Or not so update...

Quote:
I’m afraid that there is not much to report since my previous one. The Ka-50 is just about done at this point and we’re mostly focused on testing and bug-fixing its systems. The big item in work in the mission editor (about 80% complete, the campaign builder interface, new pilot log book, and other various GUI screens. Once we get a testable mission editor, I’ll post a little overview of functionality.

About as earth shaking as the big "announcement" back in July.

About the only thing it's really telling us is that they're working on it and it's not on hold again like in the past.

Unfortunately I reached a point where I lost my enthusiasm for it - when it is out it is out, I'll buy it if it adds a lot to LO-FC and the ME is backwards compatible, if it isn't I'll skip it.

I've pretty much lost enthusiasm for any game that's more than a month or two from release. I'll worry about them when they're closer. For now, I concentrate on the ones I have or that will be in the stores in a month or so.

Wouldn't imagine it's gonna be mission compatible. I don't remember any ED sim being mission compatible even between patches, let alone versions.

However the hints at a new scripting engine, has perked up my interest..... We'll just have to wait and see

In Black Shark, what are the flyables... And... Is the helicopter going to be the only thing with the AFM?

Flyables = Ka-50

That's it.

The big question is if this is going to be integrating with LOMAC/FC anymore or not. If yes, you'll also have all those planes to fly. If not...

Man its the only "NEW" helo sim we will get....ever. Just for that alone I am going to have to buy it.

Longbow has gotten to the point where its pretty much impossible to fly on a fast computer. Keeping an old box around is not an option for me.

EECH with mods will continue to go strong...but it will never become a true study sim of one helo.

EECH2...LOLOLOL.

So this is it.

On the up side, its nice to hear that their's such a thing as a "campaign builder" in the works. Also, I'm glad to hear the worthless pilot logbook is being re-worked. The current one in Lockon is just stupid and pointless.

Makes you long for the 90s again, when graphics and modeling may have been crude, but the interface and such were years ahead.

Yeah, but then it's really going to piss me off when they release LOBS as standalone and I can't use all the new features with the fast movers...I mean piss me off so bad I'll have to not buy LOBS and go out and start a fight.

Ugggghhh...I didn't think about that one. I envisioned a Su-33 campaign I've been thinking of taking advantage of the moving airstrip the Kuznetsov provides. If all I can make is Ka-50 stuff with the new editor, then yes, that will piss me off as well.

Lets see, where are my torches and pitchforks...they're here somewhere...

I've heard no comments about losing the fast movers from the beta-testers. There have be no re-workings of them is what I've heard. What has been discussed is the probability that FC missions would no longer be compatible - losing a lot of FC Missions and campaigns.

Another reason not to bother with it.

We've invested so much effort in building a library of missions & campaigns not to ditch them so we can (learn to) fly the Ka-50 and if there are no improvements for the other flyables it is even worst.

I've got tremendous respect for the work that went into the Ka-50 (after all I was a Beta tester and I know how good it is) but I also know the amazing amount of work that goes into making add-ons for 1.1.

if ED does not know that, we will simply continue with 1.1 - and there are some add-ons which will enhance a lot the experience of flying the 1.1 as to make it almost a new sim.

Well that would be why it will be better to have Blackshark as a stand alone install.

You keep your install of FC the way it is and keep playing the campaigns you have.

But you get Black Shark with all the flyables from FC with a more powerful mission editor. Then you can create new ones with it.

That would be easier to do than them having it be an install on top of FC and trying to find ways to make all the user made campaigns still work with new ME.

But if the Blackshark is a standalone, it has to come with all the old flyable planes. Can't be a stand alone with only the helo as flyable.

Well the rumor is that is exactly what MIGHT happen.

And this is my big gripe ...why all the blasted secrecy? You can get more info out of the CIA with a FOIA request than you get from ED about this blasted sim. Is this thing under development for the sim community, or the KGB? I have never seen a company so bound and determined not only to not listen to what thier customers want, but to go out of thier way to alienate them completely. Amazing, truely amazing.

One of the costs of being a customer of one of the only games in town...you take what you're given and you frakkin like it or else! I may just choose not to take it this go around depending on what actually happens.

No developer can be that stupid.

At the least, I would expect something like EECH. You install Black shark as a stand alone game with only the helo as flyable. But it can detect if you have LOMAC or LOMAC FC installed and unlock those flyables accordingly. Similar to how EECH detects EEAH.
