OUT NOW - English Channel Final Release

OUT NOW - English Channel Final Release - 08/28/09 10:20 PM

Hi all,

Well, I'm really pleased to announce that my English Channel map is finished and available for download. You'll find that there are 4 maps - summer and winter versions of the 1940 - 1941 version, and summer and winter versions of the 1942 - 1945 version.

The download is very large - the maps come with hundreds of custom objects and airfields so be patient. You'll also need some other 3rd party object mods (see ReadMe for details). I've provided an auto-installer, though of course if you're ok with mods a manual install works too.

Not much more to say really. Enjoy the map and make lots of campaigns and missions!

Thanks to all who gave advice/ideas/comments etc. I really hope you'll enjoy the map and have good fun recreating the dogfights over Europe.

Joe

Hmm...downloaded 1 and then was told that was my limit for the day, for free users.
Guess I won't have this 'til Tuesday!
Looks like it'll be worth it, though. It's my favorite map. I hardly fly any other.

Re: OUT NOW - English Channel Final Release - 08/29/09 06:33 PM

Okay, I still haven't gotten to install the map yet, still installing the other mods it requires and I've run into a little problem. Hopefully someone (Puts? smile ) will have some insight. In the mod, "MadToc TOW Objects," it is staed in the readme for installation this: "Put the file named ' ToW ' in the following file:(C: or D:)\Ubisoft\IL-2 Sturmovik on 1946 Mod\MODS\STD\3do\Buildings" and when I go to my MODS|STD folder I see no folder entitled "3do" or "Buildings" for that matter. Do I just create new folders and then add this mod? This one doesn't seem to conform to the new 1.1 UI version or does it? Thanks for any help you can give!

Puts, thanks for the reply. I have already gone ahead and created the folders in the area that the readme suggested and it worked fine! I did look through my Mods folder and saw the folder you were talking about but decided to post here first instead of just going ahead and putting the folders and files in there. Looks like it will work with them in either location! Thanks for the reply.

Joe, bloody awesome mate! I love the final version. Just did a QMB mission with Ju-88s and 109 E-1s attacking, us in Spit MkIs and Hurris and with 32 planes in the air, flak going off... it was a thing of beauty to behold! Smooth as silk and gorgeous to view. Congrats and thanks again for all your hard work!!! Can't wait to see what you start to tinker with next... wink

Anxious to download this Wonderful addition to IL2!!! Hopefully you have already been thanked by Oleg, himself, for helping his Product to continue to satisfy so many...and, if he or UBI were thinking, they could make Bucks from your hard work by re-issuing/distributing a final IL2 release. But that's their concern...

Is there a possiblity you could put these Map Downloads up at Filefront. Rapidshare is a Pain...and Not Rapid. I hate their approach to always making a burdensome pitch for Money by having irritating Nag Delays! I'm now waiting the requisite 15 minuts (not more,I hope) between downlaods of the four RAR Parts.

Anyway, thanks Canon for all your months (years??) of hard work creating these wonderfully detailed and historically accurate maps for us.

P.S. Is it possible to post the ReadMe here in the Thread? Then folks could read the read me (Doh!) while waiting...waiting...for Four RAR parts to download. They could then also possibly simultaneously download any missing "Other MODs" which will be required. Just a thought.

Your prayers have been answered. smile

Readme:

Quote:

After almost 2 years of work, hundreds of hours of research and work I’m thoroughly happy to say that I’ve finished my English Channel map. And from it, I’ve produced 4 maps. The first map covers 1940 – 1941 and features accurate airfields for this timeframe. The second map covers 1942-45 and includes the appearance of several important USAAF airfields. Both maps have summer and winter versions.

Along with custom authentic airfields, I’ve created over 100 new objects covering a wide scope of uses – RAF airfield buildings and hangars, Luftwaffe hangars, English and French buildings etc. They’re designed so that you can have large densely populated cities with almost no impact on frame-rates. The airfields are created using maps and diagrams and in all cases I’ve tried to get the right buildings in the right places.

I hope you enjoy the fruits of my labour – I’m looking forward to starting new projects now this one is completed and wrapped up. I look forward to any missions and campaigns people make for the map, and hope you get many hours enjoyment from it.

