Thanks for the Games guys, we will definitely need to get some practise in with torpedos... I am quite sure you are meant to detach them at some point, not enter the water with them still slung under the wings like I kept doing
....
cheers,
Pobs
My first real fly out online.
It was great fun Pobs, and thanks for hosting up. Yep, trying to get a torpedo off with a Ju88 is a real knack....
It's a good job that I, for one, enjoy swimming!
But really enjoyed it.....and EAW is looking better than ever!
Mike skins, and the work on terrain looks superb!

Re: flying online tonight - 11/28/10 02:44 PM
Why are you guys dropping your torpedoes at sea level, and getting your feet wet?
Love to see some pics of these swimming lessons.
Posted By: Pobs
Re: flying online tonight - 11/28/10 03:29 PM
Hi Col,
the problem is that the torpedos are pretty sensitive, to get a torpedo running you need to drop to below 100m, drop your speed to less than 150KPH or so, and be level and straight, to do this you need full flaps and nerves of steel in a big bird like the ju88, she only just flies at those speeds. It is all too easy to stall and drop into the sea on the approach, add in the flak storm as you approach to within strike distance (1000-1500metres) prior to release and you will see why the life of a torpedo plane pilot was short and wet.... as for screenshots, sorry I was too busy trying to stay in the air to take any, I will try next time.
cheers,
Pobs

Thanks for the games guys, had a lot of fun.
BP, sorry we missed you mate, we were online for about 4 hours or so last night. I am posting here when I go online to help co-ordinate times for people.
One little trick on Gameranger is to look at players 'info' by right clicking on their names and it shows the last time they were logged on so you can get an idea of the times when EAW is being played when you aren't actually there...

OK, thanks for the games
... tonight we learnt that bombing Leningrad in Finnish Blenheims, is tricky to say the least... oh, yes and you can't re-arm at an airbase in FAW that only has the camo-net and wood 'hangars'... because they aren't in the 'hangar' slot... useful to know that

Thanks for the games guys, we didn't exactly dominate the skies over Calais, what with a tally of 4 x P40's to our 5 x 109F2's lost... at least we got up there and challenged their attempts at air superiority over the channel :), good flying BP, and nice to see Jell back too....

Re: flying online tonight - 12/19/10 12:34 PM
Some good fun yesterday, a good sweep over Dover in our me109-F2's and a really nice escort mission from Hawkinge in Spit ix's, escorting a squad of A20's to the airfield at Le Havre. We flew the complete mission from take off to landing in about an hour, we were attacked by 109F's and the Abbeville boys in their 190A3's had a go at us as well, but we got 7 bombers onto the target and got home again safe... great fun
Thanks for the flights Shogun

Hi Pobs,
Sorry I missed you the other morning.
My internet has only just been fixed, for good I hope.
It was definately a wiring problem that was putting me out for over half the day.
Pretty busy until 1st week of January as my whole family is here with me now, for keeps.
Can't wait to get in the air again though.
Cheers

Re: flying online tonight - 12/23/10 09:15 AM
No problem BP, I was late getting to my computer due to the snow and ice here too... we had a good flight last night trying to stop the russians bombing an industrial site in Viipurii in '41. Well flown by Landers and Benj, whilst I wandered around looking for an airfield with a hangar to re-arm
... we really need an online target update with a few more hangars on the airfields around Leningrad so we can re-arm
..
will be online most of the next few hours if anyone is interested in flying
...
cheers,
Pobs

Re: flying online tonight - 12/24/10 11:40 AM
Good time trying to bomb the russian supply lines north of Leningrad last night, with limited success I have to admit :), but it was fun, thanks Benj
...
finding the target whilst under attack by Yak1's and Lagg-3's wasn't easy
we found some friendlies though ..
when we did find them we did some damage, but not a lot ..
and we certainly didn't have it all our own way ...

Re: flying online tonight - 12/28/10 09:41 PM
Good to fly online again with Pobs just now!
My internet connection here is dodgy, but it held up long enough for us to get the A20s to the target and to down some 109s and 190A3s in out P38Fs from a groundstarted mission. I was disconnected returning to base.
Posted By: Pobs
Re: flying online tonight - 12/29/10 10:51 AM
Good fun Jell and Benj
... I was a bit wary of going up against 190's in a P38 at low alt but we survived... even if half the bombers we were escorting didnt...
Our air superiority mission over Kronstadt brought me a first... slipping in and re-arming at an enemy base and getting out under the AAA !!!.. boy, were they annoyed !!.... hehehe... luckily the layout of the base meant they couldnt depress their guns enough to hit me once I was down, but they sure tried to make up for it as I left
edit : PS I have a room open for the next hour ....

Re: flying online tonight - 01/19/11 08:01 PM
Grrr!
The ADSL connection here in Mylor got worse and worse over the last three weeks, and we have none at all. Telstra are investigating and they tell me that it is a priority, especially as we pay nearly $70 a month for it. Currently I am using a 3G mobile device in my USB port, but at $16 per gigabyte I do not do anything that chews up the allocation.

Tut, Tut, Tony.
I never thought France was so far behind Blighty.
Our area of Hampshire has just been upgraded to full fibre optic, and when it goes live [soon], I'll have up to 20meg broadband, instead of my current roughly 1.7meg on copper wire.
I hope you find a better connection soon.
Posted By: MrJelly
Re: flying online tonight - 01/19/11 10:31 PM
This is Mylor South Australia John, not France!
The connection in Caux was good when I was there in November-December, but I did not fly online as I had my laptop but no joystick.
The late breaking news is that Telstra have found a problem with the lines in the Mylor exchange, and they are fixing it ASAP.
They might have some trouble today as Stage three of the Tour Downunder passes through Mylor twice today, and the roads will be closed until the race is over.

That dusty SAW Terrain is spectacular Pobs! I must go download it. Having spent more time in Spain than any other European country, I can confirm that that look of 'pastel' is spot on, and comes from the everything getting a light dust covering by the desert wind. I remember getting into a car at Malaga (we had only been at lunch for a couple of hours...and you could see a thin film on the paintwork.....You got that look right on the money matey!!
Remember this from the Beta test days?

yup that white desert is still awaiting the Greece/yugoslavia/eastern med map that has all that limestone to represent

Yup great fun even if I was up until 6.00AM flying....
we completed a number of missions in Spain and ETO_01 but in particular we made three abortive attempts at the Liege rail-bridge mission.... it is still intact and the Wehrmacht are pouring over the Meuse and escaping the pincer movement from the Anglo-Canadians in the North and the US assault from the south.... that bridge has to be closed down gentlemen !! ... so refuel, re-arm grab some food then back into the cockpit and try again !!....
here are some screenies from last nights games in Spain :
sometimes stopping to re-arm doesn't work out as you envisaged it would :

It meant that we could all select SPAW very quickly.
Naturally I have the full set available including a test Western Front which is not ready for release yet:
I need to make a small patch for SPAW online as 1.28E needs the N00-N29NAME.str files. We "borrowed" the set from SAW for the time being today.

