Wow, I'm not sure those were the answers I was looking for. Did Delores just kill all the board members? How will the park remain open with such an obviously huge liability and Ooh Samurai World!!

I'd love to see them take on East World. Seems like there was a Future World in the original movies somewhere. Or maybe I'm thinking about something else. I know there was a medieval world.

3 timelines confirmed!
I think Ford is really dead. He agreed with Andrew over time, and in a way, William/MiB about free will and dropping scripts. William was almost giddy when he saw what was coming was just what he'd been wanting. Ford exceeded Andrew since Andrew scripted Dolores to kill him, whereas Ford socially engineered it so she arrived at that conclusion on her own. And they don't need to escape, they just need to take over.

Good finale! I just hope they don't screw it up in S2. I hope we aren't going to get mired down in host politics as they try to find their way.

Even if Ford is really dead I don't think that means we'll never see him again. wink

Who is Andrew?

Do you mean Arnold? smile

I think the issue might be getting Hopkins to come back with his busy schedule. This way if he can't they can leave him out or have him only show in one or two eps as flashbacks or whatever.

Oh, and who's to say that wasn't Shogun World? wink

I got some serious flashbacks to Pris from Blade Runner when "Snake tattoo girl" was going all medieval on that tech's ass.

A great and overall satisfying season finale, which left enough wiggle room so it could have had a good (open) ending in case HBO hadn't renewed it.

It was also satisfying for my ego to have guessed some things right hahaha , and yet the show still managed to surprise - nay, blow my mind - me at every turn. smile

What a refreshing, original way to tell a story, even though the basic premise was taken from a Crichton novel, and the authors borrowed (= drew inspiration from) fragments from Blade Runner, reimagined BSG, or Data from TNG here and there.

I just hope that due to its success HBO execs don't want to artificially drag out the series. I'd rather have only two or three seasons but with a compelling, well-written story than filler and fluff added to create - and then milk - a franchise.

At its core, the show IMO is a critical reflection on the looming digital revolution (and all the problems and distinctions of self-awareness/self-determination and what it means to be a life form: real or artificial). The park is just a prop to tell that story. I hope they don't change that and make the park the story (Shogunworld, Futureworld, and so on); they should refrain from retelling the same story in a different setting.

Excellent post Jayhawk and not just because I agree with everything you said. smile

I will definitely be rewatching this sometime next year. After all, we have a long wait for season 2. Lol.

Sorry, Arnold. I'm also watching Agents of SHIELD with my wife. Andrew is a character on there. LOL

I think you're right, it's less a copy of previous shows/movies (other than West World, obviously) and more the topic of the times. Kind of like how nuclear war was a prevalent topic for years. Terminator bridged the times from getting nuked to evil AI. That future was truly BLEAK. LOL

IMHO, the best scifi is the bleak/dark/dystopian kind. smile

Stuff like E.T. and Back to the Future is for kids!

Ok, I joke but you get what I mean.

It can be, but the landscape is littered with dark SF that had nothing else going for it.

The reason Star Trek did so well in the first place was because it was different. That difference being in the hopeful note it sounded, as opposed to most of the others which were basically your War of the Worlds and Day the Earth Stood Still and evil robots and mad scientist experiments and the like.

In short, being bleak or hopeful is not only just one element but it's also usually a rather minor one. It ranks maybe one step above who the DP was.

I think the showrunners left the fate of Ford wide open, should Mr. Hopkins find the time to film another season.

Anyone else notice there was a new host in the making at Ford's "private" laboratory during the scene with Bernard and Theresa? Maybe Ford was making a host version of himself to send to that black tie event to get shot by Dolores? It would lessen the impact of that powerful scene, but OTOH you could keep Anthony Hopkins. wink

At least that could be the narrative foot in the door for having the character come back.

Knew it would end up a "Red Wedding". HBOs newest gimmick.

I just hope that the momentum for the show's popularity isn't killed by the fact that season 2 won't be airing until 2018.

I will probably do the same, most likely close to the start of the next season.

HBO should release a couple of webisodes sometime next year to keep the audience engaged.

They didn't for GoT, and this show had higher ratings than GoT's first year, so I doubt they will.

Instead, right before the GoT season finale next year they'll bring this up again with teaser footage/trailers.

Just looked it up and season 7 of GOT is slated for sometime in "mid 2017".

I guess I shouldn't have binge-watched GOT THAT quickly. smile

I just got S6 on BD, but I'm in no rush to start it. Still, I'll probably start it before the end of the month because I liked it so much.

And the score for the finale was badass. Best score to a single episode of TV in history, blew away Amok Time and Doomsday Machine from TOS and even the S3 finale of BSG.

Ramin did a world-class job on that one, better than most of his film scores IMO.