Joe

Installation

Requirements

Firstly, you must be running 4.09. The map does not work with 4.08 or anything earlier.

Make sure you have the following third-party mods installed (I believe Hangar 2 comes with U.I. 1.1)

LAL_Rone’s Hangar 2

http://allaircraftarcade.com/forum/downloader.php?file=Skins/Buildings/LAL_HANGAR.rar

LAL_Rone’s Fortification Mod

http://allaircraftarcade.com/forum/downloader.php?file=/Skins/Buildings/MOD_LAL-Fortification.rar

MadToc TOW Objects

http://allaircraftarcade.com/forum/downloader.php?file=BranToc_objets_ToW.rar

KevinP Road Plates

http://www.4shared.com/file/113197852/f82de3ec/ROAD_MOD.html

or

http://www.mediafire.com/?ljtwmtzw2nm

To do:

1) Extract the contents of all files to one folder.
2) The folder should contain a readme (this one), and 2 folders – one named ‘To Install’ and one named ‘Text to Add’
3) Open ‘To Install’ and double-click on the ‘install.exe’. Follow the instructions in the installer and it should put all the necessary files in your MODS folder.
4) Now open the ‘Text to Add’ folder.
5) The ‘Add To Static.txt’ file contains the entries for new objects, and the information needs to be pasted into your existing static.ini file. Search your MODS folder for …\com\maddox\il2\objects\static.ini
6) The ‘Add to All.txt’ contains the entries for the FMB listing. Copy the entries to ...\MODS\MAPMODS\Maps\all.ini.
7) If you have QMB+ installed, you can install a set of QMB missions for the 1940-41 summer and winter maps. I haven’t made any for the 1942-45 version because I’d rather just release the maps and let you make your own  . The ‘QMBPlus’ folder contains entries for your standard conf.ini file.

If you’ve followed all those steps correctly you should be able to load up the game now and all four maps should appear in FMB and QMB, and you should be able to fly and save missions.

That’s it – all done!

Joe

www.canons-skins.com

If you have a low-end PC, or you’re getting memory issues (because it’s quite a demanding map), I’ve also included 2 actors.static files that only contain the airfields (no towns or cities). Rename them and overwrite the original actors.static (backup first!) if you want to use them. You can find these in the folder called Airfields_Only.

A word of thanks.

Many people have helped with this project, from those who made the mapping tools to those that contributed resources and references. Particular thanks goes to 2 people – Compans for making the wonderful textures that bring the map to life, and Eugene ‘BigBossMalone’ for helping with the tedious task of adding roads and cities to map_t. Many thanks!

Re: OUT NOW - English Channel Final Release - 08/30/09 08:46 AM

If you're having CTD issues, you can download a lighter version of the actors.static files from here:

http://www.canons-skins.com/aaa/EnglishChannel_lite.rar

or try this suggesting from vtrelut

Quote:
I ran again IL2 Setup.exe (it is at the root folder of the game and configures your conf.ini mainly), set the graphic card parameters to the maximum, and then switched to personalized settings; I made only 2 changes: enable S3TC texture compression and anisotropic filtering of textures

Cannon, the maps look awesome. I have an issue though. In the instructions of the MadToc TOW Objects
it says "Put the file named ' ToW ' in the following file:(C: or D:)\Ubisoft\IL-2 Sturmovik on 1946 Mod\MODS\STD\3do\Buildings" Well my STD does not have a 3do\Buildings,it doesn't even have the 3do. Anyone have any ideas? I have done all the other steps and can view the maps in the full mission builder. But I can't play them and this is the only step I have'nt completed.

Oh I have used the 1.1 unified if that helps.

Craterman, you obviously haven't read the thread. I asked the exact same thing on page two: Question You have two options to make it work. Create the folders or put it where they actually are. Good luck and have fun with the new map, it's excellent!

No problem mate. Rereading my post it came across a little different than I intended. The comment about you not reading the whole thread sounded almost accusatory or something but was only meant to state what I saw and not meant as a criticism or wagging my finger at you. wink Hope you didn't take it that way but I'm not surprised if you did. Apologies. Everyone skims at times (yes, even me!! smile ) so no worries.

