Will HBO achieve "lightning in a bottle" again with this prequel series? I'd say right now it's really anyone's guess but I have high hopes.

I had never heard of the books when GoT first came out, and I had no idea it was set in a complete fantasy world. I started watching it and enjoyed it, and continued to enjoy it after I found out that it wasn't just set in medieval times. I started getting burnt out on all of the major character deaths, though, and lost interest because a lot of the characters I liked were gone, and I figured it would just keep going. I think I stopped watching after the 3rd or 4th season.

Early on, my girlfriend came over while I was watching it and of course one of the really racy sex scenes was on and she gave me a hard time because she thought that's why I was watching it. What's funny is that she sat down to watch it with me and really got into the story, made me start it over on On-Demand, bought and read all the books, and watched it all the way through on her own after I gave up on it. I will have to let her know that this is coming (along with winter, of course).

I'm surprised there has only been one response so far in this thread. Either interest in Game of Thrones really has plummeted due to the lackluster series finale or activity on SimHQ has indeed declined precipitously.

Regarding the GOT books, I also had no idea about their existence until after I had started watching the series but that is the case with 95% of the shows I've watched anyway. biggrin

GoT was a huge time investment for me to make, especially when my interest can wane at the drop of a hat and move onto something else. However I was hooked very early on and I personally didn't have a problem with the finale.

I'll certainly be keeping an eye on the prequel. The only other recent drama series that had me engrossed from beginning to the end was 'The Handmaid's Tale'.

Concerning recent shows, I have to say that "The Mandalorian" completely blew away all of my expectations. I am impressed with the quality of the writing on that show. I've also been hearing great things about "For All Mankind" which is on Apple's streaming service so I may check it out.

I am sure everyone will watch it...but i think the last 2 seasons of Game of Thrones (where they went ahead of the books and turned it into a mess) did leave a bad taste for everyone

I watched one episode of GOT. When I realized the guy was doggy styling his sister, I punched out.
Mind you, it was going to be a tough sell for me anyway, I'm not a big fantasy fan. I gave into the hype.

You are absolutely correct on both points.
