August announcement

Will there be a July announcement, but announced in August?

About all I can say is at some time they'll have to announce something...

July announcement will be made in August, August will be July announcement posted in August but it will be July, Jolie - Angelina Jolie? I liked the 2nd Tomb Raider movie more than the first one, not bad - I noticed that the Mercs had G-36K, nice weapon, and the para-gliding scene was not bad either - did you know you can get it at ITunes, by the way there is an interesting SF movie Renaissance @Itunes, going to get it, only $12.99, not expensive.

Actually I am interested in finding out if Black Shark is stand-alone or if I'm going to have to hunt down some version of Lock-On in order to play it?

Is this something we know or is it still up in the air?

It was suggested by someone that it was possible as a stand-alone so Eagle Dynamics avoids from dealing with Ubisoft as that relationship is not something that ED wanted any more.

I think it's a complicated situation where there are many complex options - stand-alone BlackShark(BS), BS+FC combined, BS that will only allow the Su-25T if you've bought FC. Plus a possible later patch(either in FC alone or FC+BS option) that does some respectable polishing of the air-to-air stuff(maybe)
Then you've got the protection question - very negative community attitudes towards the current FC Starforce, weighing other options(steam style service, no download - disk only, current SF with its problems, evaluating and testing the other choices out there(Direct2Drive et al usually have caveats))
Then sorting out the publisher in the West(distributed by who?, where does Ubisoft stick its nose in) while trying to please the Russian publisher(more units will be sold in Russia than in the West but at a lower price.)

Much is up in the air - so waiting is the only answer we can give.
Until then, I'm playing other games(CoH, SupCom, Vampire), work on my next Su-25T campaign(17 missions), some movies scripting stuff, etc.

I bet if you posted that on the Lock On forum, you would be. I hoped things would be a little more open for free discussion here on SimHQ, but that is not be either. From 20mm's post when they locked my thread on the July announcement, I get the impression that SimHQ has thier own agenda, and I am guessing that it has to do with money and potential advertising revenues.

I will say that getting permanently banned on the Lock On forums was in many ways worth it. I have been contacted by a number of people, one or two of whom has been able to give me some really interesting information. I would love to share it, but first I need to find a forum that will allow free discussion without locking any thread that offends ED.

So exactly who did you get your information from? The last thread you wrote on here had some idiot pretending to be Alfa from the Lockon.ru forums. I have a pretty good idea that the 'Alfa' that posted briefly on Lockonfiles.com with similar information, may be a similar idiot imposter.

My point is that there are a lot of people from the official forums that think way to highly of themselves, and act like they are the only ones that play this game.

What really gets me that the speculation about BS being standalone/add-on has completely gotten out of hand. Why can't you just wait for the announcement? Why would ED work for so long on something and then make a bad announcement? Why would you even listen to someone that doesn't even work for ED? If the announcement comes and I'm wrong, I'll be the first to admit it, then I'll eat my words.

I'm all for free discussion, but it sickens me when someone can't do better than an ingnorant, not very well thought out post, like "What have ED been doing for the last two years?". That's incredibly insulting.

I will certainly agree with that part of your post. I will not make public who the people I am in contact with are. Some of them are simply other members of the sim community that are also tired of the secret society BS and the heavy handed treatment on the ED forums. One is claiming to be a former ED team member, but I have not confirmed that yet. And one is a well recognized name in the software publishing industry....that is all I will say there, because I gave my word. I am not going to say anymore on this forum, because the thread will probably disappear anyway.

