Are you using a new map or an old map exe?

This is with a new map exe

[Linked Image]

You can see the RAF home base from which I took off.
Following the green line from that base shows my current position (I have a blue icon)
I am about to contact a number of enemy planes (with red icons)

This is the same mission but with an old map exe:

[Linked Image]
The new map screen is built from the 640x320 tile-set used in the game.
If you compare the old map screen with the new map screen you will see that it has a whole lot of areas that are not in the game - Wales, North and S-W England, Central France
It is a waste of space because everything has to be compacted more, and the aircraft icons are much closer.
Because of this it is more difficult to judge directions, especially as the map is tilted.
With the new map a vertical line tuns N-S, and it is much easier to estimate bearings.

Different theatres have different maps

As usual not enough information for me to replicate what you have found
What is the name of the 160 folder that you were using? I have about 10 of them.
What theatre had you selected?

Simple smile

The ETO career files need to have the correct planeset and theatre.
You must use the Default European Theatre and the European EAW default plane-set.
Because other screens are used I recommend that you use an old map exe for this career wink

From your picture it looks as though you had a "Little BoB" theatre loaded, which is experimental using a reduced and shifted 148x95 tilemap covering just the main BoB areas.
It was made for online play and not a career.
The normal tile-map is 640x320

Your first picture is wrong. The others look OK.
Did you start a career? I did in the same folder as yours using an old map exe as advised:

First mission briefing:

Map-check at take-off:

Contact:

Map-check at contact:

That is what is supposed to happen.

Is there a "targmap.pic" or a "targmap1.pic" file in your root folder?

I don't want to derail the conversation but hopefully ask a question that will be helpful to all.

I see he has a "New Map" Exe selected. My understanding from past conversations and posts is that this is the "zoomed in" version. If that is correct, he should be able to move around his zoomed in map and actually see if it is this full version of Europe, right? I don't know how it affects career saves but if he selected the "old map" exe, would he then match what you see? Or have I misunderstood some of the differences between these two types of map exes.

He was advised to use an old map exe. A briefing map screen is used in careers of which there is no "new-map" version.

Gotchya. I should have re-read a bit higher. I just saw new map was still selected in his screenshots. I started a BoB career myself a month or so ago and now I'm curious which exe I have selected. I'll have to check later along with my other settings.
