I hit up the Mazda MX5 comp at Nurbs GP. This is the car that mystifies me at the Nordschleife.
I did my normal initial setup, which is to shift brake bias to the rear a few clicks and drop pressure to 90, then hit the track. It's an easy car to drive, but not necessarily an easy car to drive fast. Easy to control, but I found the balance was a little too much understeer, especially in the slowest corners. A little bit in Ford and a lot in Dunlop. So I came back in to tweak it. There isn't much you can do with the undercarriage on this one, but thankfully the front can be adjusted (but not the rear).
I dropped front spring one notch (there are only three clicks across the range) and headed back out. Balance was now superb, the car drove itself in to the corners and I could pick the throttle up much earlier. Clearly a faster setup, and all that was done was one click of front spring. But it was also harder to drive, more on the edge.
Came back in and returned front spring to default and dropped front ARB one click and hit the track. Not quite so exquisitely balanced, but this also reduces entry understeer and was more sure footed. In the end I set my fastest lap with option 2, but both were good and it was an interesting case study in a way. Pretty happy with the lap overall, and I have a reasonable gap to the leader, unlike at the Ring
I also hit TC Cup at Suzuka, but turned in a middling time if I'm honest. Love this track. Drove the Opel Astra which proved so good in the previous competition.
I drove the X-22 at Imola in practice to avoid staining my rating until I knew what I had. Man I struggle in this one. It felt a lot better than a week ago at Shanghai, but I am slow. Clocked a 26, but that's eight seconds off the leader and I need to see if I can work it out.
No, now go away or I shall taunt you a second time!
I hit the Mazda DPi at Laguna Seca yesterday for another go at it. Found some time, but it's a fixed setup event and I don't feel like I am getting the most out of it. I moved the view point way forward to try to see around the pillar lol, but that doesn't really work. Tried the Porsche again too but failed to improve. In the past couple of days I also hit the X22 at Imola and was turning some solid laps, but still several seconds off the fastest times on the board. It's a difficult car to drive, fast. I struggle in the slow speed. Need some air flowing under the car I guess to have the downforce.

From my recent experience with the X22 Is that It takes forever to accelerate In the first 2 gears. Been wanting to jump Into It again, will do soon. Wednesday they are releasing the BMW pack, will see how that goes and If It´s worth It.

Yeah I feel that too, very difficult to accelerate from very low speed and all of a sudden it kicks in and round she goes. But you lose gobs of time waiting for the engine to spool up.

Thanks Derek! Yeah, rFactor 2 has some great cars Indeed. Today I tried the URD Bayro Hybrid M V8 (payware) at Spa. Best lap: 2:13.148. Didn't quite get the fine tuning of the AI for the race, which Is something difficult to get right In rF2. Despite the fact that I did all three sessions for the AI to get right/learn (practise, quali, and race). Anyhow, fun and happy with the result.
I wanted to try Nords again In R3R, but the servers were down for maintenance today, so I did this Instead.
Cheers

A fine combination, that. I like Portimao. I tend to like most tracks with elevation change, hills and dips, and whoop dee doos.
You're a pioneer with this one. Inspired by your post I logged in and picked up the new car pack and gave this one a go. That's a pretty good race car, I like the balance. Sounds great too.
I see they made some changes to the Formula Junior and I'll give that a go and see if I can feel any difference, or turn better (or worse) laps. Changes to anti dive and anti squat it says in the changelog, but I don't know what that means exactly. Is it an AI thing, or changes to how the car behaves?

I tried it (the BMW) on the Glen last night and I really like it. I don't usually use it in other games, but I think I will in RRE.

Hey Derek!
Don´t know what they mean by that either, could be a online thing only, who knows. So you picked up the pack too, nice! Maybe the GTE Is the least one that I like so far out of the three. The M2 Is a lot of fun, nice car but It suffers from the bounciness that the newer cars tend to have. Never driven any of these new GT cars In real life, but I would expect them to have better suspension? Or at least better default adjusted suspension, the 992 has the same feeling of which you would think that a 260,000€ car would not be bouncing on tracks like that. The GTE on the other hand doesn't suffer from that, maybe because It´s a heavier car, don´t know but I just find that an Interesting topic, or even Issue If so (how the default setups are set). The GTE also suffers from some first gears acceleration, It takes a while to pick up speed. It´s very noticeable on the Torre Vip (Portimao) corner were you really have to slow down to point the car right for a good exit.
So I don´t know If this acceleration Issue Is due to how cars are default setup tuned or what, but as we talked about before, It´s also present and very noticeable In the X22. I also find that all three cars have to much grip from starters, but then I am more a costumed to rFactor 2´s and LMU tier model. Personally I find the GT4 the most fun out of the pack so far, It´s the most "lively" car of all three, at least for me. All three cars look real nice too, Inside and out which Is great as some of the older cars In R3R do seem from a time when the team didn´t put that much of an effort as now (or whatever) and make them look outdated, specially Inside. Overall I find the pack great and all three cars are fun to drive/race on, and I really look forward to racing them In future R3R competitions, online races and events. The M2 Cup Is like a couple of steps above the Mazda MX-5 so that´s going to be Interesting to see In the beginner online races. The pack Is well priced In my opinion, and worth It. Good cars to have In one´s stadium size garage at this pace!
Cheers!
PS.: Posted this earlier but didn´t go through. Lucky I did copy before It timed out!

Anti-squat and anti-dive are suspension tricks to manage the weight transfer and limit the amount of sqatting on the rear suspension during accelleration and the amount of dive of the nose during braking. There’s a more exhaustive explanation Here
I suspect the changes referred to are in relation to the player car.
In other business, I see there’s a challenge on for fastest lap at Pau. I’ll be putting my time in, in the Crosslé, weather permitting (sunshine and clear skies demand outdoors activities!)

Just seen you´re track time at Portimao with the BMW GTE Derek, nice one! I see (grayed out) some upcoming (or underway) ranked events with the three new BMW´s too. Thanks Jens for the Info, been decades since I went to the gym
Taking a break today, will be doing some Kung Fu In The Matchless Kung Fu. It´s sort of like going to the gym haha!
Cheers!

Thanks. I bought Pau and gave it a go, needing a couple stints to learn the track. Drove the Crossle, and Jens' lap was a hard target. Car is a little tail happy and I need to dial it in a bit. I wish I could adjust gearing, as first is too tall.
I'll give the other Beemers from the new pack a go soon.
