Hi Guys,

long time not seen, but still around.

Today i got aware that EAW got released in 1998.

I wish i would have more time left, to play with and work on it!

Greetings,

Knegel

Hello Ralf, long time no hear...we miss your presence.

BTW for those who do not know, Herr Knegel is the EAW master that created the flight models we all use.

And, I managed to hit him, once, while flying online the rest of the time I made a good target.

Cheers.

Hello Knegs, good to hear from you. Your work on the code is remembered.

EAW 20 years old this year!

I see the CombatSim forum, which is where this community began, started in January 1999. I first posted in May 2000 and did my first mod in September 2000. I started on loadouts.

Bought it as soon as it came out in '98.

Started modding about a year later. First thing I did was make a mod that allowed the bombs and rockets to be fired in two salvos rather than one.

My first post here was to present than mod to the community. The post was pretty long as I described what I'd done. In fact, it was my first post on any forum.

I'll never forget Mr. Jelly's comment. He said "impressive first post".

VBH taught me how to do scripts that would edit the exec depending on which side you were playing. This was an integral part of how my mod worked. I had done the same thing with batch files but his way was much more elegant. ( some of you have no idea what I'm talking about but old DOS'er do).

Eh, BTW, I do up a fair number of FM's myself. If you're flying 1.6 about 1/3 of them are mine and another 1/3 I've fixed due to errors.

Hiya Knegel! So good to see your name again!

I started out as a Red Baron II/3D pilot but I always loved World War 2 sims. My grandfather was a WW2 vet in the 1st Infantry Division and I grew up with him assembling model aircraft. Picked up EAW in July 1999 after nearly being killed in a horrible traffic accident just before the start of my senior year of high school. I believe I posted about EAW over on the Delphi boards to start with, but found my way over to SimHQ in 2003. Been here ever since. So good to have the old sim up and running again!

Cheers guys! Glad the gang is still around!

Bought mine in 99 in a local store, i believe I still have my CD somewhere. Back then I've tried other titles but none impressed me as EAW did so I keep playing it till 7217 error come up. After my mother's dead in 2009 I start searching for fixes to the 7217 error and found that eaw was alive here at SimHQ thanks to all of you guys. Great job. Thank you to all involved.

Cheers

Funnily enough just been in the loft looking for another mouse (input type not furry - though we did have squirrels a few years which ate the remainder of the wedding cake and the board it was on) and I found the two game boxes I had kept.

One was my original EAW purchase! (The other was Realms of the Haunting)

EAW was probably the height of my computer gaming period. It came out at a time when I was still enamored with gaming and flight sims. It also matched the period when I had the most time to play them.

So it will always be a special thing to me.

Greetings to all!
I was just thinking the other day that it was nearly 20 years since I bought EAW, and thought I'd better check in, and say hello to the gang!

I remember it well - in the shop I had a choice between Microsoft's CFS, or EAW. EAW had more flyable aircraft so that's what I took home, only to find that my 150Mhz Pentium with a whopping 16Mb of RAM didn't run it so well! Thus begun the merry-go-round of computer upgrades and flight sim addiction!

The interesting part is that I don't have too many memorable flights in EAW, but have many great memories of the interaction, knowledge, friendship and sense of community provided by the EAW forum. Or should I say, provided by it's members. Without the community, EAW would have just been a game, instead of the fairly big part of my life that it once was. S! to all you guys.

Might be a good time to dust of the CD, dig up some mods and see if I can get it to run on the current rig smile

Chompy

Chompy,

Those of us still working with EAW appreciate what you did for the game.

You might be surprised to see your skins and wing views are still in use today. Some in original form and some modified for other purposes.

If you're feeling daring, D/L the 1.6 package at take a look at what we've done with your work.

Hey Chompy!

Great to see you still posting. We must try to catch up next time I get back to South Australia. I'm still playing a few gigs here in France, and I hope that you are still playing.

Hello Chompy! Good to hear from you!

As the guys have said, loads of your stuff still in use. If you have the time, run up 1.6 and have a look.

@ Old Grognard:

This past weekend, I was a passenger in a Toyota Corolla that had a head-on collision with a very large Chevrolet Silverado 4wd truck. Last thing I saw was the enormous chrome grille of the truck running-over and crushing our car.

Somehow, nobody was injured.

Your Sig Line made me post this.

Ralph,
Good to see you are alive. wink and I only spelled it that way because I remember the post where you corrected me in that you are not puke. Wish you only good Ralf. You are one of the greats that I still aspire too.
