Seems I'm hardly British at all.
Not heard of or sampled the majority of these which are mainly rural regional dishes, many of which have fallen into disuse. And many of them, especially the innuendo laden, are fictitious.

Bit of a mix according to that.

Fish'n'chips, toad in tha hole, scotch eggs, bubble'n'squeak. We've got one shop down the road that does wicked scotch eggs, put onto it by me pommie mates. I'll always rate pommie food, good tucker a lot of it. Pommie slang also, top tier.

On a related note, I DO want to try Yorkshire Pudding at some point while I'm still alive.

I have only tried 5 so it's complete nonsense. I'm as British as they come.

I can't help but think that Dick's Surprise and Jizzy Cobbler are served together.

I'm zero percent British, except I have eaten corn.

However, I talk like I'm British, using their phrasing. Not the accent, just the way the words are put together. Americans have nothing on the Brits when it comes to the turn of a phrase.

What is Britain's favorite higher selling beer, Archie? In USA it's Bud Light.

Just go with the next most popular ones on the list like,
Miller Lite.
Michelob Ultra.
Coors.
Corona.
Heineken.
Natural Light.
Busch.

Nevermind, just drink whiskey or go sober.

Bruce Dickinson agrees with you. He took a shot at Budweiser Outdoor Stage in Toronto 27:35.

48:35 was my favorite song of the night. A bit of a Spinal Tap moment when Bruce's flamethrower was just spewing fuel haha.

When I drank it was Carlsberg. 1. because I liked it, and 2. I could tell if somebody stole my beer at parties. Everyone drank Molson Canadian or Labatt's Blue.

Just make sure you get the beef dripping nice and hot before you chuck the batter in. (Blimey, sounds a bit rude)

LOL! Thanks for the sage advice. I'm not a cook so I'm sure I'll be having Yorkshire Pudding at a restaurant.

Not where I live, and this is pretty funny, where I live is old, conservative, and white. Gun/Truck/Beard town for sure. And I can't count how many times I've got into conversations about various craft beers while buying beer here...

Yet it's also simultaneously old, conservative, white towns all over America that are responsible for something like Bud Light being the #1 seller in America - go figure...

California conservatives are just ahead of the rest of the country when it comes to beer lol!

Re: How British are you. - 01/27/23 01:00 PM

I am old enough & British enough to prefer ales to lager style beer.
However, Carling is probably the UK's favourite beer depending upon how you measure it (by volume, by value, in retail or in the "on" trade).

BD-123 don't forget the cheese on the chips'n'gravy!

Aah memories, standing in a freezing cold warehouse for a mid winter car auction sometime in the 1970's, tray of chips and gravy in hand. Hoping to spend rather less than £100 on a car to last the next few months.

I was curious so I looked up "bubble & squeak". The Spanish definitely have their own version of this which they call a "tortilla" which is NOT to be confused with the Mexican food "tortilla".

Re: How British are you. - 01/30/23 01:23 PM

It's an excellent way to use up left over veg, however in the past I've cooked various veg just so I can make B&S out of it the next day.

I prefer mine 'chunky'. That is I chop the veg into small pieces. My sister-in-law makes it more like a 'pattie' which is ok but my dad made it that way and that's what I do. He would have cold meat left over from the Sunday lunch with it. My dad was a wizard in the kitchen. I miss those Sunday lunches frown Great food and good company.

Chip butties are magnificent, especially if battered orange chips. Do you get battered chips up North? Might be a game changer was to where I live biggrin

You reminded me of a funny incident I had at a restaurant when I lived in Texas. Apparently this restaurant has a reputation for really good catfish and I asked the waitress if they offered it "blackened" style and she looked at me like I was some kind of alien and then told me that everyone she knows eats their catfish fried. LOL