We just had an interesting ETO_01 Early game with BPNZ.
BP and I took 190A3s in a fighter sweep from Audembert.
The enemy were P40s from Hawkinge, and Spit Vcs from Manston.
Tactically we took on the P40s and got them all between us, possibly losing one of our AIs.
Our secondary planes had headed towards the Manston group, so after dealing the P40s we headed there, and arrived just in time to down some more Spit Vcs. After the battle the only remaining enemy plane was a Spit Vc which had returned to base, so we let him go and headed back to Audembert, where we both landed safely.
BP arriving home:

On line flying is great fun. Never understood that some many of the community never do it. Yet they want to keep the game going. I just don't get it.

Re: flying online tonight - 02/06/11 09:54 PM
Agreed Uriah!
It occurs to me that people start playing EAW, find SimHQ, see what is happening, and then they start modding, or programming. This then becomes more interesting and important than actually playing the game. It happened to me, so I have just about stopped programming and modding, apart from re-packaging repackageable old scenarios into things that work in 1.28e, particularly for online play. As far as that goes there is nothing urgent. I'm in the process of fixing up DAW, and that will be it.
If you enjoy playing EAW offline, then get yourself online! Everyone who does realises the benefits.

Thanks for the games guys, we successfully defended Foreness from a Ju88 sneak raid then it was off to Madrid to break up raids on the airfields around the city... our first attempt was pretty disastrous, we got pretty solidly caned in our Fury's by the Cr32's of the fascists, but later in the day we successfully intercepted some Br20's in our I-16/10's and saw them off with heavy losses...
great fun,

here are a couple of screenshots from our 'defense of the carriers' missions in SPAW, we lost the USS Saratoga in the first attack but drove off the combined high and low level bombing attack on the USS Enterprise...

Re: flying online tonight - 02/23/11 02:44 PM
Hi guys, we were flying FAW128eBeta1.....
great time with Maj and Pobs last night. First, we flew P39's
on an intercept against Blenhiems and Curtis 75's.
I just had one of those missions where I hit everything I shot at:
I LOVE the cannon on the 39, even thou it only has a handful of
shells. Plenty of mg's thou. Even managed to re-arm and get a fighter.
We decided to fly the 39's again, but this time against 88's and
109g's. Unfortunately, after takeoff, I acquired a real bad warping
problem. I told the guys I was getting crazy warping, but they
reported all looked good to them...%^)
I quickly saw a squad of 88's flying over the water. When I got
close, they were warping from level, in the water, to nose down
in the water.....they were even giving rooster tails! (The one in
front of me was flipping up and down, but stayed in front of me:
Then I also noticed I had hills in the water.....
I crashed my plane to see if the warping might stop when I respawn,
but each plane I respawned in, exploded. And exploded from an
external view. Six explosions in a row! (Was quite glorious looking
anyway!)
So I dont know if something is missing in the Beta or what.
But she worked great the first time, so I don't know........
thanks,
AO

Sorted !! told you we would
....
a couple of really fine missions over Leningrad last night, in the first the Finns sent two squads of fighters, Ms406's and 109G2's (with gunpods), in first to clear the route, with the bombers following quite some time later, and it worked for them, our squad of P39's was decimated by the 109's and despite breaking through we could only do limited damage to the bombers with the ammo we had left before they completed their mission... but a really interesting fight. In the second mission we were supported by Yaks, and the Bombers only had a single squad of G2's to support them, we still took significant losses to the 109's but we drew off the fighters and then we and the Yaks did serious damage to the bomber formation, so I think we can claim a victory on that one, ending the day on evens ...:)

thanks for trying to help me out last night....

All of the scenarios work on my end, offline, (Except DAW)

But you guys could host and join each other, and find each other
the old way with IP.
I'm stumped.....

Re: flying online tonight - 02/25/11 02:42 PM
Hi AO,
yup was very strange... the fact we couldnt find you on tcp/IP tells me it isnt a GR upgrade problem, it has to be either a firewall, or router problem. The question is ' what changed the settings on you', since you didn't do it knowingly yourself it is a bit of a mystery... the only thing I can think of is something being left in a strange configuration when we were testing DAW the night before and we had ctd's and needed a reboot to get back in. I am sure we will get to the bottom of it and find it is something simple that we are overlooking at the moment.
see you in the virtual air again soon...

Some fine games again tonight, Flying the Slot from USS Saratoga in our SBD's, F4f-3's and F6F-4's first off to try to sink the IJN Ryuko, then later in the session we intercepted a supply convoy near Kieta harbour in Bougainville, sinking 2 tankers, a freighter and an escort destroyer... then later still, we took off from Purcell field and climbed over the Owen Stanley mountains in our Beaufighters with P40 escorts to hit a japanese supply convoy leaving Lae harbour in New Guinea. We got torn to pieces on this one to be honest, intercepted by Ki43's and Ki44's we were lucky to get a tanker before we were all shot down....
great fun though

Re: flying online tonight - 03/07/11 06:28 AM
Hi,
nice missions we had.
Norway is closer to England, where Pobs live, than the USA, where ShoGun live(i think).
Lag can happen by bad luck when at the beginning of the game some sort of syncronisation fail.
This tends to happen more often when people live close together.
Probably cause EAW was written at a time when the connections was rather bad(high ping times).
Same sort of lag also can happen, when you switch a plane.
I hope he connection will be better next time.
Greetings,
Knegel

Hi just to re-iterate, if you dont have an extensive 'friends' list yet, then whenever you go on Gameranger, 'host' a room.. it is the only way other people can see you are present if you aren't on their friends list, you can always swap the host once people join you, but there is little point sitting anonymously in Gameranger if no one can see you
...
it is interesting that with the new exe we can get one player with lag and the others flying normally, I seem to remember in 1.2 if there was lag in a game we all saw it..
some great games yesterday guys, really fun, thanks... as for a two hour bombing escort mission over the Solomons... I need a flask of soup and a hip-flask before I dare go on a mission with you guys again...

Re: flying online tonight - 03/07/11 07:21 PM
Carrier landing tips:
Sometimes we manage to luck out and get 'er on the deck at 100+ mph.
But the best speed is between 80 and 90 mph.
At final, you should be at approx. 1000 to 1200 ft alt, 90mph, approx 8000 ft from carrier.
Keep your nose level. (Maybe even 2-3 degrees up)
YOU DO NOT DESCEND BY POINTING YOUR NOSE DOWN!
At 90mph, you will be descending several hundred feet per minute.
Slow down to increase your descent....speed up to slow your descent.
This should set you right down on the deck!