As for the folder location, I'm guessing that particular mod came out before the UI, which restructured some things with mods, so possibly we all had those folders there at some point but they have since moved. Again, just guessing/speculating. Good news is it will still work if you just create them in the stated desire location if you didn't find where they currently are.

Each time I fly on this map I get more impressed with all the work that Joe put into this. Amazing what he has accomplished working mostly on his own. Thanks again Joe!

Re: OUT NOW - English Channel Final Release - 09/01/09 01:32 AM

No luck here. I tried to find the other modes I have to down load but just get to the begging AAA site and then I can not find the other modes. To complicated for me to take the time after a long day of doing computer work. I don't want to come home and have trouble doing it again.

Re: OUT NOW - English Channel Final Release - 09/01/09 02:09 AM

Some one from 334th gave me some help over team speak - so i signed on to AAA and then i could find the files.

first instuction:
1)Extract the contents of all files to one folder.

I have four folders
English_Channel.part1
part2, part3, part4

Each has a subfolder English Channel
each of which has seperate and different folders.

So do I move all the contents under one signle English Channel or what?

If you have a program that unfolds the .rar files they should all unfold one after the other and dump everything into a single unextracted folder. Mine did. I have a program called WinRAR that extracted everything perfectly. You should be able to find a free or trial version on the internt through the WFSE (World Famous Search Engine - aka Google).

You could merge all the contents of the 4 individual folders that you have into one folder but be carefull that files did not span between two .rar files. If you get a file that doesnt want to merge might be a clue.

Hope this helps.

Make sure you are registered at AAA and logged in. Then use the links in the read me to download the extra mods. To do this, you must have Microsoft Word or some similar program that displays the links . . . then press the "Ctrl" key while putting the mouse cursor over the link and you can click on the link. This will directly download the mods.

Re: OUT NOW - English Channel Final Release - 09/01/09 02:09 PM

Hi Guys, I posted this at AAA in an attempt to clear up for the non mod savvy users who were having problems with this install so for those of you that aren't registered there I will post it here in an attempt to help anyone else who might need a little extra help;

After working on this for 2 days, backing up all the pertinent files and keeping a record of what I was doing (thankfully I have a secondary install) I have figured out what the best way to install this map with the fewest headaches. It goes without saying that for this map to be included with any update it would have to self-install (without having to add anything to the static.ini) and for those people who really don't know how to do this manually that would create the least amount of headaches.

1. Start with UI_1.1.1 , this is best for everybody, it's not that hard to have multiple installs of this game for trying out new Mods.
You holdouts who haven't got it need to get on the bus.

2. If you already have 1.1.1 you Do Not need to install the Hanger Mod or the Fortification Mod, this will simplify things a little.

3. You need to have winrar you can get it here and use the trial forever http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm
or here http://download.cnet.com/WinRAR-32-bit/3000-2250_4-10007677.html

4. If you have all the above covered put the 4 parts in a folder on your Desktop and left drag a box around all 4 parts and right click,
extract all 4 parts to English_Channel/ (that means hold the left mouse button down and drag the cursor over the 4 files) if it asks if its okay to overwrite say yes

5. Open the folder after you've extracted it and find the read me and get these 2 mods:
MadToc TOW Objects:
http://allaircraftarcade.com/forum/downloader.php?file=BranToc_objets_ToW.rar
KevinP Road Plates:
http://www.mediafire.com/?ljtwmtzw2nm
Once you have them you can drop the Road Plates Mod in your Mod folder Located in: C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946
You will have to open them with winrar also and you must open them to find the root folder of each before dropping The Road Mod in, inside there will be an add to ini list for each. For the ToW objects you will have to create a Folder called Buildings and a Folder called 3do then you must drop the folder called ToW into Buildings, Buildings into 3do, and then 3do into STD in your Mods folder so that the end result looks like this: C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946\MODS\STD\3do\Buildings\ToW
(again this should really be in the installer so that everybody who hasn't done this before isn't not going crazy)

6. I bet you thought you were done, right? Not quite, you still have to locate your static .ini found in
C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946\MODS\STD\com\maddox\il2\objects
make a copy of it and put it in a folder and call it Origstatic, you can zip it up and keep it outside your game like in the Ubisoft folder if you like just in case your game goes wonky on you. Add the text from the add to static to the bottom of the static .ini
at the bottom right above the line that looks like this:

