The Hobbit is an entirely different matter and I agree with you on this 100%! I think it was the second Hobbit film which had the chase scene on the river? Holy cow, that river chase scene seemed like it would never end and the antics and stunts you see performed really made it seem like a video game. Ridiculous indeed.
