Looks like circa 1984 to me so that commercial most likely came out around Star Trek III.

Yeah you're right. The cast members just looked so young to me compared to how they look now.

Ah, MCI, Sprint, AT&T, all trying to get us to pay them to call long distance even when it didn't cost them much of anything anymore. Just because they wanted to keep milking it.

90's. I remember that one. The long distance wars were really REALLY annoying.
I finally realized there's no one long distance I want to call, so I dropped long distance all together. LOL
You could use a one time prefix if you wanted to call long distance just every now and then and pay per call.