//===========================================================================
// eof

do the same thing with the RoadMod insertini.txt and the BranToc Tow objects static_ini.txt

Go look at the last line of text above in the Canon add to static that looks like this:
3do/airfield/bbitumenearth/Turn/mono.sim
and remove the extra b it's a typo

Now Canon's Read Me has some of this already but this is for those of you that have not had the experience or are not sure I thought that this would clarify things and answer most of the questions all at once
I have a 32bit AMD2800+ on a PC Chips MB with 1.5 Gb Ram and an Nvidia GS7600 OC 512Mb agp card
I can get solid 35fps in a Spit or Hurri over London. I haven't had any Paratroop error so I cant speak to that and I have no problems with creating DF's or Coops and saving them in fact I already made a coop with 32 planes with little loss in framerates
I hope this helps someone, sorry about the long post.
Good Luck and Good Hunting

FA_Bong

edit. I might add further clarification, in the add to static text for the CanonUK_objects there is a typo to fix that might be easier to find if done before adding to the static.ini it's right at the bottom - also the Tow mod will also work if the ToW folder is dropped into the 3do/Buildings folder of the CanonUk_Objects or I understand you can create it's own folder in Mods/ToW_Objects/3do/Buildings/ToW but I haven't tested that myself _Bong

PS I hope the links included do not violate the spirit of the rules around here.

Re: OUT NOW - English Channel Final Release - 09/01/09 02:16 PM

I have both beta and final living happily together- the map names are slightly different, so there are no load conflicts that I've run into. Your mileage may vary.

Re: OUT NOW - English Channel Final Release - 09/01/09 02:20 PM

Bong, your instructions are very clear, but I think you've overlooked something. To use your guide successfully, one must first have the AAA UI 1.1.1 (unified installer 1.1.1) installed! This will include the needed LALRone Hanger and Objects mods.

I thought that that was pointed out in points 1 & 2 ?

Re: OUT NOW - English Channel Final Release - 09/01/09 03:51 PM

I'm confused about this Quick Mission Builder Plus. I see that Cannon has included some missions and you have to copy and paste some lines, but I don't know where. So he says to look at the QMB+ instructions. I downloaded that . . . I think, but I'm not sure how to install that as the instructions are not too clear to me. Sorry, I'm usually not inept with mods but I want to make sure I don't screw up this install. Sure, I have an original IL-2 1946 folder backed up but it takes quite a bit of copying and pasting to get back to where I am. biggrin

Thanks in advance.

Re: OUT NOW - English Channel Final Release - 09/01/09 09:20 PM

Well, I went and installed QMB+ as per the instructions and the maps that come with it show up in the QMB. However, the new channel maps don't show up there (although they do appear in the FMB).

I added the four lines:

CustomX=Channel4041
CustomX=Channel4041W
CustomX=Channel4245
CustomX=Channel4245W

to my conf.ini file so that it now looks like this:

[quick]
Custom0=NWEurope
Custom1=MTO
Custom2=Bessarabia
Custom3=Channel4041
Custom4=Channel4041W
Custom5=Channel4245
Custom6=Channel4245W

What might I be missing?

Re: OUT NOW - English Channel Final Release - 09/02/09 02:57 AM

QMB+ can be a bit tricky to get working. Did you create a folder called "Quicks" in your mission folder and put the missions in there?
You may want to go to the AAA site and do a search for threads concerning QMB+. You may have missed some small thing in the setup.

IvanK yes - they are seperate. However, there are some object issues with the beta map now. Pink objects around airfields make me think texture file names may have changed.

I never created any "Quicks" folder, however one got created in my main IL-2 1946 directory. The one in my Mods/QMBPlus/missions folder is named "Quick" (without the "s") and it has the missions in it.

Re: OUT NOW - English Channel Final Release - 09/02/09 02:57 PM

Hmmmm, the stuff that comes with QMBPlus shows up . . . Slovakia, Ardennes, etc. The missions from Channel do not.

