Highly touted Finnish WWII film. Has anyone seen it, anyone own it, anyone have comments on it?

I've not seen it but I'm interested. I'll have to check and see if Netflix has it.

I've seen it. The only things that really bugged me was that the prop guys/armourers had misunderstood how the semi automatic rifle function (SVT-40 IIRC) or hadn't bothered fitting a BFA to it.

But that's about it. Overall, it was a very gritty portrayal of the Winter war, very high quality!

One of several great finnish movies about the Winter War.

Others are:
The Unknown Soldier (Tuntematon sotilas) (two versions, one from 1955 and one from 1985, both are great)
Ambush ( Rukajrven tie)

Yes, it's great! I rented it on 2 VHS tapes when I saw it the first time. I sometimes feel that some of the films about the Finnish struggle tend to try and tell too much. This one has kept it together quite well and it's a film, not just a lot of filmed reenactments strung together.

I was never much good at history or geography,I was surprised to see that Karelia remained in Russian hands.

Not that surprising, the finns lost the Winter War, they also lost the Continuation War. Fighting the continuation war lost them the Petsamo region in the north, as well as what they had to cede to the Soviet Union in the armistice after the Winter War.
