Bobby Hull, RIP - 01/30/23 04:12 PM
A true hockey icon. Rest in Piece.
Old school off season training.
P.S. Yes he was a little controversial at times.
LINK. Saying Hitler had some good ideas was not his smartest move.

He was my icon growing up and playing hockey. Mind you, I grew up with Chelios (before he became a traitor), Roenick, Larmer, Belfour, and Amonte were in their prime. Despite all those great players, I had Bobby Hull's name taped to the back of my skates and number 9s on each one. I still have an autographed picture of him hanging in my office. I read a few books about him as well, but my father telling me all about Hull, Makita, Vassco, and Hall (Mr. Goalie), drew me in to learning about him. One thing that doesn't get reported on for Hull, at least I haven't seen it on any major news source, is he still holds the record for fastest slap shot at over 116 mph. That is with an old, all wood stick too. Imagine how fast it would be with these new composite sticks.
I didn't learn about how Hull was a terrible person off the ice and fairly recently. It makes it hard to have his picture still hanging on my wall. I'm trying to separate the Hull the hockey player from Hull the wife beater and racist, but its difficult. I suppose I can always replace him with Makita who was always a class act.
Lets Go Hawks!

Found this online. Talk about putting a massive foot in your mouth.
In 1998, Hull allegedly made pro-Nazi comments to The Moscow Times. He was quoted as saying, "Hitler, for example, had some good ideas. He just went a little bit too far."[16] Hull later denied having complimented Hitler and said journalists had raised the subject.[17] The incident was parodied on the Canadian news satire show This Hour Has 22 Minutes, with Rick Mercer reading a spot saying Hull had been misquoted, and had actually said, "Sittler had some good ideas."

Except there is apparently no evidence that he actually said what is claimed, just a "journalists" word vs his.

No, there is no audio or video recording of his comments but the circumstantial evidence is quite compelling especially with comments made by his daughter as mentioned here:

I was not a Black Hawks fan but remember the Bobby Hull era quite clearly. Pretty much ALL hockey players and coaches of the time would make a modern "progressive" cringe or turn in to screaming maniac. Hull was about as pro-Nazi and any hard line "anti-commie" of the day. He was 'larger than life' and the pres did what they could to sensationalize everything about him

I don't know the guy, had never heard of him prior to this post, but I also don't give a lot of credence to the testimony/opinions of disgruntled family members.
My threshold for ruining someones reputation is actual, factual, proven evidence.

Hockey legend to me. Period. People can say stupid things when they are drinking. Context.
I had no Idea he had 116 mph slapshot with a wooden stick. Unbelievable. Today sticks basically use golf club like tech. Everyone has a hard shot now.

There is plenty of evidence and facts about him beating multiple wives. One them was beaten so bad that she thought she was going to die. He threw her over his shoulder and held her over a balcony in a hotel room in Hawaii. There is also a police report for another instance when they arrived on the scene after he beat the crap out of his wife and he then assaulted a police officer as well. Doesn't get much more clear cut than that.
As I said, Stan Makita didn't do stuff like this, and he had more points.

Actually watched the man play and helped beat the Bruins in the old Boston Garden in the early 60's. Don't remember much, except booing when he scored.
The man could skate and shoot. All this other garbage are just accusations against against a dead man unable to defend himself.

Nice. The game may be a lot faster now, but that does not mean better. I prefer when you had to answer the bell after a cheap shot. The NHL is more concerned about how woke they appear, than anything these days.