Re: OUT NOW - English Channel Final Release - 09/02/09 05:42 PM

letterboy, your QMBPlus folder should be in your mods folder, inside it should be a folder called Missions, and inside that a folder called Quick, no `s` on the end. Your QMB mission files go in there. You have to get the QMB Channel missions, here`s a link to some for the 42-45 map. Puts

Re: OUT NOW - English Channel Final Release - 09/02/09 05:50 PM

Can someone tell me, in layman's terms (for us old and not so smart guys) what effect does the lite actors version have on the map, and, as was recommended elsewhere, can you tell me the same pertaining to changing the conf.ini TEXCOMPRESS=2 instead of 0?

I'm just curious, and trying not to screw anything up.

Thanks.
Posted By: Ivan Putski

Re: OUT NOW - English Channel Final Release - 09/02/09 06:28 PM

Bob Holmes, the lite actors limits some of the city, and airfield objects of the map. In the config.ini TEXCOMPRESS is still set at 0 on my install, I have`nt been having any probs running the new map at all, so have`nt changed my settings. I learned a long time ago when it`s running well, keep you hands off it. Puts biggrin

Re: OUT NOW - English Channel Final Release - 09/02/09 07:29 PM

Thanks for the info Puts. I have been having problems with the map. I did get it downloaded, installed, working, but....when I start flying around in the QMB+ (winter or summer, doesn't matter) to just admire the map, I finally just revert back to my desktop. In other words, I don't quit, the program "isn't responding" (in Vista's words). What have I/am I doing wrong?

My hardware is follows: Phenom II x3 720, 4GB A-Data memory, XFX 4850 video card (1GB), 520W Corsair PSU, Gigabyte GA-MA790X-UD4P MB, Vista Home Premium. Of course, you gotta understand, this stuff was put together by me, old and shaky hands and 67 yr old eyesight and all. Cooling I don't think is a problem. I use Core Temp and everything seems OK there. Do you think I have a hardware problem someplace?

Thank you for any insight.

Re: OUT NOW - English Channel Final Release - 09/02/09 08:11 PM

You may want to try the lite actors files then, that may help your CTD after the sim has been running for awhile. I have`nt had that happen. Don`t feel bad I`m the same age as you, you have a much better rig than I`m running it on. There`s an article about this map on the AllAircraftArcade.com site in the IL2 MAP MODS Discussion & WIP-MAP-MODS v4.08 & v4.09 section. If you have`nt checked it out yet, try it, there`s a lot of problem fixes there. Sorry I`m not more help on this. Puts

Thank you. I'll try the light ones. Damn, somebody on here old as me. I bet you we're far in the minority. My computer, yeah, it is pretty good. My kids told me what I needed, then they left town. I had to order it, pay for it, and put it together. Something just ain't right!

Thanks for the suggestion and help. I have been looking at the AAA stuff, but those guys over there are way above my head. I understand maybe 1/4 of what they are talking about.

Any ideas? Somewhere else to download from?

LetterBoy; Try also putting a copy of the missions in the main "quicks" folder, see if that works. I always put mine in that folder and it works for me.

Re: OUT NOW - English Channel Final Release - 09/03/09 02:07 PM

What puzzles me is that the Channel Maps don't appear in the QMB Plus. Even if I'm not getting the missions to appear, at least I should be able to set up my own quick mission by choosing the map from the drop down menu and then choosing the altitude, target type, etc.

Re: OUT NOW - English Channel Final Release - 09/03/09 03:30 PM

Well, I started from scratch and I am puzzled by something concerning the ToW mod that is a prerequisite for the Channel map. In the readme it says:

"Put the file named ' ToW ' in the following file:
(C: or D:)\Ubisoft\IL-2 Sturmovik on 1946 Mod\MODS\STD\3do\Buildings"

I just want to be clear; am I to create the folders "3do" and "Buildings" in the "STD" directory or am I looking at it wrong?

That's what I did and it worked for me. As for the QMB+ issue, I'm assuming that you did enter the correct entries into the config.ini file? Make sure you also check your numbering, if there is a number missing all maps after that will not appear. Good luck!

