The USFL - 07/02/22 04:13 PM

This is some of the best football I've ever seen! Obviously, this new league needs a little tweaking, (well, maybe a lot) but, all the games I've watched have been freaking awesome!

I can't say I've had the same experience. I watched every game at the start of the season, but stopped after a few weeks. I found the worst NFL game more entertaining than the best USFL offering. The easy missed plays. I did find some interesting changes they made to the USFL and hope that they might be adopted in the NFL, such as the kickoff point and shorter play clocks. The point-after variety was also interesting. There may be too many options, but it certainly can keep a game closer with more desperation possibilities. The automatic ball placement, according to computer-calcuated position, seems to be a non-starter, since it needs to be done in coordination with the knee/arm/other body part hitting the ground. I would gauge the USFL on the same level as lower college conferences. YMMV.

Hmmm...I didn't mention anything about the NFL but, we'll go with it.

Fair enough but, the NFL can learn a lot from this infancy league. Which raises the question: "Why does it take something like this to show the NFL the way to more excitement?" The NFL has become sooo boring over the last few years that I can barely watch it. The USFL is such a refreshing change from the NFL but, like I said: "It will require some tweaking."

USA Baby!

How did you find the drone coverage and constantly live microphones?

I found the drones mostly annoying with their fuzzy images. Constantly zipping around the field might interest youngsters, but I thought them mostly a distraction. The live mics might add colour and flavour for those who actually played the game, but I felt that most of the audio feed was nothing more than extraneous noise.

I do agree that the plodding nature of NFL games makes them only watchable (for me) if I use the skip/Ffwd buttons. When doing so, I can watch an entire match in 40-45 minutes. biggrin

I love everything about the broadcast, especially the live miked players and coaches and, yes, I love that drone cam! Whoever is flying that thing got mad skills!

The Championship Game is on tonight on FOX at 7:30 PM EST. Check it out!
