Games that should be adapted to tv or film

Games that should be adapted to tv or film - 07/23/21 05:55 PM

I have to say that I am really surprised that the Mass Effect games have not been made into a series or a film. ME has an epic "space opera" storyline and it has very well written and interesting characters.

The same goes for the Half Life games. I think those could be adapted into a very good series or film assuming the right people are involved.

ME starts strong with game one. I liked this game a lot.

Game two also starts strong, but falls apart in the last hour of gameplay. We have an epic intro. A fantastic build-up. Wonderful character development, and a profound sense of dread and urgency that we must recruit all of the best to fight the biggest challenge imaginable.

Then we warp to wherever the "pure concentrated evil" is, to borrow a phrase from "Time Bandits," one of the greatest films made, and once we arrive we are confounded by the lack of...

a) Frenetic, desperate struggle against all powerful evil
b) Magicks from the girl character modeled after some model whom uses a special shield shell to protect us
c) The pure concentrated evil turns out to be a gigantic T-1000 that is ridiculously easy to defeat

When the smoke clears and we sift through the pieces as they lay, what dawns upon us is that the entire journey to build up a competent crew was for naught. All we needed was three or four mates and problem solved, we'd be back home in time for tea or football or a game of minecraft.

ME 2 was one of the most anticlimactic games I have ever played. They screwed the pooch on this game.

I never bothered with the third.

The second game was as if the writers handcrafted a brilliant world and submitted the finished product to the editors, whom stitched together a masterpiece only to have the resultant work butchered by a committee of executives who overrode all artistic decisions and injected a prescribed mold of kiddie dung that would sell tickets to the mind-numb drooling masses.

I would not want Mass Effect adopted to the screen until they correct this abomination of screwing the pooch with the second game.

I agree, both of those could make for some good adaptations.
Here's some suggestions in no particular order:
Payday, It would be a dumb, fun 80s crime/heist action.
Fallout
Kingdom Come Deliverance
Mechwarrior
Red Faction

I would definitely watch that. Of course us Stalker fans know that the games themselves are loosely based on the Soviet-era film from the 70's.

So you want to adapt a football computer game into a film or series?

There actually was a S.T.A.L.K.E.R. T.V. series planned, but it was cancelled when the original GSC Game World went under.

That list is trash because Final Fantasy should be one of the worst on the list, not best.

Mortal Kombat The Movie is far better.

Edit: I didn't realize that Annihilation was the sequel. I never saw Annihilation, only the first film, which wasn't that bad.

Final Fantasy was an awful movie.

First a sequel PC game and then a tv series based on Crimson Skies! Swashbuckling, alternative universe real locations and history, golden age of aviation but fancified a bit.

Likewise, a deserved sequel game first and then series based on The Order:1886. Victorian Era but technology is already decades advanced. Weapons are grounded in reality, many still practical and conventional weapons like auto-loading shotguns but then there are arc weapons and flame igniting weapons and high tech grenades. The Order is made up of individuals who over the centuries inherit the titles and mantles of the original knights of Arthur's round table who through use of the mysterious black liquid can extend life and heal to battle Britain's most ancient foe, the lycan. In the game not unlike Q in the 007 world, a young Tesla is the one responsible for developing weapons and gadgets for the order.

A little more obscure, Betrayer. An unknown sailor or pilgrim washes ashore colonial era America and is met by a mysterious red cloaked girl leaving him messages attached to fired arrows. Character proceeds to explore and black and white world contrasted with red at times to investigate mysteries at colonies and forts, having to ring a bell and go into a nether world to unravel mysteries and battle ghostly Indians and Spanish soldiers.

A good maritime, age of sail series but I'm not sure what to be based off of.

Hidden and Dangerous. A series centered around historic exploits of British commandos during WW2 and the formation of the SAS.

Alan Wake

L.A. Noir

Crimson skies, man that would be so much fun, both as a game and movie/tv show.

The Uncharted series from Sony, Naughty Dog. They could make a great series imo.

Never mind. Looks like they are already on it. LINK

How on earth hasn't Half-Life not been mentioned!

I'd like to see a Ghost Recon film done properly too.

The first Deus Ex would be good too, if made not to rip off Blade Runner.

Ah sorry - skip read as was on mobile. I would like to say great minds think alike! But it is a mystery to me how Half-Life hasn't been developed yet lesser games have been.

The Last of Us is supposed to get a series, and Cyberpunk 2077 a movie, but both have been delayed by Covid.

I'm not sure how I feel about a Cyberpunk movie considering how controversial the game was, and TLOU might be a bit too woke for some.

.

To be perfectly honest, something already came out which is very similar to Cyberpunk in both theme and setting: Altered Carbon.