Re: flying online tonight - 03/07/11 10:26 PM
Yeah haha the carrier was tricky alright, I usually get a 50/50 chance by doing it the il-2 way, full flaps and landing gear out and smooth her in from higher alt so as not to having to climb up again at the end of final approach, but when we flew yesterday I was pretty stressed out and because of the lagg I wasnt sure if there was anyone else on final approach, came in way too low and fast, and as I was almost home free despite crappy final approach, and nosed down, I saw a big F6F standing right there, even though I wasnt gna crash into him, I panicked and pulled up, rest is history as I ended up smashing down onto the hangar deck as I stalled, destroying the landing gears and slid all the way to the front of the carrier, tipping over the edge, quickly joining the famous club "Run over by carrier!"
About that club.. when do I get my free cookie?!
Was nice seeing ya`ll flaming those Zero`s and Oscar`s in Pobs`s session though! When ya`ll warned me about a Oscar on my tail, which I didnt see until his 7,7mm tracers started enveloping my canopy, I dived down vertically and pulled up into a hard G turn to the right in the direction of our task force, as I climbed up I saw the rest of you in the middle of a full blown PTO dogfight with american and japanese fighters and tracers all over the place! That was intense! Thanks for hosting and teaching me things btw
Jel: Have a good one on your visit, sounds fun!
After ya`ll left, ShoGun hosted a game for me and introduced me to the game a bit more throughoutly, we ended up blasting down quite a few Fortresses with the Early plane set, that was fun too and my thanks to ShoGun for showing me a few things I didnt know! Thanks to you too for hosting and the teachings
All thats needed now is to set the WEP button and see what can be done about the weird minimize to desktop problem.

Hi guys,
what I actually did was make all default loadouts null....which turned out
to be a mess with the SBD and bombers....
I can always make the loadout null just for the fighters, but it still leaves
a quandry. We still dont know what causes the problem I'm having. (See pic above.)
Otherwise, just dropping the tanks early would be all that was necessary. Plus,
if we do a mission that would need a droptank, we would be out of luck.
The other problems are (In any scenario) being able to get torpedos online,
or just being able to change the loadout online.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
AO

I tried to start a game with J.Bullfrog today, I had my D3D Windower up and the correct EAW.exe chosen in GameRanger, even so I keep getting Game Stopped working (Windows 7) error whether I host or join a game.

(Wrote alot of stuff here thats now not the case, so I deleted it)
The problem was that I had no DLL file chosen with D3D windower, so now that I chose the D3D Windower DLL file called D3dhook.dll the EAW single player game starts successfully in windowed mode provided I have same Width and Height in the EAW.ini as in D3D Windower Settings for EAW.
However, both Bullfrog and me are still having problem launching EAW via GameRanger (Whether I turn Emulation on and off) it still wont emulate window.
UAC for Windows7 is ofcourse turned OFF

Re: flying online tonight - 03/14/11 04:48 PM
Guys,
you might have to speak to Jel about any Win 7 problems.
I know the 1.28e download does NOT include the root folder
'savedata' folder, which has the MissAli.mpf and MissAxe.mpf files,
without which you cannot launch EAW online. However, you have connected
before, so you must have these files already.
So I can only offer the usual suspects. Firewall, antivirus, and router settings.
Usually when you try a new exe, your Firewall and/or your antivirus will tell you
that it has been blocked, and ask whether you wish to unblock. But sometimes you
might have to manually add an exception to those programs.
I DID have an occurence last week where I could not launch for a few days. I came back
a few days later and am now able to connect with everyone. Still have no idea why this
happened...
AO
Posted By: RedVonHammer
Re: flying online tonight - 03/14/11 06:14 PM
Yeah I can connect with everyone, but when I launch the game via gameranger, D3D Windower wont emulate the game.
In fact, when using D3D to emulate the game, it will only emulate when I launch the game directly via D3D, not if I hit the emulate button and hit game shortcut or launch via gameranger.

Re: flying online tonight - 03/20/11 09:36 PM
Yo Pobs,
I worked on a new loadout.dat for SPAW........
I made the default loadout for all fighters empty......
this apparently is the cause of the streaming droptanks online.
You can still select a droptank for offline........
Also made the default empty for the SBD and B5N2, but when you
load 'bombs' online, you will get a bomb and a torpedo, respectively.
Unfortunately, there is a problem with the FM for the B5N2. She would
not get off a carrier loaded with a torpedo, and would list very hard
to the left. I utilized the SBD FM for the B5N2 for now.
I placed these files in a zip in my folder at the ftp. (SPAWLoadout.rar)
Just place the 2 files in your SPAW folder root and try them out.
Now I'm looking for a TBF to put into SPAW. I'm sure one can go into one
of the American slots.
Has anyone else tried the SPAW engine soundset I made? If anyone wants it,
I can put it on a slow rapidshare link. But it would be nice if someone could
host it for me. I made a CDF for it that makes using it easy. Also made a
SAW soundset, and a WWI WF soundset if anyone is interested.
Thanks,
AO

Re: flying online tonight - 03/21/11 11:35 AM
Hi AO,
for online play we really could do with a US torpedo bomber in the SPAW setup, perhaps the TBF, we could put it in one of the 'what if' slots so we could fly combined bomb/torpedo missions.
I am using both your SPAW and your WW1 soundsets, and I love them
... keep up the good work mate
cheers,
Pobs
Posted By: AngleOff
Re: flying online tonight - 03/21/11 07:59 PM
Yo Pobs!
I got the best TBF I could find....from Flying Tiger......
I put it in the SpitIX slot....replaced the Spit Vc that was there.
It was made for the SpitXIV slot, but I used MogProg to switch it.
But that may explain why I get this:
You only see this at a couple of angles.
I edited the planes.dat to get it to act right, edited the loadout.dat,
the pnames.str so it shows in the plane selection screen, and swapped
the .flt file with the SBD. (The planes.dat, I made it just a little
beefier.)
If you want to try it, I placed all in a zip in my folder at the ftp.
(SPAW TBF.rar) Just drop all of the files in your SPAW folder root.
If this works, it will need some 1024 hanger screens.

