Ever wanted to get into the Realistic Navigation features of IL2 instead of using the 'magic map'?

Here's an outstanding discussion of YE-ZB 'Hayrake' radio navigation for finding the carrier out in the big ocean.

Using radio nav rather than a map that magically shows you where the carrier is adds a much deeper immersion factor to the sim, and it's not too hard once you figure out how it works.

Agreed, this is a great system and makes finding home plate almost a no-brainer even in poor weather. More people ought to try realistic navigation options in IL-2 - it really helps with immersion as Rhino says.

After reading the tutorial I finally flew for the first time using the Beacon. Works really well once you get into range of it.
