Sometimes I try things to see if I can do them. This is one of those cases, and I wondered if I could get a railway tunnel effect to work.

It is a matter of turning off the track rendering, and the display of the vehicles.
Using a new version of LittleBoB I set the tunnel height to 200 feet

The engine is about to enter the tunnel:

Here it has emerged a little later on:

I succeeded but it remains a novelty, because to make it realistic I would need somehow to get the exe to generate a tunnel graphic at the entrance and the exit smile

Just to save some time to get the screenies I made the train run at 140 mph, and sent the rest of the squad back to home base so that they did not attack it LOL

A tunnel graphic could be fashioned from the stone arc bridge center section without too much effort.

It could then be placed on the track right where it disappears and reappears using the target editor.

It would take some trial and error to get it placed correctly but very doable. Don't forget, using the editor I was able to place railroad crossing, train station, rail siding and static rail car TMOD's in exactly the right spot in relation to the RR tracks.using the ETO2015 target set.

The set-up involves a file named "Tunnel.mpf". The default tunnel height is 10000 feet, and I know of no EAW versions that have railways that high, so the tunnel effect would never be generated.
However the theatre I was using has a "Tunnel.mpf" file with a value of 200. So if the height of the track or the vehicles is more than 200 feet they are not rendered. This applies to all sections in the EAW_RRD.dat file, so editing in order to place the tunnel graphics would be very time consuming frown

If you lads start building tunnels now, we're going to need nukes in order to blow up these trains!

For the time being Nukes are out. The explosion size runs from 1 to 255. for example, a tent is set for size 1 and an ammo ship is set for size 255.

If you blow up an ammo ship in SPAW or ETO2015 you will see just how big an explosion it is but it ain't nuclear big.

That's not to say Mr. Jelly couldn't change it. (Which would go great with the B-29 I'm presently building, BTW.)

As for the tunnels, if you set the height fairly high you would reduce the number of them you would need but the target editor doesn't display height so something would have to be added to the editor for that purpose.

Thinking out loud here.

If you flag the tracks to not display over a certain height could another flag be set in the TTD file to display the tunnel entrance at that same point? It wouldn't be a target but it would be some pretty nice eye candy.

The TTD file just has objects in (x,y) locations from (0,0) to (255,255) on the tile type. It could not be adapted for this purpose.
It is just too hard at this juncture.
