So I apparently live under a rock when it comes to flight sims anymore. My very first flight sim was Jane's F-15 which my dad bought for me when I was probably too young to fully grasp but I spent countless hours on that game and studying the flight manual which I still have. I've had this strong urge to play F-15 again but unfortunately I just can't get it to work. I ended up getting IL-2 1946 which I managed to get somewhat proficient at but I still have the urge for jet based sim. So just the other day I came across Falcon 4.0 on Steam and the reviews kept talking about BMS. I'm completely blown away but how much was added/improved through modding and can't believe I never heard of this.

Your thread has been a really fun read and pushed me over the edge to get this game and mod. I feel a little overwhelmed by everything that needs to be learned but also excited that I finally found a game that may bring back some of those nostalgia moments I have from Jane's F-15.

I hope you're able to resolve your PC issues and get back to flying and providing some fun reading.

I bet it's the RAM.

Now that's a great first post! Welcome to SimHQ Sioro and thanks for wishing me well. I hope it helps lol. You should give BMS a go for sure. It takes a lot of time. A guy needs to really be in to it to do well and make progress. It's not the sort of thing you can do casually in my opinion. Or it would take forever. I just attempted to get a buddy in to it but he declined based on the time investment factor. Too bad because he's a very intelligent guy and a true simmer. He just didn't want to put in, or didn't have, the time it takes to get proficient. But if you go all in, it's so worth it.

If it were the RAM I'd expect it still to power up right? Fans would spin at least. At this point I suspect mobo (most likely), CPU (unlikely) or a USB short sort of issue. See my thread in Hardware for more info.

Well, like Allen said, try just 1 stick of RAM, then the other stick...

I wish I still had that to try. Alas, no.

Yeah, I did all of that. Stripped it down and started connecting one at a time. 24-pin connector was first (CPU not removed) Blinking lights. So I'm dead right from the start. Gotta be the mobo now that I've eliminated the PSU. I also have an ASUS Z-170 based board Ice. Where is the switch to get the codes?

I didn't intend for this thread to turn into a tech support thread, but what are ya gonna do?

My board is a Gigabyte GA-Z170X Gaming 7 board. What I'm referring to is at 6:58.

Thanks for the video, my board isn't as tricked-out as yours. Just waiting for the call tag and it's going back. Hopefully I'll be back in the air in about a week. This whole thing has put the kibosh on my F4 progression. I had been rolling along quite nicely and I want to start getting some MP campaign time in. Or just a few orientation flights with someone. I miss flying Falcon online and this has really set me back. I had planned on being halfway through a campaign by now.

This is the Falcon Gods' way of telling you to slow down.

Well then the gods have forsaken me! Even if that were true, I don't know that I needed to slow down this much smile

Schnidrman is going to move on to another sim before he and I get a chance to actually fly. Well, I think brighter days are ahead. Fair skies and tailwinds.

Oh those horrible Falcon Gods!
They usually use SA-6's on me when they are in a bad mood.
Quite often sadly.

DBond clearly didn't do the Falcon Dance properly, thus incurring Their wrath.... let the lesson be learned, boys and girls...

Yeah, I've been told I'm not much of a dancer.

You'd think I'd have it down by now. It's the flourish at the finish that gets me every time.

I'm not giving up on you mate, just really busy at work, and with the unseasonably warm weather we have had lately, I have been spending a lot of time doing yard work. Hope you are able to get things sorted soon.

I don't think that this is your problem, but I'll throw it out there just in case. Try starting up the PC with the Cougar dis-connected. If the boot order got screwed, it might be trying to boot the cougar before windows. With my computer, it locks up on the mobo screen when this happens and I have to unplug the cougar to boot windows. From what I understand, you have a black screen, so probably not the same problem. You may have even tried this already, but that's my contribution FWIW.

I'm very much enjoying this thread too, hope you get your PC fixed soon.

Sioro, A quick way that helped me to get up to speed quicker is this 1 Hour Tutorial

Krause also has a heap of BMS videos on his channel that helps.

Thanks Jake and welcome to SimHQ!

On the subject of training videos, I have found these really helpful in the odyssey, thanks to Supanova

Thanks Schnidrman, I have tried with everything unplugged. It won't power up, not just that it won't boot or post. I've RMA'd the mobo so hopefully I'll be back flying hops within a week or so.

Thanks Dbond,

I've seen some of Supanova's videos, they are very well done I must say and probably more up to date then some of the other vids out there as he is fairly new on the scene, he's also creating many great videos for DCS too.

Dbond, Did you use the excel "BMS Key File" to set up the joystick DX buttons on the controls. Man that excel file was doing my head in for quite a while, I use CH gear and wanted to program them using the DX keys to test it out.

It's all good once you get your head around it, but at the start, it's definitely the most advanced excel spreadsheet I've seen by a lonnnng way.

\Falcon BMS 4.33 U1 \ Docs \ Key Files & Input \ BMS Key File Editor.xls

I only use the Excel spreadsheet to check for blank spaces in my .key file where I can put stuff in; I still edit the .key file manually using Notepad++