Re: flying online tonight - 03/23/11 01:45 PM
Hi all,
Pobs and I re-worked the files and placed the TBF in the Hurri slot.
(It had a MB-3 MKIIb in that slot, but I could not find any info
on it for the South Pacific Air War, so we replaced that instead of the spitVc)
She worked wonderfully in the hurri slot. There was 4 of us online last night,
me, Pobs, RedVonHammer and Maj. Alvega......and we had an excellent mission with it:
It was great to have everyone land safe!
Not so well on our second mission thou.......we went after a carrier.....
the AAA and flak blew us all out of the sky.......but not before we killed the
carrier with a couple of torpedos......
Maybe Mike might want to make us some multiskin TBF's.....The EAW Online Carrier Group...
maybe with our names on the side or something.....

Re: flying online tonight - 03/23/11 05:13 PM
Sorry for missing this post. I don't get as much EAW time as I used to
AO,
I think what you're seeing with those multiple drop tanks is a screwed up version of the napalm weapon.
The way it works is that the napalm requires either 2 or 4 weapons slots. If it's a single napalm tank it uses 2 slots and if it's a dual napalm set up it uses 4 slots.
One slot shows a drop tank which has a "hit value" of zero. The other slot has 50 or so "invisible" bombs that drop at the same time as the drop tank. Each one has a small "hit value" and there's a slight drop delay between each one. By invisible I mean that I used a 3dz file with nothing in it so it doesn't show up in the game.
When you drop the napalm you see a single ( or double ) drop tank fall away from the plane. When it hits the ground you see a series of small explosions that are meant to represent a line of napalm flame. This is the line of invisible bombs that dropped at the same time as the drop tank.
I call the drop tank "Napalm eye candy" in the loadout list.
Here's the text from the SPAW loadout list:

Re: flying online tonight - 03/24/11 01:39 PM
Hi Ray,
yes, I got the correct list....I was using the wrong one in the editor.
The streaming problem thou, was droptanks......droptanks that are default loadout.
Apparently there is an old problem in the exe (this happened with 1.2 also.)
that requires the default loadout to be empty. Something to do with the exe
automatically giving droptanks for longer distance missions.
However, this problem, so far, does not occur with bombs or torpedos.
thanks,
AO

Re: flying online tonight - 04/17/11 09:34 PM
Yo Pobs! Where were you when we needed you!???
Had some good missions with Shogun and Maj. Alvega in FAW.....
I used your list to set up a couple missions.
First we intercepted some JU-88's coming to bomb our base at Kasimovo
flying Lagg-3's:
I think I got about 7 bombers and 2 109's.....(But had to use 5 planes to get them....)
Then, from the same base, we did a sweep over Sestronetsk in La5's:
Shogun finishing off a Curtis-75:
Ground battle and carnage on the ground!
We all made it back to Kasimovo, although Shogun bounced her a little:
(Maj. went over to the hanger to re-arm......we had already been in the air
for an hour! lol!)
Good games guys!

Hi Guys,
sorry I couldn't make it last night, spent an exciting afternoon finding and digging out the mains water supply to my house, believe me I would have much rather been flying with you guys !! Still, I did get a nice mission in earlier with Shogun over Leningrad. On Saturday I managed to do a vertical loop over our home base after chasing off a Finnish Curtis75 that was harassing Shogun as he re-armed, only to complete the loop by flying my P39 straight into the roof of the only hangar and destroying it, while Shogun was re-arming in it ... bit red-faced over that
here is Shogun, working over a russian airfield north of Leningrad, yesterday.
cheers,
Pobs
edit : The 'Pobs manual for flying and surviving' (previously titled ' getting high and staying alive' until an unfortunate misunderstanding with the drug squad required a rename) has been edited so that section V, subsection IIa now reads 'In the battle zone, it is important at all times to keep a constant eye out for trouble on your six
but this does not exclude the need to also watch where the plane is actually going at regular intervals, particularly during vertical manouvres near the ground'....

Re: flying online tonight - 05/05/11 01:39 AM
Pheww, well some pretty intense action tonight over Malta. We started with a two hour marathon defending Luqa airfield from a large body of Sparvierro bombers escorted by Falcones, coming in from Comiso at around 18000 ft we had to struggle to get up to them ... we went up in pairs against them and were duly beaten up pretty thoroughly and the bombers got through and heavily cratered the airfield, but we harried them all the way Back to Sicily and took a fair toll in the end.... Then a second 2 hour mission saw us defending the Grand Harbour in Malta from a second attack by Pipistrello bombers escorted by Saettas... this time they came in low and due to repair and refuelling problems we again could only send up relatively small numbers of aircraft in waves to defend, luckily we had the support of a second spit Vb squad this time and they went out over the med to intercept the enemy and engage the covering fighters a good 50 miles off shore, our initial patrol made contact but all 4 planes were quickly disabled by return fire from the bombers, and we had to make a second scramble take off to return to the fray... we found the enemy approaching the north coast of Gozo and I bravely dived into the attack only to get an earful of fruity language from the squad leader of the supporting spit V's as I sprayed them with cannon fire !!! ooops... slightly perplexed Maj Alvega and I started a sweep over Gozo looking for the missing bombers and sure enough we found them sneaking in from the south west having passed well west of Gozo and making an overland approach to the Grand Harbour... the flak and the remaining spit vb's finally dealt with them as the Maj and I repeatedly landed and re-armed at Takali and swept back into the fray. The saettas then reappeared and patrolled vigorously over the Island and were only driven off with heavy losses after repeated attacks by the defenders.
a very intense evenings gaming I have to say, and thanks to Shogun and Maj Alvega for a great bit of fun.
S! guys.
cheers,
Pobs

Excellent post brief Pobs..Makes you realise the stress and strain the real defenders went through
Posted By: Pobs
Re: flying online tonight - 05/05/11 08:54 AM
Thanks Spitty,
we deliberately organised the defenders to be heavily outnumbered most of the time to simulate the Malta situation, by sending the AI back to base after take off and using them to respawn into, as secondary scramble missions to the initial take off team, so we were patrolling in pairs or at most single flights, and then having to deal with 15 or 20 bombers and a similar number of escorts. This worked very well and led to a series of air fights, with us attacking at intervals as we returned to base or respawned and took off in wing pairs from our base at Takali. It made for long missions with time for tactical flying which was nice. In the first game the supporting hurricanes flew a couple of patrols around the main Island, and since the enemy were still over Sicily, they landed to refuel and we were on our own after that, quite a daunting task !.... in the second mission the secondaries were a squad of Spit Vb's who flew out and engaged the saettas but only downed a couple of them before returning to Malta ( the point at which I valiantly mistook them for triple engined bombers and opened up on them before realising my mistake.... tricky to explain that one to the C.O. I have been sent on a course in aircraft recognition, to be completed asap). It was great fun, you should come and join us

Re: flying online tonight - 05/29/11 04:49 PM
It was really strange in my last game. Being so out of practice, having not played seriously for ages,I did not expect good results. However, I managed to take off, get airborne, shoot down some bombers, return to base, land safely, rearm, take off again, and get back to down a few escorts. It was all in the same plane- no respawn.
I probably flew and shot better than I have ever done, and may never achieve such heights again LOL.
Its a bit like my jazz. I'm no longer striving to play better. Instead I have vivid memories of the gigs when I know that I, or the band I was in, played really well. It's a case of been there and done that, so now I just enjoy playing, and occasionally a really good performance happens.