This is what my conf.ini entry looks like:
[quick]
Custom0=NWEurope
Custom1=MTO
Custom2=Bessarabia
Custom3=Channel4041
Custom4=Channel4041W
Custom5=Channel4245
Custom6=Channel4245W

Now, we're talking about the conf.ini that is in the main IL-2 1946 directory, right?

Re: OUT NOW - English Channel Final Release - 09/03/09 03:53 PM

Letterboy if it is installed correctly you should see four maps for the channel in the Quick mission builder screen. You have to put the QMB missions for this map into the mods/QMBPlus/missions/ quick folder to play. Make sure you have the map load ini lines in your mods/mapmods/map folder All configeration file. The lines for the custom missions in your conf. I`m going to put some pics of my setup as an example. Puts

if i select them from the FMB, the game simply crash after a while of loading the map...

Is this with the Channel map or any others? What this usually means, i.e., "wrong target selected" is that you don't have any missions for that particular target you selected. If you have put the missions in the folder x:\IL-2\MODS\QMB+\Missions\Quick and it's not working try putting it into the x:\IL-2\Missions\Quick folder. If you don't have one create it. This is where I have all my QMB+ missions, not in the mods folder, and it works for me. It should work with them in either place but for some it has to be one or the other. Give it a shot.

Letterboy, yes, that's the right config.ini file.
Posted By: Sunchaser

Re: OUT NOW - English Channel Final Release - 09/03/09 04:53 PM

JG5_WrangleWolf, the wrong target selected error means the needed MIS files that are included in the map download are not in the right place.

They need to be placed inside the "Quick" folder at the end of this path: MODS/QMBPlus/Missions/Quick.

This folder contains the necessary information to allow for proper target selection.

I have been able to get the map to install and show up in both the FMB and the QMBPlus lists but get total lockup trying to launch either.

I think we need more computer power to run this map properly..

Or, what Avatar said. smile

I have the missions in the IL-2 1946/Mods/QMBPlus/Missions/Quick folder as well as a newly created Quick folder in IL-2 1946/Missions folder.

Are there any common mistakes made with the way entries are pasted into the ini files? Maybe I can retrace those steps.

Okay, here are the entries I'm using (except static because there are just too many to list):

Re: OUT NOW - English Channel Final Release - 09/03/09 07:41 PM

well, step by step...

by some reason the missions where not there, when i run the installer, they were not copied. i have done it by hand.

now, it starts to load the mission in QMB, but stands at 23% for a while and then the error of the 'paratropper' appears

just checked and erased the 'b' from 3do/airfield/bbitumenearth/Turn/mono.sim
and now the mission loading arrive to 85%, but then i get the paratrooper error again

Well, one day I will sort out the QMBPlus problem, but in the mean time are there any missions out that use the new Channel map? I mean, regular single missions. Or even co-op missions.

Yes. You can download a couple of BOB missions at AAA that use the new map.

Re: OUT NOW - English Channel Final Release - 09/06/09 06:58 AM

Is there a download site, other than Rapidshare's, that I can download CanonUK's maps from?

I've given up on Rapidshare after many, many unsuccessful attempts at using their site - they clearly want one to pay and become a "premium user" (can't blame them ... hehe!)

Re: OUT NOW - English Channel Final Release - 09/06/09 04:07 PM

Wow...simply...wow.

I have not played IL2 for about 6 months, its one of those games I have always kept on my harddrive and go back to for a fix every now and then.

I saw that this map was released earlier today and spent a fair while updating previous mods I had and getting this all set up...absoutely amazing Canon..thankyou so much, I did not think it could be this good.

This game is undoubtedly the best value for money in any title I have ever owned (been gaming on and off for well over 20 years) considering I have constantly had a version installed on my hardrive since the original way back when. I think you and other modders have further extended its shelf life for a long way to come.

Again I thank you mate, what you moddding blokes have been able to do, and what you in particular have done simply astounds me. All the work and time you must have spent is greatly appreciated.

Cheers mate, all the best.

Anyone found Stonehenge yet? It's listed as an object in the static.ini file, so I know it's there, but I have'nt yet located it in game. It should be just north of Salisbury.

I spent way too much time today flying all over the map north of Salisbury...comparing Game map to Real maps...recalling my visit to Stoneghenge many years ago. If it is on Canon's Map it is very well hidden or small or something. I give up!

