LOL..pays to get up early. At 7AM - in one hour I grabbed all of the full size DCS World files, then a bit after 8AM when the auto-updater went live I updated in about 50 minutes. Just downloaded the UH-1 module right now from the published FTP in about 20 minutes..

My download has been stuck at 881.9MB for nearly the past hour. I'm afraid to restart it. frown

After nearly two hours of standing still at 881.9MB, I decided to cancel the download and start it again. Now it's just stuck "Checking for updates". Guess ED's servers have buckled under the load. I suppose that's what happens when you release a patch and a highly anticipated module at the same time. dizzy

EDIT: A few minutes later the auto-updater picked up from where it left off. A nice feature that I wasn't aware of; good to know!

It's a question of cost rather than a solution. Hosting the update files on any decent content system (AWS, Azure, Rackspace) with a DNS change just for the anticipated surge would easily solve this, but costs ED money, i.e. say about $3000 for 100,000 customer 1 GB updates. They just count on people to keep trying, but I guess will lose some 'release day' buyers who lose interest (although for a rare/specialized module like a Huey I doubt this is much of the case..)

I have both the DCS site downloading it, and the torrent. DCS is downloading at about 30 to 40 kb/s. Torrent is going at 950 and says that I'll have it in 2 hours. I think the torrent is going to win.
Trouble is, of course, is that the torrent is a complete reinstall of DCS World. Will that mean that I will have to reinstall the A-10 and P-51, too?

You will have to re-DL every module you have, yes. So all the DCS World files, and A-10 and P-51 if those are the only 2 you have.

I have A-10, Ka-50, FC3, and CA, so it's not something I want to do.

Anyway, a mere 7 hrs later my DL is done.

I wonder how 777 hosts its stuff? They're not as fast as the torrents, but even on new update day they seem to suffer less choking.

But as I said, 777's transfers are much faster. Not "worlds" faster, but I know it would take no more than a couple of hours vs the 7 it took me yesterday. They are also in Russia.
