He packed more than most into 97 years and survived it all.
Guess he can pay Ridley back with a stick of Beeman’s now.
RIP, Sir!

From 'Chuck Yeager's Air Combat' 1991. My first foray into virtual air combat.

I don't know what the president, governor or anyone else may order but my flag at my house is at half staff.

No doubt that Yeager was one of the greatest pilots of all time, but what impressed me most about him was his devotion to duty. His attitude toward flying the X-1, when others were asking for large amounts of money to do so, was that "The Air Force already pays me".

A great life and well lived. Thank you for your service to this nation. God bless the man and be with his loved ones that he goes on before.
"Is that a man?" "Yeah...you're #%&*$# right it is."

Yeah, he flew one of our F-15s back in '83ish (Luke AFB). He was nice to chat with...

FYI
Brig Gen Robert Cardenas, who piloted the B-29 which took aloft Yeagers X-1, is the last living member of the immediate team involved. He turned 100 years old in March 2020.

If you ever get a chance to see how small and thin the X-1 is in person, you will get a notion of the kind of nerve it takes to fly it into the unknown.
Chuck Yeager had titanium in his spine.
The Right Stuff indeed.
Rest in Peace Sir.

15 years ago he would have collected some 10 pages within his goodbye-thread.
Sad how times are changing.
A true hero.
S! and RIP from Germany

Such lengthy threads are now reserved for guitar players, actors, sports figures etc.

This is mostly due to two things. SimHQ 15 years ago was a lot busier/active than it is now and younger generations aren't nearly as familiar (if at all) with Chuck Yeager as prior generations.
