Still playing it. As the American in North Africa, I got beat. The American tanks can't beat the German Panzer III and then IV tanks and Stug anti-tank guns. Also having only so much prestige ($) to buy American air power, I have to pick between having airplanes or having tanks. The Luftwaffe was killing my tanks and troops with their Stukas. The desert terrain limited my unit to move 1-2 square per turn. German had long range guns high up in the mountain that can hit my units from 6 squares away. My guns could only hit them from 3 squares away and the mountain terrain the Germans were dug into limited my gun damage hit point to 1. My B25 and B24 were useless against them too. Drop bombs on them and get 0 damage.

Now playing as the German in 1942, they gave me one experimental unit. What is that thing ? Too weak to take on tanks and other armor. No AA power with it at zero. I think it's a gun but the guns I have right now, towed by troop carrier, have twice the anti-tank and anti-troops power than this thing. So why give me this weak thing if it's a gun?

Superior air power and artillery is how you play the allies.
That looks like an SPG, self propelled artillery. Put it behind your lines to offer support if they get attacked and use it to attack up to 3 hexes away to soften up an enemy. Because it's self propelled you don't have to load and unload it from trucks like other artillery. Just roll, shoot, repeat, profit.

Thanks wormfood.

I think it's this https://tanks-encyclopedia.com/ww2/..._GW_Lorraine_Schlepper-f_SdKfz-135-1.php

Japan didn't have many tanks and armor. Maybe that's another reason they lost all those island battles. https://tanks-encyclopedia.com/ww2/jap/ww2_IJN_Tanks.php

I just beat the French at Sedan.

[Linked Image]

They outnumbered me 3 to 1 in ground forces and also had 30+ bunkers with guns and machine guns.

They also outnumbered me 2 to 1 in fighter and bomber aircraft.

I remember reading about the Battle of France and how French had the largest army in the world at the time and more tanks than the Germans had.

Also how French reconnaissance aircraft saw columns of German tanks, trucks, and other vehicles in a traffic jams 150+ miles long near the French border.

The French had the opportunity to send their Air Force and destroy the Germans and possibly end the war right there but they did nothing.

I went looking and found it.

https://medium.com/lessons-from-history/worst-traffic-jam-of-world-war-ii-d9c04431ebae

There was another similar situation like this:

when the Germans invaded Czechoslovakia and the Sudetenland in 1938, they did it with very limited amount of troops and tanks which at the time was most of their combat units. At the same time Germany's Western borders were undefended.

If the British and France had acted then, they could had destroyed the German army and stop World War 2 before it began.

The British and French were defeated in France in 1940 almost entirely due to the superior and innovative tactics used by the Germans. The German officer corps was also simply better prepared and trained.

As you alluded to, the hardware used by the UK and France was just as good or better than what the Germans had during the French campaign.

Don't forget, the German tactics and leadership had plenty of opportunities to make mistakes and gain valuable experience in Poland and Spain.

As for Panzer General 2, bunkers can't move, just go around them.

The French invaded Germany while Germany was occupied in conquering Poland. The French made a dog's breakfast of it.

There was only 16 squadrons of RAF fighters that used 100 octane during the BoB.
The Fw190A could not fly with the outer cannon removed.
There was no Fw190A-8s flying with the JGs in 1945.

That is poor command and maybe being lazy! Reminds me of Anzio where the American General Lucas had the element of surprise and a clear road to Rome and he didn't take it. I read that if he took it, the war in Italy would had ended. Instead it became a forgotten long war that lasted another year that didn't end until 1945 when Nazi Germany surrendered. Of all the long battles the Allied fought in Europe, Italy was the bloodiest and costliest.

Chalk this one up to total French ineptitude at the highest political and military levels. There's also no doubt that there was a serious case of "cold feet" from their WWI experiences with failed offensives.

Some of those can shoot at you as soon as I move one of my units from 2-3 squares away.

Finally won enough battles to earn new Tanks.

Some of the new tanks I can buy are these. Never heard of them!

Still fighting the Russians. Got a new aircraft. Another German weapon I never heard of. It's experimental so it only gave me one. I can't buy any.

For 2 years now 1943-1944 fighting the Russians, I been using the same BF-109 and BF-110 fighters. Also the same JU-87, JU-88 and HE-111 bombers for the longest time until 2 mission ago, I was given a new BF-110 D fighter bomber.

It was pretty weak against anything including ground troops. Nothing else has been given me during that time. The German seem to not have develop too many new fighters and bombers during the war except toward the end when they were experimenting with jet engines.

I also noticed the Germans had no 4 engine bombers. They seem to prefer 2 engine bombers.

Just curious if you're still playing? I get the bug to fire it up about once a year...started testing some of the new Alderkorps campaigns to see which one I want to try. When I say "new"...I mean the variety of 3rd party campaigns that came out around 2008...lol.

I'm really bummed that Panzercentral went offline. frown

I stopped playing months ago. Can't win. You win one of dozens of battle in a campaign and you get 200 points. You can't buy anything with that to get more tanks, more airplanes, more troops. Not even enough to replace what you had at the beginning of the last battle and lost them.

Got it. When I play...I crank the prestige modifier to "300" to help with this.

The new version is harder than the old one.

Also you don't just find missions under campaign names, there is also a list of creators with different campaign and missions under each one.

I even found one for D-Day and the only thing I have is several landing craft with troops and engineers. No tanks. No aircraft. No ships.

I think there is even one map with Custer getting killed by natives.
