The 50 Greatest Sci-Fi TV Shows Ever

A decent list, but a lot of mistakes."Space: Above and Beyond" rated way too low, as is "Star Trek Voyager". "Babylon 5" also should be a bit higher. "Stargate SG-1" should be number 1, IMO. Definitely not "Dr Who". "Stargate Atlantis" isn't even on the list, nor is "Star Trek Enterprise".

Babylon 5 should be in the top ten. Not sure about Stargate, as I never watched it through serially and entirely. Star Blazers should be up there with Evangelion, though Bebop made me cry(that ending!). The Japanese really GET sci-fi, and have fantastic writers. Not sure why Twin Peaks is on the list???? Surrealism isn't sci-fi, and though an amazing show, is in a different genre. And why isn't TOS tied with Next Generation?

The superhero crap doesn't belong.

I'm surprised Space 1999 was second to last. There's a lot of poppycock on 1999, but they had some interesting premises too, and one of the scariest episodes I've ever seen on public television called "Dragon's Domain." If I saw that as a kid, I probably would have crapped my pants.

I'm glad War of the Worlds from the late 80s/early 90s made the list. That was a neat, short-lived show.

And Doctor Who is awesome. Not sure it belongs at number one though, but definitely on the top ten. Some of the older episodes can be really campy, but they often were based on an interesting premise, and devoid of the social justice crap you see in the most recent ones.

Lots of good stuff on that list, and a few newer series I haven't seen. The Expanse should definitely be higher--has the potential to surpass BSG, depending if they keep the intensity up and don't fall prey to the BSG Season 3 second-half slump.

Glad to see Red Dwarf on the list at number 31

I thought it should be a lot higher but that's just my opinion. It's by far the one I've watched more than any other on the list by a large margin.

I take all of these ranked listings with a grain of salt since they are all purely the opinion of the author but I do find it interesting how Firefly consistently manages to rank very high on these types of lists even though the show only lasted 11 aired episodes. 14 were made in total.

Because Firefly was awesome.

They should have never cancelled it. frown

Indeed.

That said, after having re-watched it recently, I do wonder if if would have been so dearly loved, if it had gone on much longer. I think they front-loaded a lot of the best material and character development.

I looked through the list again and I would add “Caprica” and “Crusade” and remove “Land of The Lost” and “Twin Peaks”.

Agree with Blastman that Twin Peaks is NOT sci-fi. I think the author just wanted to shoehorn the show into the list.

Dr. Who and Star Trek TOS are head and shoulders above all others just due to legacy
