The Mn Twins have an all new stadium this year. Should be a good one. And with no snow to play in, in April. It's actually warm up there. What's with that? Although with the Sox coming in, maybe winter will kick back up. Can't say I'll miss the metrodome--a house of horrors second only to Tropicana field. I've been pretty apathetic and just finally broke down and ordered the MLB package. I'm just not that excited about some of the Red Sox' offseason acquistions (re: Scutaro and Mike Cameron) although Lackey should be solid. On paper they should have decent pitching, but I am still wary of the offense. I figure Beckett will mirror last season's not-so spectacular performance, Wakefield will breakdown after the all-star break, and million dollar man from Japan will continue throwing 100 pitches over four innings. It's way early, but this team already reminds me of last year. My prediction is that the Mets will go to the World Series. Why? because that's my son's instructional league team. Whatever cap he wears, that team wins. Last year he was on the Yankees. This year he's on the Mets. I expect next year, it will either be the Cubs, or to continue the "torment dad" team trend--the Rays.

No Joy in Houston (Mudville)!
The LAstros are off to a horrible start (0-6).
Lastros (Houston Astros baseball team unofficial nickname)
The Houston Astros baseball team has been no stranger to last place. The team was known as the Houston Colt .45s in 1962 (8th place), 1963 (9th place), and 1964 (9th place). The Houston Astros were no better in 1965 (9th place), 1966 (8th place), 1967 (9th place), and 1968 (10th place).
The nickname Lastros dates from at least 1975, when local sportswriters came up with it and used it regularly. Unfortunately, the nickname Lastros is still sometimes used.

"LAstros". Good one. What else can I say except that it's a VERY long season and I've been a die hard Red Sox fan since 1979 so I am not going to fret and worry in earnest until after the All Star Break. By then I'll know if the Sox have what it takes or not to go all the way and win the World Series again. As long as the Yankees dont win, I'm happy.

I don't believe anyone can beat me in a game of fan of loser teams. I've gone to 60 - 80 (I never made all 81!) Royals games a year for decades now (with the exception of the three years I was in St. Louis (1993 - 1996) and my early childhood in which I was also in St. Louis (1971-1983). Waterboarding shmaterboarding. Try watching Royals baseball since Ewing Kauffman died. The Royals have definitely had a long rough time. They won the WS in 1985 but since then it seems like their seasons have ranged from bad to mediocre.

I know its early in the season but I'm extremely disappointed in my Red Sox. Going 11-11 in the first 22 games is NOT what I was expecting.
I see the Orioles have the worst record in baseball right now.

Oh, poor Panzer. I'm so sorry for you. NOT!!!!!!
The mere fact that Zack Greinke hasn't been indicted for the brutal murder of the entire Royals bullpen and 2/3 of the lineup unwilling to take a walk to save their lives is a miracle.
The fact that I've sat through these disasters and haven't stormed the field in a murderous rage is similarly a miracle.
I am sure we'll do well against the Rays this weekend. Oh, wait, they're the best team in baseball. Maybe not. The Royals headed into Tampa is like sending a Pee Wee football team into Soldier Field to play the '85 Bears.

Speaking of Rays. My son's team is called the Yelm Rays. 5-2 so far this year. Danny had his best game yesterday, 2-3 with two hard line drives, one a single into right center field right over the second baseman's head and a second a real line shot over the left fielder's head. If the grass hadn't been wet he would have taken three bags. He also made a very nice play on a ball in left center field which ended a potential ralley by the opposing team. He ended up pitching the final inning, going 1-2-3 on eight pitches to easily seal the win for his team. What is cool is that this is a 14U team and he is only 12 right now. He is I think the youngest kid on the team. I was afraid that he would have problems 'playing up' but he seems to be doing well. Yep, I'm braggin.

That's awesome, Tom. I took my son to the batting cages today for fun (he plays but is much younger than yours...9). His batting stance is actually very similar to your boy's! He is stroking them all over the place making pop proud. Then, I get in there and put it on the highest speed (it was 70 or 75mph) and did one round. 7 swings and misses. 2 tips. 1 tapper which would have probably been fielded by the catcher or pitcher! The boy says "well, dad, even though you can't hit very good, you did teach me to hit good." That was easily the highlight of my day today!

Oh, and Zack is now what, 0-3 with a 2.26 ERA or something? Ugggh.