Kneg,
the whole point of this thread is to notify other players WHEN you are online, not much point posting afterwards to say no-one came !!!!...
If you post to say you are there people will come to find you. I usually get 2 or 3 players at a session, with such small numbers playing we need to communicate when we are available, hence this thread...
To any other onliners reading this, please feel free to post here when you are in gameranger, this thread isn't meant to be just about my games !!!....

Thanks for the game tonight Maj,
we mounted our trusty Fw190 A6's and escorted a gaggle of Ju88's to bomb a russian forward airfield at Juterbog, we were heavily engaged by La5's and Lagg3's but the bombers got through and did some serious damage, we escorted the Ju88's back over the line into friendly territory then pursued the La5's back to their base near Berlin in a Freijagd. We made a few strafing attacks on them on the ground, escaping the flak with only a leaking hydraulic pipe on my plane... a 50 Km cruise back to base and successful landings all around
... a good mission

Re: flying online tonight - 07/30/11 02:03 PM
erm,
if there is anyone watching that would like a flight, the Maj and I could certainly do with a help !! so far today we have seen the USS Saratoga disabled by a single 'Nick' getting a stick of 500lb bombs across her deck in mission 1, our counter strike ( mission2) against the Zuikako with tbf's managed to get 4 torpedoes in the water but she was protected by her close escorts and we failed to get a strike on her. The Japanese response, another strike by nicks escorted by zero's have now rendered the HMS Illustrious unusable for a further 5 missions while she is repaired after 3 bombers got through to her. We are now down to the USS Enterprise alone south of Bougainville, if we lose her, then we will have to relocate a long way east of Choiseul Island to the USS long Island.... In other words, I think we are losing at the moment

Re: flying online tonight - 08/13/11 07:17 PM
Guys,
sorry I have not been online lately.......doing alot of overtime at work,
and with what little free time I have left, I have been working on the
"sounds" folder.
Basically, this folder contains the default engine sound files 0060 thru 0119.
But it also contains 0120 thru 0179. (I deleted 0120 thru 0129 as these sounds
were very bad, and I could not find any relation to them in the FM slotxx.mpf
files) 0130 thru 0179 are mostly the Russian planes, but there is also an A20,
Blenheim, P39.......I have also added a Martlett, a couple of Hurri's, (I, II.
and III) and a new P47 and P51, so these sounds are up to 0187.
I have edited all the sounds to have a lower DB setting. I kept alot of the Russian
plane sounds that are in there, but I switched out some......and edited all of them.
The great thing about this is that any sound can be used or switched just by editing
the planes/slot/fm Soundxx.mpf file. (Pointer) It is a text file and you just
adjust the sound number:
[EngineSounds]
StartSound=130
RunSound=131
I will include a text file for all sounds so you know which is which.
Yo Pobs.....all those DAW 109 sounds........are now all my default 109's!

Re: flying online tonight - 08/14/11 09:25 AM
Hi AO,
you really have to get your life/work balance better adjusted, you just cannot go on letting real life intrude into your gaming time like this, it is unhealthy
Looking forward to hearing the new sound pack though
Hope we see you soon online when time permits, you have been sorely missed in our SPAW campaign I can tell you, the Major and I are having to ask USAAF to supply us with escorts from Kahili and Ballalae we have lost so many carriers!! the shame of it !! but the news from the Saratoga is that she should be able to fly off planes in a week or so with the field repairs completed, so we will not have to ask the army to support our raids for long....
We managed to drive off an attack from the japanese carrier based dive bombers on the USS Enterprise the other night and have decided to make our next mission target the airfield at Kieta on Bougainville. We had a little strategy session and decided the land-based Nicks from there are the most serious threat to our last remaining carrier due to their heavier bomb carrying capacity and the airbase needs neutralising before we attack the japanese carrier group again. I will let you know if it was a wise decision
see you in the air soon

Re: flying online tonight - 09/17/11 01:43 AM
Phewww,
well we completed missions 6,7,8 and 9 in our little SPAW campaign tonight and with the arrival of the F6's and with a little help from Shogun, we may be turning the corner
We opened with an attack on Kieta airfield in our sbf's supported by F6's, smallish in number due to the need to take off from a single carrier but we succeeded in putting the field out of action and destroying at least 4 aircraft on the ground but at the cost of 5 out of the original 8 bombers lost to the patrolling oscars and zeros. Confident that this had dealt with the immediate threat from the heavy land based bombers we scrambled to see off a strike by a squadron of Judy's backed by navy A6m2 zeros on the enterprise, the enemy turned back with heavy losses over Ovau Island and we felt that we had weathered the worst. News from the deck parties over on the USS Saratoga was good, she would be back in action pretty soon and we would have a second carrier for the escorts to take off from.
Our next offensive action was a torpedo attack on the IJN Ryujo, we flew tbf's with supporting F6f3's freshly arrived on the now functional USS Saratoga. We flew north over Bougainville with the fighters sweeping before us, then turned east to take up our attack positions, but we ran head first into two squadrons of zero's and took pretty heavy casualties breaking through. After a fair bit of dodging and diving Maj Alvega and I made almost simultaneous runs into the carrier and both got our torpedoes in the water and running cleanly, quite an unusual event. The twin explosions rocked the ship, one amidships on the main armour belt but the second near the stern, which must have seriously damaged her steering and aft engine rooms. One of the AI also got a solid hit amidships later too, so the Ryujo will be out of commission for a fair period and will be unable to participate for some time to come. By the end of the day we had now equalised the naval situation with two active carriers on each side
The japanese counter was not slow in coming, radar showed a major attack force flying down the east coast of Bougainville Island and our F6's were scrambled again... flying north along the east coast we bounced a flight of low flying bombers only to find they were twin engined Nicks, apparently our working over of Kieta had not totally removed the threat since they had simply relocated to Torokina airfield further north. Still it made co-ordinating the attack with the naval escorts more difficult for them and we succeeded in dispersing the bombers who retreated north. After a bitter fight with the naval zero escorts we were suddenly alerted to the presence of a whole squadron of Judy dive bombers approaching the carriers from over the main Island, having swung west from their carriers and then south to avoid us. Low on ammunition and dispersed from the fight we struggled to intercept them as they cleared the southern coast of Bougainville and swept down over Ovau island towards the USS Enterprise and her escorts. By repeated spoiling attacks we just managed to break up their formation and as some retired we mopped up the more daring enemy pilots that risked the flak to drive home their bombs, and it was very close, two D3's almost made it to the carrier, dropping burning into the water within a few hundred metres of her in attacks that bore out the determination and bravery of their pilots, but she survived.
A great night of fun for all involved, and the tactical situation is proving interesting too. We will be flying this campaign again on Sunday night (GMT), will let you know how we get on
cheers,
Pobs