I will say this.....up until a few days ago, this whole thing was not a big deal to me. I enjoy flying the A-10 in Lock On, although I have FC, I never really did much with the Su-25. I am mainly an A-10 guy. I checked in every once in a while on the Lock On forum to see how BS was coming, as I figured I would probably try it once it came out. It was not a big deal though. The other day someone started a thread on the Lock On forums about....heck, I don't even remember, it was some thread about something like some photos? or something that was pretty much harmless, and for some unknown reason it disappeared. Someone else started a thread about why that other thread disappeared, and I posted something critical of the way threads are routinely deleted over there. That caused a conflict with an ED tester called Rockwelder, who I referred to as a drone, for his willingness to go along with the practice of just deleting any thread that was the least bit critical of ED. That got me a 30 day ban, and a bunch of PM's from EvilBio1. When I refused to delete my post, my ban was changed to permanent. Heckuva way to treat your customers, isn't it? If you go into WalMart and say something they don't like, do they throw you out and tell you never to come back? Up until that, I didn't really care that much. Yes, I was a bit critical of ED's many missed release dates and the lack of information from them. Now, I am pissed. To me, it is just wrong to treat people like that.

This has all been a VERY educational experience though.

I have no idea who that is, or who the person he is supposed to be an imposter of is. It does not have anything to do with my posts, or my issues with the lock on forums. And this is not, to the best of my knowledge, one of the people who has contacted me.

This Anti-ED campaign going on over several forums is poorly organized...

Well, I just would take everything you hear with a pinch of salt. And to be honest (and I'm not trying to be nasty here), I think you should keep whatever you have heard to yourself, because I think one of the reasons people are upset over this whole BS thing is because speculation is getting out of hand and is somehow being taken as gospel. The only way we'll really know anything is when the announcement is made BY EAGLE DYNAMICS. There are a few people from the Lock On forums who come across as just plain instigators, looking to start trouble.

As far as being banned for calling someone a drone: well, I don't blame them. It's highly insulting to insinuate that someone can't think for themselves. And at the moment, the moderators of Lockon.ru forums and the employees of ED must have very little patience anymore. No matter what setbacks they have had over BS, I'm sure they have been working way too hard to appreciate a lot of flack over a game that might not even make them that much money. I know there is more to life than money, but that is how they make their living.

And I really fail to see (this is not aimed at you), what conspiracy the development of a game can bring about? It's just a game! ED is not the government! I think some people just have too active an imagination

Mad Dog, Think what you like, Mad Dog, but that's simply not true. We are just trying to run a clean forum. 20mm and I are simmers just like you are, and you shouldn't think otherwise. There is no "us against them" or "fight the man" situation going on here.

Neither SimHQ nor Lockonfiles are tabloids that run rumor as fact - nor would SimHQ nor Lockonfiles fail to publish or allow discussions for fear of impairing our non-existing advertising revenues (revenues lol if only we had some ...) at least we give Eagle Dynamics a chance to release info about their product and then we can comment.

I've been in this forums for a while and I can testify that a thread gets locked for its content, or lack of.

Unfortunately, I have to agree - Eagle Dynamics PR is next to non-existent.

Since I was mentioned by name, I'd just like to say that Mad Dog's overview of his ban was entirely inaccurate. I don't plan on airing his dirty laundry here and in fact wouldn't have even posted anything if he hadn't mentioned me personally.

I think most people are intelligent enough to figure out who is hiding something and who is not. The people who get into dirty laundry trouble are the ones who think they are smarter than everyone else, but really are not.

Obviously, that is a secret. Otherwise they would have announced another date for the announcement.

Probably there must a legal angle they want to clarify - nothing more than that, their 'site' must be ready by now.

My guesstimate is that it should be online soon and then we will be informed of the 'great' news they want to share with us.

Maybe ED needs a bit of viagra to help stiffen it's resolve? The lockon Forums is back up now, btw.

I don't know if any of you saw the removed post from Thomas' site. It had to do with Black Shark being a new product and not compatible with Flaming Cliffs. Questions were asked on Eagle's forums and were subsequently deleted. My spidey sense tells me that there might be something to those posts. The cat may have been let out of the bag and they are rethinking their announcement.

Or it could have been a rumour spread by an instigator (which there seem to be plenty of!!!) and ED didn't want to upset their customers.
