If you haven't watched this yet and you enjoy stuff like "Blade Runner", "Battlestar Galactica" and "The Matrix", I highly recommend this show to you. The season 1 finale was just last night so you can even binge watch the entire thing now if that is how you roll. smile

The finale was amazing and long! It's 1.5 hours but that time goes by so fast.

Don't read the thread in the SF forum until you've watched it all, though, as it's chock full o'spoilers.

I'm glad to see that you're enjoying it Archie. The show was a slow burn for the first few episodes but I'd say that by episode 7 things started to really pick up.

Not a fan of television shows or movies that I have to watch more than once just to make sense of what was going on. Watched 3 episodes and just couldn't be bothered to watch any more.

Definitely slow to get going, but it did eventually pay off.
I like how the big reveals weren't completely out of left field and could be figured out watching the show. It adds validity to the story IMO, it isn't just shooting from the hip.

No, but I read a write up in Time about the show and they nailed it, saying much the same things I've said but with more panache. smile
The show doesn't leave any unanswered questions, they had a definite plan and direction, but they sometimes made much ado about banality.

Lost suffered from this, where they would tease and build up to something and the final explanation years later did answer the question but it was unsatisfying. You sit there and say "Oh, that's all it was?" Imagine if the end of Seven had inside the box just a picture of Kevin Spacey flipping them the bird.

They did a lot of meandering before they got to the point. I remember a lot of people, both here and elsewhere, who blasted Peter Jackson for doing the same thing with the Hobbit films. smile

If the Westworld film was the Hobbit novel, then Westworld the show is the Hobbit films. A lot of stuff that wasn't in the original, raising new questions, taking a deeper look, but in the end you're forced to ask "did you need to take so long to do it?"

When you have a series like Star Trek where every episode is self-contained, and some are better and some are weaker, having a few weak ones up front as the writers and cast find their footing is ok.
When you have a single story spread out over a mere 10 episodes, you can't spend more than half that time setting it up. I agree the end of the season paid off the investment made earlier, but they can NOT repeat this next time. We can't have another month plus of setup anymore.

Like Bond said, they had their 6. Now they need a full season of moving the characters and plot forward each hour. No more "a day in the life" episodes to establish the backstory of a character...that turns out to be something you could've told in 10 minutes.

Make sure you watch the credits to the end.

HBO viewers must be a unique species though because even with that slow burn progression over the first few episodes the ratings have not only been good but they have actually increased a bit. This show would have been cancelled on any other cable network IMHO.

I actually liked the slow approach. That was clever storytelling, because they were easing (and misleading) the audience into the world, and slowly began to peel off each layer to get to the core of the story. That way the writers could build up tension without being brash about it.

2018 seems so #%&*$# far away right now.. Aggggg, The only other show I'm eagerly waiting for is "The Expanse". That will have to fill the void until 2018. When will that be out?

According to the SyFy website, it will be back in January.

Thanks PM, now I wouldn't have a problem if they waited until around July for it to start again. LOL

I'm not exactly sure why they edited that bit at the end like they did, instead of having it earlier before the credits.
It wasn't like a Marvel stinger.

BTW--one of the highlights of the finale episode was the delighted smile on the face of Ed Harris. I laughed out loud at that one.