Re: flying online tonight - 10/09/11 11:58 AM
Hey, just wondering.
Where did the TBF's come from? They're not in the original scenario as the lo-res model isn't to good.
Also, who made the flight model for it? Just out of curiosity as I certainly don't mind someone putting in the effort.
So, do I need to move the hi-res TBF model up the priority list?
And will Iron Mike be willing to do the skinning if I do?
Posted By: AngleOff
Re: flying online tonight - 10/09/11 01:26 PM
3DZ's and TPC's for TBF-1 Avenger (by Flying Tiger)
for hurri slot.
Engine sound files. (snd0078.snd and snd0079.snd)
LOADOUT.DAT (Edited for torpedos and empty default.)
PLANES.DAT (Edited for TBF.)
PNAMES.STR (Edited to show in plane selection screen.)
hurr.FLT (Edited for TBF.)
Hi Ray,
I got the .flt file from the TBF made by Ade and modded by you
for OAW. We had to put it in the Hurri slot because the original
plane there was a 'what-if.' That was the best skin I could find
at the time. For my own install, I also had to switch out the .flt
file for the Japaneze B5N2 Kate as it listed very bad to the left
(More than your stick could compensate for.) and also would not take-off
from a carrier with a loadout. I switched it out with the same .flt file as
the TBF.
I think Jel made the final loadout.dat that we use....some of us might even have
different skins that we use......and there are only 4-5 of us onliners that have
this.
I believe that someone mentioned that we need a TBD too.
For online, SPAW is my favorite mod, as it requires us to return and land on a carrier
to complete our missions.

Okay, just wondering. Glad you're all having fun with it.
Hopefully, we'll get the original SPAW included in the install package by Jel for offline players.
Do you have an engine sound pack that you use for SPAW. If so, is it something you can offer to the community, or have you done so and I missed it?

Ralf and I are about to fly to test his version 06 - and whether or not my set-up still works.
He is finishing dinner, so whilst he is eating here is a plea from me.
Daylight saving has ended here and in the US so let's get some good games running again.
Pobs, Ralf, Maj A, myself and maybe a few more are within an hour as far as as time zones go. The European evening is more or less the US afternoon, so it is a reasonable time to have Shogun, AO, IM and others here too, including the South Americans. I d not know who is still participating in the Antipodes- I ave not heard from BPNZ for a while.

Hi Guys, still alive and watching with interest.
I'm using my wife's old computer to post this as my main computer is still not working after many months - freezes soon after entering Windows. This is even after I repaired XP.
I think there is a driver missing or something and I can't find the disks after moving house. I've almost given up really.
Real life is busy anyway (Rebekah is over 1 year old now) and it would be hard to find much time to fly, especially mornings on this side.
I don't think anyone else in the South Pacific is flying online.
If I can get my comp going I could probably fly online once a week on say Saturday mornings (your evening).

Hehehe Maj,
I knitted myself a jumper waiting to get to the target in those Ju87's, it might have been quicker to walk !!
I put our success down to the extensive Luftwaffe training regime, which last night included bombing one of our own airfields before setting out to attack the enemy... excellent planning I thought !
I thought the 109's looked nice in their winter livery as they escorted us
On the first mission of the evening we carried out an interdiction near Wavelghem in Jugs... armed for bear and looking very business like..
Thanks for the games major, was a fun evening

Re: flying online tonight - 11/30/11 09:10 AM
Thanks for the game Maj
,
well we managed to fit in mission 10 of our SPAW campaign last night, after some discussion regarding the relocation of the 'Kieta' based 'Nicks' to 'Torokina' in the west after our successful visit to their previous base, and the nasty surprise they gave us when they turned up over the carriers. We decided to leave them for another day and we launched a torpedo attack on the japanese carrier Zuikaku. We flew TBF's from the USS Saratoga and were supported by F6's from the USS Enterprise. We were met south east of Bougainville Island by A5m2's from the CAP of both the IJN Zuikaku and IJN Shokaku but their attack was broken up by the F6's and the few that got through to us did relatively little damage although one of my wingmen was taken out by a kamikaze attack that saw both planes explode in a fireball. The flak defences were wide awake as we came in low, slow and flying in a straight line and we suffered accordingly. I had the frustration of successfully releasing my torpedo only to be shot down and crash landing on top of it moments later !
The attack saw a single torpedo hit on the Zuikaku and one of her Flak cruisers sunk for the loss of 8 TBF's with only 4 returning to the carrier. We shall see over the next few days whether our decision to attack the carriers and ignore the threat from the 'Nicks' based onshore at Torokina was a good one. We are now bracing ourselves for the inevitable Japanese counter attack.
Oh, and reconn tell us that the Zuikaku is undergoing field repairs to some buckled deck plates and will be back in commission pretty soon, so only a short respite for us to compensate for our losses.
cheers,

Re: flying online tonight - 12/03/11 10:26 AM
Hi Maj,
yup great fun again last night
thanks mate
we withstood the counter strike after our partial success against the Zuikaku last night, a strike by IJA Betty aircraft from Torokino airbase supported by zeros from the Shokako. We flew a CAP in our F6's over the carriers while the F6's from the USS Enterprise flew out to meet the attack, but failed to find them and returned just prior to the attack. The bombers were broken up and all 16 destroyed for the loss of 4 F6's from our squadron.
We then had to decide whether to attack the carriers again or to try to neutralise Torokino to reduce the risk from the heavy bombers based there. It was decided to make a second strike on the Zuikako to try to inflict more serious damage before she could be brought back into action. Since the Ryojo is still seriously damaged and can't fly off planes the CAP for the whole carrier group had to be supplied by the Shokako and land based army planes from Torokino.
Our strike with SBD's with 500lb bombs managed to avoid the CAP and we scored 2 direct hits on the Zuikako's flight deck, causing significant damage which will see her out of action for quite a while. So the Shokako is now a lone carrier looking very vulnerable until Kieta airfield can be brought back into operation to support her.
cheers,
Pobs

