Without getting political or otherwise rant filled, I have to come up with a way to defeat the High Definition Copy Protection (HDCP) protocols for my HDTV's HDMI ports.
We took a lightning strike a few years back and it sort of scrambled the board to the TV. It works fine with a few exceptions:
1) A cable has to be in the HDMI 5 port or it won't power on. Hey, don't ask me, it's just the way it is, and it was only through extreme Random Monkey troubleshooting that I found this out.
2) Running an HDMI cable through a component cable converter works. But the component cable inputs don't use HDCP protocols, because they're not HDMI. So the device (such as my Roku or Blu-Ray player) give a thumbs up on the check and play well.
3) HDMI cables in other ports are recognized and give a picture, but then fail the HDCP check and refuse to work past it.
4) My TV is sufficiently old to where there is no firmware update to download and install to hopefully bring it back to factory fresh software.
So my plan, now that both my component cable slots are filled and I want to connect a third device, is to find a way to work around the HDCP. I'm thinking maybe I can use a HDMI to component cable converter and then a component cable to HDMI converter to strip out the ask-and-answer for HDCP.
This is sort of convoluted, and I was wondering if any of our guru's out there had a better solution.
The opinions of this poster are largely based on facts and portray a possible version of the actual events. More dumb stuff at http://www.darts-page.comFrom Laser: "The forum is the place where combat (real time) flight simulator fans come to play turn based strategy combat."

Not ranting. But I don't think discussing ways of defeating copy protection, however well intentioned, have ever been tolerated here. (except that insidious Securom crap from a few years back )

Well, like that article mentions, some older HDTV's predate HDCP and it causes the same TYPE of issue that old Starforce did on modern OS's. It can't be patched up to work!
