As someone that never served, I appreciate greatly those that have. I salute you all and say THANK YOU.

This is an article about an area and the high school I spent a year attending. From this area, 472 didn't come home from WW2. One of them was a Dam Buster pilot and another was part of the Great Escape.

KK I salute all Veterans who have known war from all countries and salute those in your post.They stood tall.

Happy Veterans Day folks.

My biggest challenge today is to not eat too much free food. So many places, while many formerly gave discounts it's free meals now.

For me it's gonna be Sonny's BBQ pulled pork sandwich for lunch and probably a New York strip for dinner.

I never could serve, but I'm thankful as heck for those who have. Hats off and respect.

Same with me. When I was in college I was seriously considering a naval officer career and visited a recruiting office but as soon as I told them about my open heart surgery in 1981 I was told that I was ineligible for military service.

Wow, very young to have open heart surgery Panzer. How is you heart since then ?

I've been 100% healthy since the surgery and thanks for asking! I had what is called an "atrial septal defect" which is essentially a heart murmur. In most cases, the small hole closes automatically during early childhood but in my case it did not so my parents had the surgery done when I was 9 years old.

Good thing it was detected. Glad to hear you are symptom free since then.