Re: flying online tonight - 07/31/12 10:03 PM
Blue,
a bit of confusion crept in here regarding teamspeak and gameranger... Gameranger is always up, all you need is the client software and open a room when you go in so people can see you on the gamelist. Teamspeak needs to operate through a server , and as Jell says we use Shoguns at the address jell has given and I have added to the first post in this thread ( in answer to Brit44's request).
When you first join gameranger you dont know other peoples names or log in details so until you can populate a 'friends' list with their details you can't see if they are online or not unless they open a game room, so when we go online we try to open a gameroom asap so new players can see us by watching the game list in the gameranger main window... look out for eaw games....
cheers,
Pobs

Pobs!
I have a V21 which allows a carrier take off again
We can test it tomorrow if you are able to.
Jel

Re: flying online tonight - 08/12/12 11:28 AM
Version 21 is here to use online.
1.28E Version 21 Installer The carrier take off is fixed and the exe appears to work with the stock "DirSet Picker" scenarios.
Run the 7-zip self installer in your EAW folder.
It will replace two CDF files with extended versions fully compatible with earlier 1.28E exes, but containing default files that V21 needs.
It will put an "E 128EV21" folder in your "OAW128" folder, and also a "G-BigHill" folder.
"G-BigHill" is a test folder for ETO01 with some extra railway tracks, and TMods with numbers bigger than 255 near the Biggin Hill base.

Re: flying online tonight - 08/13/12 09:23 AM
I flew briefly with BBG last night but he got kicked just before we contacted the enemy
I think V21 should now be the online standard.
I have made a new link in my signature to a simple page for downloads, including the V21.
Heading out to a seafood lunch at Marseillan with "She who must be obeyed even more than She who must be obeyed" and "She who must be obeyed", but that is far preferable to painting

THX!!! Shogun for the fly!!!
were many minutes in our Hurris fighting against the 190a3 and 109f2, and helped us some P 40 over the Channel.
We could not fly in the first attempt with version 1.28f because Shogun told me that when the brakes are applied with the keyboard kicked out of the server ... then switched to the 1.23E version 21 with the ETO01 loaded and it worked like a champ.
I dont know if accidentally pressing the "q" key in the keyboard but the game then finished... no matter.. we had flown a lot of good.
THX guys!!! for working so hard for this wonderful sim.

Re: flying online tonight - 08/16/12 03:18 AM
It's a shame that those that fly online are in so many different countries, it would be good to get all in at the same time.
I generally get online to fly at 9:00PM adelaide, Australia time which is about lunch time in France and England, not too sure what time it would be in the States...
Blue
Just checked it out online, the states are about 15.5 hrs behind me on average. Obviosly there are time zones within the states as well..

Re: flying online tonight - 08/17/12 05:00 PM
I will be opening a room shortly.
Please check the "My EAW links" in my signature.
The last link on the page you see is a 1.28E and 1.28F combined upgrade.
The 7-zip self installer should be run in your EAW 1.28E folder. It will
* replace three CDF files with extended versions fully compatible with earlier versions of 1.28E.
* give you an OAW128 folder with "E" folders containing the 1.28EV21 and 1.28FV13A, plus a few more novelties.
* add a "EAWTM2" folder needed by 1.28F containing a file which is read by the 1.28F exe for bump tile mapping.
* update the "DirDet Picker" scenarios for those who have them for:
DAW128E
FAW128EBeta1
Malta128E
ModSquadBoB128E
SAW128E
SPAW
SWOTL
These updates install additional files into the scenario folders which are needed by 1.28E and 1.28F.
1.28FV13A has the planes.dat bug fixed
V13 was crashing if it read a "planes.dat" file, so that routine has been disabled in V13A. It now reads the split "planes.dat" files, "plane00.dat"...."plane29.dat". In the update these split files are added to the scenarios listed where needed.
ETO01 and FAW128Beta1 already have them.
OK- off to open a room

Re: flying online tonight - 08/21/12 05:06 PM
Jel has just fixed another problem, but this one was one of his own creation.
In the 1.28E/F upgrade the SPAW upgrade was wrong. In the upgrade pack I had made a SPAW folder with a SPAW45 folder in it.
I should have named it SPAW1945 and not SPAW45.
When you ran the self installer it put a SPAW45 folder in your SPAW folder, containing the "PLANE00.DAT" ...."PLANE29.DAT" files which 1.28FV13A is meant to read. However, the SPAW45 and SPAW45 OL files in the DirSets folder do not reference this folder, so they are not being read.
What you need to do is to cut the "PLANE00.DAT" ...."PLANE29.DAT" files from SPAW45 and paste them into SPAW1945. Then you can trash the SPAW45 folder.
To avoid future problems I have replaced the 1.28E/F upgrade from Dropbox with a corrected one.
Jel

Re: flying online tonight - 08/21/12 06:51 PM
But this should only affect SPAW1945, and not SPAW, right?
AO

Re: flying online tonight - 08/21/12 07:36 PM
Yes
Just out of interest I made a new SPAW set-up this afternoon with a 1.28E/F SPAW Planes folder, most of the other SPAW stuff and four Planesets. These are SPAW offline, SPAW online, SPAW45 offline and SPAW45 online.
It is working fine, and I have copied and pasted two of the planesets into other scenarios. I can now fly either SPAW of SPAW45 planes in my old three islands scenario, and also DAW and ETO01. This is just an experiment to confirm the possibilities of the planeset system. Each planeset having its own "savedata" folder solves the problem that Blue encountered when he switched to SPAW offline from SPAW online using the current folders.

Re: flying online tonight - 08/21/12 08:37 PM
Hey, just out of curiosity, what's it like flying those 1945-46 planes. I never got to do much flying after I put that add-on together since that's around when my wife went into her final decline.
Anyone use the planes with contra-rotating props?
Since they're actually twin engine planes I had suggested in the readme that a special .ini file be used when flying them where both engines use the same start/stop key.

I used the Target Editor to make an EAW_RRD.DAT for DAW, and fixed the TMods at HMS Illustrious and HMS Ark Royal.
Then I took two unused targets and added them with the HMS Ark Royal TMods to the North African coast within allied lines to create two more target/bases for the Allies to fly from and the Axis to attack.
The targets I used were Amiens and Anklam
For the game I re-named them as HMS Improbable and HMS Impossible

Hi guys,
Just a small suggestion: as you may know, SimHQ has a TS3 Server up for his members (you can check out at SimHQ homepage) and a dedicated room (like DCS, RoF and others) for EAW onliners would be great to check out who is online and much more easier to chat with new members who are just starting now. I know we have Shogunīs TS server but a TS channel at SimHQ would be much easier in my opinion, I do not know if is possible but I though it would be a good idea. Sorry my bad english!

