy, still kind of fascinating to watch the process.

Perhaps some of you could volunteer your time in a supervisory capacity.

I can envision the lot of you donning the charcoal filtered masks.. pointing and gesturing going on out on the tarmac all the while.

(Fun guys ... just levity) ;\)

Yep, another classics, the überchromed Mustang, the Buchon in fake Luftwaffe colors, the P-40 always with its sharkmouth, the WWII bomber with its modern-designed pin-up, glossy colors on matte-painted aircrafts etc...

On the contrary, there are nevertheless examples of guys with plenty of money, BUT with good taste, like Paul Allen and his fabulous collection of WWII aircrafts, technically perfect, BUT also painted the right way.

Yes, really fascinating, just like looking at a guy who bought a Trimaster 190A kit, with expansive Waldron accessories and who paint it with Q-tips, without looking at any reference pictures! ;-)

Well, people at airshows don't really care. I don't really either. Im here to see them fly, not comment on the paintjob. Last show I went to a guy walked to the Duxford-based F6F Hellcat that had payed us a visit, and asked one of the mechanics tending to it ' 'scuse me sir, is that a Zero ?'
See now why they needn't make any efforts ? \:D

Cheers

Nico

I agree I'd rather see a more appropriate paint scheme for an A-8, but if the owner(s) can pony up the seven figures to buy one, they can paint it however they'd like. Having seen some of the "hello kitty" dogfight server schemes for download, it could definitely have been worse.

The lack of a Hakenkreuz is probably to allow the aircraft to be flown to airshows in Germany, so again, a sacrifice of authenticity, but with a purpose.

Full props for using semi-gloss paint. Most warbirds are painted gloss not to upset the diehards, but to make the aircraft easier to maintain. I agree that the highly polished 'Stangs tend to have a "pimp my Warbird" look to them, but again, the owners have the cash, and can finish them however they'd like.

I was just looking at the video again. Won't that shoulder come when they put the cowling on?

That's about as close to being Walter Dahl's scheme as that ridiculous red-nosed Sturmbock is to being Willi Unger's.

Hackl: Not from what I'm seeing.

THAT is what the eagle's head should look like.
