It seems that interest in IL2 1946 has declined at SimHQ but the SAS forum is alive and well and overflowing with IL2 1946 content.

SAS~Monty27 has put together a new and improved TFM for 4.12.2, check it out.

Yes, IL2 is one of the greatest, if not the greatest WWII flightsim there is.

and the modders have just done incredible work

you can choose UP3 or HSFX or DBW and everything works great

Still flying IL2 after all these years... still years of fun left I reckon smile
HSFX for me, works great!

Just started Il2 up again after digging the old 1946 box out of storage. Got the SAS treatment and the new TFM for 412 and even working on a few skins.

Looks like the end all mod pack for IL2 1946.

Anyone with experience with this: Will TFM 412 work online for coop/DF play (assuming all players all modded up the same)?
Also, it seems this was designed to go with DBW best. Can anyone confirm DBW cannot be used for any online play, including coop?

I'm still new to all the mod compatibilities. If I'm trying to set up a DCG server with these mods for coop with a friend, does it require special campaigns designed specifically for the TFM mods? How does that all work (probably needs a whole new thread)?

I know that DBW is for offline only. If you are interested in an online modpack try looking into HSF-7. It is presently the preferred modpack for online play.

Thanks. I'm familiar with HSFX, but this TFM seems to add so much more. I'll probably register at the SAS site and ask there. It seems like there's more activity there.

Re: 4.12.2 Latest and Greatest - 05/14/14 03:15 PM

I have the full TFM 412 pack installed and working but, for me, it seems to make game loading really slow and the FMB is very slow. I am now using modact 3 for 412 and just have the planes and mods I want rather than 20 different versions of the me 109 or other popular plane.

I decided to pull IL2FB out of moth balls and update to 4.12.2 and have added the SAS mods. Whew! It took a couple days but what the modders have done with this game is amazing. It absolutely rivals the failed IL2-Clod graphically and game play is far superior imo. Just scratching the surface getting into it but so far I am having a load of fun.

I would like to try it, but it looks like long sweat-full dance to install it.
Maybe I am getting old, but prefer the simplicity of HSFX install and update.

Re: 4.12.2 Latest and Greatest - 05/19/14 03:46 PM

Just a fair warning for the curious. I'm a huge proponent for JSGME, but it wasn't designed for speed. If you download the full package and follow the instructions, prepare to put your box on hold for a very long time...

I also prefer HSFX, but I'll give TFM a fair shake before I write it off.

Re: 4.12.2 Latest and Greatest - 05/19/14 06:45 PM

Brennus is 1000% correct about JSGME, especially with TFM packs.

It takes a bit of care and effort to add the packs manually but it is way faster.

The TFM packs contain a massive amount of material, much of which many of us will never use.

I do not think it rivals Cliffs of Dover graphically but, for something developed in the last century, it is really very good.

Dark Blue World is supposed to be released soon for 4.12.2 and TD is still at it with 4.13, I quess, so IL2 has a few miles left.

Do you think Oleg Maddox and the programmers and others responsible for building IL2 thought it would last this long?

They built something that will never be matched for modability and content.

I agree with everything you have written here Sunchaser...

Self-shadowing of the airplanes and cockpits would go along way to making it look a lot closer to Clod...

Maybe TD will pull that rabbit out of the hat.

This and a bit higher LOD range for terrain.

This sim is still my first choice for spending quality time in the air.

WoW! That's IL2:1946? I'd love an early Cold War game. Any F-4s or F-8s?

I need to reload this and start playing it again. Anyone have instructions to get 1946 updated to get all the goodies?

Re: 4.12.2 Latest and Greatest - 05/27/14 03:31 AM

Timothy, it will be a lot of work but well worth the effort.

First install IL2 1946 and get this:
http://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php?topic=38443.0

It will get you from the boxed version to 4.12.2

Then Go here:
http://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php?topic=40015.0

Be sure to read carefully and ask questions there if you need to.
Trying to rush it will lead to frustration and madness and more of both.

Pack 24 has your F-4 and F-8.

Re: 4.12.2 Latest and Greatest - 07/13/14 04:33 PM

Having been busy with military service, I'm finally getting caught up and getting to install this.

I'm setting up the keyboard, but I can't find a keyboard layout. I found one from 2006, which is old and missing buttons and I have one from 2012, but I know it's missing stuff, because it doesn't have Supercharger stage options.

Also, how do you set up Eyefinity? I know how to set it up in Windows 8, but not how to set it up in game. What FOV should be used?

Have you been over at the SAS to ask?

I would be interested in what you found out.

thanks

Re: 4.12.2 Latest and Greatest - 07/18/14 07:13 PM

Can someone tell me what the difference between "New-TFM" and "TFM-412 The Next Level" is?

Pielstick, there have been 3 versions of TFM.

The first one is now obsolete. http://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,28809.0.html

The second is the "New-TFM" which SAS~Monty27 built on the first TFM with streamlined packs for easier use, more content, etc.
It was built on 4.10 with Dark Blue World
http://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,35424.0.html

The third is "TFM-412 The Next Level" which is built on 4.12.2 updated with the latest SAS Mod Activator and
http://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php?topic=40015.0

TFM-412 The Next Level is supposed to be easily itegrated with the upcoming new version of DBW (Dark Blue World) which is being built for 4.12.2 by the guys at SAS.

So far TFM-412 The Next Level has 27 seperate packs, several optional packs and 2 campaigns with probably much more to come.

Re: 4.12.2 Latest and Greatest - 07/20/14 09:41 PM

Thanks Sunchaser, that's the most succinct explanation I have seen.

I had been using New-TFM and was kind of confused to see New-TFM and TFM-412 The Next Level threads sitting right next to eachother on the SAS website. The descriptions are maybe a little disjointed and hard to follow unless you are a black belt in the IL-2 mod scene reading

Still, I've got it now.... up and running with TFM-412 and looking forward to checking out all the new features in 4.12.

The longevity of this sim and the community around it are pretty amazing!

salute

Thanks for that Sunchaser.
I use DBW and was looking for any updates or new stuff.
I'll be looking forward to that.
Yep, this sim sure does have a long life.
Been playing it since IL2 first came out.

Still....one flight a day, everyday.
Well, 'most' days..... wink