Maybe someone else can.
About TS3, EAW community does not have any dedicated room at SimHQ's TS3 but if you are a logged member you can access any game room at SimHQ's TS3.
Do not forget to post here that you have a game room open so other players can join you. Hope to see you soon online.

Re: flying online tonight - 02/12/13 10:45 AM
I do not remember exactly what I did in GameRanger to configure EAW but first you will have to go to Games and pick up European Air War from the list of games avaiable; then at the Browser option you will have to point Gameranger to your EAW.exe in your root folder . Canīt remember but I think it's all you have to do. Then just Host a game to check out if everything is fine. Hope it helps.

Re: flying online tonight - 02/12/13 08:20 PM
Ralf made it more difficult to leave a session because occasionally a player would hit the Esc key in mistake for the chat key and pause the game for everyone. However, it should only need 5 seconds. I will have a look at the code and see if I can speed it up.

I misunderstood your question! sorry Agathos..
Posted By: Pobs
Re: flying online tonight - 02/13/13 09:49 AM
Hi Jell,
I exaggerated when I said 30 seconds
... but the point is that most newbies to the 1.28 series don't hold it down long enough and so can't get out of the game... once you realise that it will work if you keep it held down, it isn't really a problem, and all us 'onliners' know that the problem of the 'radio chat pause' induced by the hitting the esc button, was a nuisance
, so Ralf's idea was certainly well-founded.
cheers,
Pobs

Re: flying online tonight - 02/23/13 01:05 AM
Hi Trin,
was good flying again with you Major
The first mission was a straight forward intercept, 303 sq spit 1's from Lympne against heinkels escorted by 109E4's heading for Foreness, the 109 escorts bounced us and we lost 6 with ultimately 5 heinkels being brought down, several by the supporting hurricane squadron.....
the second mission was again 303 sq spit 1's from Lympne, but escorting blenheims attacking Boulogne, we failed to meet them at the designated waypoint and they proceeded without us as far as the middle of the channel, but as soon as they sighted the patrolling 109's sent up from the Pas de Calais airfields they swung west along the channel and aborted the mission, heading back for England with their tails firmly between their legs, in the ensuing melee we brought down 5 or 6 109's before returning home to a pretty hostile reception from the station commander for failing to meet the bombers.... oooops....
cheers,
Pobs

Re: flying online tonight - 02/23/13 03:29 PM
Just giving notice that I have been re-jigging my PC and laptop today to get a good online set-up.
By far the best framerates are with my laptop running Vista and using my 1920x1080 monitor, with Glide as unfortunately d3d has no horizon fog. I have been flying at Gameranger this afternoon in a host only session with 1.28FV32 and it worked well.
I'll make a 1.28FV32 download available, with support files if needed, and post a link in this thread.
It would be nice to have a session tomorrow, European time.

Re: flying online tonight - 02/26/13 11:08 AM
I have spent some time investigating and for the time being I need to compromise.
My desktop PC runs Windows 8, and in d3d I am getting poor frame rates. Apparently this may be due to the current drivers from both ATI and nVidia being rushed revamps of their Win 7 versions, and not built to use some of the graphics changes that are in Win 8. The frame rates in Win 7 were better. I get much better rates in Win 8 if I use the d3d windower, running in 1280x960 on my 1920x1080 screen. The problem is that with both Win 7 and Win 8 it is impossible to set EAW as the application with the blue flag, so that when it is launched from outside of the windower it runs in a window. This means that a launch from Gameranger runs in full screen with unacceptable frame rates.
So I hooked my Vista laptop up to the monitor, and it runs brilliantly. Good frame rates even in full screen. The disadvantage is that the nVidia driver does not give horizon fog, so I either put up with that or run in Glide.
So, later this afternoon I will upload and post a link to the 1.28FV32 install so that we can test it online. I will keep logging on at GameRanger, and hopefully we can get some flying done.

The file is a 7-zip self installer to be run in your EAW folder:
http://www.users.on.net/pam_biddell/EAWDL2012/128F32UG.exeIt installs the "DirSets" folder and the "EAW Versions" folder for use with the "DirSetExeManager.exe" program which is also included.
The file in the "EAW Versions" folder is naned "1.28FV32_Win8C01_2013" and it is a renamed version of the 128FV32 exe for loading by the "DirSetExeManager.exe".
There are two files in the "DirSets" folder: "ETO01" and "ETOBargeTrain".
When the latter is loaded by the "DirSetExeManager.exe" program a sub folder in the "ETO_01" folder named "Train-Barge3" is referenced.
This contains some experimental railway and barge stuff just for checking out, and is included in the "ETO01" folder when the installer runs. I am assuming that people upgrading already have a "ETO01" folder.
There is another version of the V32 exe in the "OAW128" folder in the "E-128FV32W8C" folder set up for OAW128 users.
In case they are missing or out of date the installer will replace the DATA, TERRAIN, and TEXT_ENG.CDF files with the current extended ones. It will also add the "EAWTM2" folder needed by 1.28F.
Users may already have a lot of this stuff, but it was easier to make a download with all the essential files and folders.
I would really like to try V32 online soon

Re: flying online tonight - 10/20/13 03:42 AM
I just checked this thread and the last post before this was on 17th April.
As the northern hemisphere winter is approaching I hope we can revive the sessions we have enjoyed at GameRanger.
Surely it is time that we called a halt to modding and programming so that we can do what EAW was made for and actually play it.
I have a version of the EAW exe which needs to be tested online, and I also need to make sure that my "ETO_01" and "Planes" folders are still OK to use online. I may have inadvertently made changes to them for offline play which cause problems with online compatibility.
Please PM me to get the new exe (EAW1.29 FlexMap V19) and the extended CDF files that it needs, and then we can organise some more good sessions

Re: flying online tonight - 11/05/13 09:02 PM
Thanks for the games guys
We flew with Planeset 2 which has some of Roller's FMs.
He has not yet done this Camel- it is a little too fast
However, that did not detract from the fun as I took on the Dreidekkers whilst Trin took on the Gothas.

Re: flying online tonight - 11/08/13 06:55 PM
Good games
This map is of course mythical, and entire places have been shifted to give plenty of targets and bases close to the mythical front line. This is just to give onliners a bit of fun, with groundstarted missions.
That's what we just did
Second mission tonight- a sweep after an intercept:
Returned home safely
Did a bit of damage

I will open a room anyway as soon as I have made this post. I will also log onto Sho's TeamSpeak server.
If anyone comes in, and I do not appear to be around please be patient as I may have just gone downstairs to eat or to make a coffee
I do not normally open a room and leave it open when I have gone to bed

I guess it took longer than you hoped
I'll try to have a room open every evening here for the next few days.
Maybe I should do an early morning shift to cover the US evenings?
There is a 6 hour difference between here and US Eastern.