Re: OUT NOW - English Channel Final Release - 09/19/09 03:28 PM

Haven't has the time to search for Stonehenge but hats off to Cannon for such a great map.

I think Cannon has made a very good job of the airfields. Tangmere which I know well is very accurate in what he has included albeit with the post war South and West runway extensions. Biggin is pretty good with the drop off the downs not far from the end of the main runway - 'Biggin on the Bump'. North Weald is again very close with the old A11 to the West and from which you can see today, as the M11, the main runway he has put in and the second crossing runway. The roads are very simple and angular but quite a few of them are there and generally in the right place. Like FSX it's nice to fly over broadly recognisable territory even if he has had to make some compromises for the reduced scale.

I took a Spit1 from my local Shoreham airfield, did a touch and go at Biggin, cut the daisies at Hornchurch and Stapleford Tawney before landing at North Weald. Nice smile

I like the little touches, like the cows between the huts on Shoreham airfield do actually die when you shoot them. Such generosity in the face of the hardship of meat rationing has not gone un-noticed.

Thanks again Cannon,

Cannon says he did'nt locate Stonehenge in it's actual exact historic location- but he's said no more than that about it.
I think that with the scale and all it may be very hard to locate; you'd need to be very close to begin with for it to "pop up".

It's just a pile of rocks, drove past it one time and had to turn around and go back as we missed it! smile

Having seen both up close, I was much more impressed with Newgrange. But I do think it's cool that it's on the map somewhere.

Joe, I just have to say that your map(s) are outstanding! I don't play IL2 any more but from the bottom of my heart, thank you for all that you've done to complete this project, hope you and the family are doing very well these days, cheers mate...

Nice MOD biggrin ! Finaly got my English Channel MOD working. Had the MESH error and struggled a while to solve that. I just changed from DirectX to OpenGL in IL-2 video and then everything made sense. I’m running Windows 7 Enterprise 64 bit.

Now I’m waiting for some great Missions from you who have the ability to make large battles pilot

Re: OUT NOW - English Channel Final Release - 09/28/09 06:01 PM

Guys,

Looking for a little help here. I've installed the map and additional mods and altered the static.ini files etc. When flying over Dover I don't see the docks, just the cranes sitting in the water. I guess I'm missing a file but not sure what.

UI 1.11 installed. maps appear in QMB+ but no docks....

Cheers

Re: OUT NOW - English Channel Final Release - 09/28/09 07:18 PM

Hi Paul

To start off with have you checked your static.ini??
ZipZapp over at All Aircraft Arcade made a handy little tool for checking everything is in order.

Thanks to ZipZapp and AAA.

As posted at AAA.
If you you can't save missions with that map some objects are missed in your static.ini. Also CTDs may be releated to a faulty static.ini.

This little tool finds missing objects and other irregularitys in your static.ini so you can fix it. The tool doesn't know the names of the mods containing the missing objects, but knowing the name of these objects will help to find the mod.

Usage:

Expand zip into an empty folder.
Throw your static.ini (...\mods\STD\com\maddox\il2\objects\) also in that folder.
Run the prog.
Missing/wrong entrys are displayed and also stored in a file "missing.txt" in that folder.
Search and install mods containing the missing objects.
Delete doubled or irregular entrys in your static.ini.
Deleting doubled entrys is optional, they don't seem to hurt.
After saving your original static.ini copy the new one into the \std\....\objects folder.

Attention: If you fixed your static.ini but the map doesn't load anymore: Congrats, everything is right now, but you ran in a memory problem like many others before. Best fix seems to be to set TexCompress = 2 (Some texture compression) in the games conf.ini (Section [Render openGL]/[Render_DirectX]). If even that doesn't work, disable the "fields" part of the cononUK_objects\buildings folder (or try also other object folders there) by renaming it as -fields to save memory (You will not see these objects anymore). If only this helps, it's time to buy a new graphical board with as much memory as possible

Edit: I added a "complete_static.ini" to the zip, which will help to identify the object mod in question. Search the missing object in that ini (beware of spaces) and scroll up until you find a "Title" line. This line will normaly give the name of the mod.

Donwload the tool here:
