Yes. the smaller models like lasers, Hobie cats, 470s, will capsize readily even in moderate wind if handled wrong. . I’m Not sure about the bigger models like the Bavaria (36 ) and larger (Stentec (70), Their hull design spills wind and strongly resist capsize. Ill test sometime

Sure its older, but the graphics are crisp, clean, and quite nice on a GeForce GTX 1660 6GB. Landscape could be updated, but the boats themselves and the water ocean , currents, waves, wind etc are well done, dYou can change environment and weather variables. There used to be a online racing community. I find it relaxing to just putter around ocassionly and beat my own course times.
Thanks Vox for you´re reply. That´s good to know, even If It´s just the smaller models. I was checking out VS NG yesterday after a long time of not playing, and yes, the smaller Bavaria 40 for example does capsize, and the bigger sail boats too. It´s not as detailed rigging as other sims but jib, spinnaker and main sails can be moved manually, and also raised and lowered. So In the end you do need to tweak you´re sails position If you want to gain speed, or move at all. The VS NG Engine Is not new either, It could be the same engine from Papini´s earlier sim "Vehicle Simulator" which received a lot more attention then Virtual Sailor Nex Gen, but It Is old too.
I am not sure about Vehicle Simulator, but the engine on VS NG can be very demanding on you´re PC depending how you have It set-up, It´s still a very good engine (which Papini did himself), but demanding (taxing) and a bit old In the graphics department. So having a sim like Sail Simulator 5 with a old but solid engine that Is not taxing, and delivers what you want from It (sailing) Is a big plus, I am glad to hear/read that form someone who uses It. Most are used to eyecandy, and storylines etc. In any game/sim they buy, but not everybody Is Interested In all that, or has a PC to run It. So It´s good to know that there are games/sims like SS5, Sea Dogs, or Age of Sail (1-2) that can run on most PC´s.
As you, I tend to relax with a sim like this, the same happens with my train sims, or digital wargames, they are for the most part relaxing and tend to disconnect you from this evermore crazy world we live In.
Getting ready to set sail on my Athena...
I am thinking of Sail Simulator 5 too, will see
Thanks Vox.
PS, I am running all this on my old PC, which Is a 3rd. gen i5 with a GTX 1060 (6GB), and 8GB of ram.
Ahoy and fair winds!

Nice pic. Sailing the waters of the South Pacific on PC would be an attractive feature of SailAway , especially today as the temps plummet and blowing snow outside. But then again RL snowboarding is a blast too.

Yes It Is! Glad you liked the pic too!
Just a reminder to all, there will be a free version of Caribbean Legend, so you can all get you´re sea legs ready (Feb. 13th)...
Re: Age of Sail II: Privateers Bounty. As I recall PB has all the data from the previous versions of AOS. I think there’s like over a 1000 ships with data, and well over 100 single scenarios. However many need to be redone in the PB editor. The editor is a bit quirky but makes an ideal tool for AOS RTS sandbox.

Yes, I red that all missions of AoS II can be ported to AoS II PB. IIRC you just had to edit the waypoints on the editor, of something like that. Can´t find where I red that, sorry!
Recently I added dgVoodoo V2.81.26 to my AoS II PB to smooth out the graphics a bit, and yes It runs smoother and looks better now. It still ran out of the box with the patch, but now It´s just better.
Runs good for me on this: Win7 64bit Home, i3-6320 3.9 GHz, ASRock Z270 MB, DDR4 16GB, Samsung 2x SSDs, GeForce GTX 1660 6GB But then again, good SP gameplay rather than graphics is what I look for.

Nice "historical" video of the last of a great era at sea...
Who knows, with the fossil fuel shortage and how the eco system Is doing, we might see the return of this era! Or we might see the future as In Water World! At my age I doubt I will, but future and upcoming youth might and they better "brace for Impact"!

Sailwind Is a proper sailing simulator set In a openworld sandbox survival / trading theme. It´s In EA and gets regular updates. A very chill game to relax on after a hard days work.
It does look like a newer version of Sea Dogs In EA, which to me Isn´t a bad thing.

I had to refund this...
- Runs like crap on my old PC which does meet the minimum and some of the recommended requirements. Hard crash twice In combat, never got past the tuto due to that (lag, stutters). - Price dropped twice since release (three days). From first hours at 25€, then 19,50€ which Is what I paid, and now It´s at 13,49€! How the f*** can they be so stupid?
Anyway, hard pass and refund!
I rather play Captain Bones, at least It runs butter smooth and It´s well made.
Sorry folks!
