Alright so I finally got around to converting my ancient 2ghz core duo laptop into a FreeBSD 10.2 server.

It only has 2gb of ram and the OS is taking up about half of that just running even with x server turned off.

I am only planning to use it on my local network, it is not accessible from the internet, but it can access the internet for downloading etc.

Anyway, so far I have done the following to it:

Apache
PHP5.5
MySQL
Minecraft Server
x11vnc / gnome
Firefox / Office / Usual desktoppy stuff just in case it's ever needed
SSH so it can be accessed from the terminal from my mobile devices.

That's about it I think. What kind of cool ideas / toys / servers can I run with this box?
Note: I've already got a media server on my windows box so I don't need that.

Browse Distrowatch some of the Linux, BSD distros releases you might get some ideas. Also browse the ports collection or http://daemonforums.org/
I currently use Debian based Linux and Windex.. lol) but years ago I learned a little freebsd, vmware. VMware thats a good place to look also there are tons of server or community built vm.s should give ideas.
