Mechwarrior 5, I’m finally in the mood to game again. Some RDR2 as well. Both a blast in co-op!

Videos of MSFS 2020!

But in seriousness, all I do anymore gaming-wise is an old car racing sim/game (Netkar, by myself), GP Bikes (by PiBoSo, shameless plug, if you like motorcycles and simulations you want this), and various pinball simulators/emulators I have.

MSFS (and other flightsims) were my only personal justification for building gaming PC's. But MSFS was the "anchor store" in that "mall" - without that I just kind of stopped going...

MSFS 2020 is going to make me get back into the higher end, and THAT is going to get me checking out some other games I've missed out on over recent years...

Supreme Commander online via faforever.com . Why play new stuff when old stuff is fun enough? I fall asleep playing most everything else, but Supreme Commander is mentally demanding and engaging when playing versus other people. And when I need true stress relief, Brutal Doom + the heavy metal band soundtrack delivers. Yes, they took real heavy metal bands and recorded the original Doom songs.

Still the much modded old IL2, as each time I think I have enough to upgrade my 14yr old PC some domestic/car/dog expensive disaster curtails!
Dabble in WoT on laptop occasionally.

New BoX IL2 got your jaded flight simming juices flowing again Chucky?

Tried WoW but the silly distances put me off somewhat, and to be honest at nearly 70, eyesight and reactions aren't what they used to be!

A little. I bought new hardware and some more titles/modules but just can't commit atm. The odd MP session in BoX is where I'm at,mainly doing ground attack, getting mauled in my I-16 and Po-2. Yes,I love to fly the underdog.

Re: So, what are people playing these days? - 01/28/20 03:28 PM

Being retired, I can game all day long when I want to.

I play one or more of the following Total war games almost daily.

Rome II (1700 hrs according to Steam)
Shogun II--mostly Fall of the Samurai (6617 hrs according to Steam)
Attila (1683 hrs)
I just fired up an Empire TW campaign yesterday. (only 1100 hours)

I just managed to get the old space sim "Freelancer" to run last week and
played through the campaign.

This prompted me to start looking at new space sim/games, so I got:

Rebel Galaxy Outlaw. (I've played this more than anything else for the last few days)

Everspace (haven't played it much yet)

Cheers

You blow away the time I've put into Shogun 2 and Empire but I've put more time into Rome 2 and Attila so it's a wash.... biggrin

Living in the past, mostly.

Finally started Witcher 3 a few weeks ago. Didn't care for the first one, but after hearing everyone rave about 3 for a few years... yeah, I'm NOT disappointed. It's great. And then, good timing, I saw the show was on Netflix! So I was primed for that. smile

Just bought IL-2- BoS, BoM, BoK + some extra planes. Couldn't be happier with it.

And still driving Assetto Corsa,
A little American Truck Simulator (relaxing!)
Building missions in Arma3,

Playing Duck Game, Castle Crashers, Battle Block Theatre with the kids.

I have the same experience as you. I got through the first Witcher game but often times it felt like a chore and at times I lost interest in the main story but Witcher 3 simply blew me away. It is hands down for me one of the best RPG's I've ever played.

I've not seen the Netflix series yet but it's on my "must watch" list.

Re: So, what are people playing these days? - 01/28/20 05:42 PM

My issue is I play lots of other games, too, but in the last year I have failed to complete a single one. Aside from my main pastime of Supreme Commander online versus other humans(I'd be happy enough simply playing chess every day), I have a nasty case of gaming ADHD.

What is gaming ADHD?

Gaming ADHD is a disorder where one starts a new game of something every 7 days. This means a different game started fresh every week, like clockwork. The resultant syndrome leads to noncompletionitis™, which is similar to the feeling in one's belly after eating a bag of potato chips or consuming fast food. It tastes good, but afterwards feel empty and sour inside and unfulfilled.

A few of the games I have started in the last year and not beaten:

Hollow Knight (very hard game)
Grim Dawn
Kingdom Come: Deliverance (I have ALMOST beaten this but the damned game design decision to have you ride back and forth across the map over and over has halted my completion. My character can essentially one-shot almost any enemy now at level 15 or 16).
Rise of the Tomb Raider
Wolfenstein: New Order
Dead Space
Surviving Mars
Alpha Centauri
Zelda the Minish Cap
Octopath Traveler
Divine Divinity 2
Overload
Terraria
Spyro the Dragon
Slain: Back from Hell (this is hard)
The Knobbly Crook
Redout
Far Cry 4
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt(actually I started this three years ago...)
Sekiro (WAY TOO HARD)
Metro 2033
Dead Island
The Surge
Strafe
Subnautica
Cities XL

the list goes on...

Oh, does beating the Star Trek Armada III Mod of Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion count? Sins is a brilliant game, but sadly after three or four days of playing I figured out how stupid the AI is and from there it was downhill. I exploited the AI's flaws and shortly thereafter was able to beat anything the game threw at me aside from the Borg, which cheat.

Those games I start but haven't finished, and instead spend most of my gaming time playing Supcom and Star Citizen.

LOL got the same problem here Blastman ,,Gaming ADHD,,I'll be reading something about the Civil War and go to my two TB external backup drives and slap something in about that war or watch something on the History Channel and jump to a WW II game..Guess my gaming goes what ever way the wind blows

How many years have you been PC gaming Blastman? I ask because it's been my experience that most gamers with "gaming ADHD" have been gaming for a long time. I think it has to do with trying to recapture that visceral excitement that was felt many years ago when the PC gaming hobby was new.

I figure youre right PM .I believe most of us started gaming the same way..Some like Red and i started with the old board games and just evolved into computer gamers..Like on a commodore 64 Back then it was new and the games had soul..Newer games lack that ,,Sure some are great and others are just empty of any feeling ..I still play some oldies,,EAW..RB 3D,,Mi Tank platoon Just threw in Half Life over the weekend I still have Call of Duty and mdeal of honor,,The WW II one They are from when the early 2000's and they are still good games..Guess it's the same with my Rock musin..Cream..Blind Faith,,The Dead..Mike Oldfield Tubular Bells

I guess I have reverse gaming ADHD. I generally concentrate on one or at most two games at a time. Especially if the one game I'm into is deep and involved.

Since 1986. And you're right, more often than not the feeling I get is "been there, done that," instead of "Oh, this is neat with a new twist and cool."

In the last few years, only a handful of games have grabbed me: "Dragon's Dogma," which I beat in a month, "Sins of Solar Empire," which I beat in four days, and "Kingdom Come Deliverance." I spent a lot of time in "The Long Dark" with my daughter until nightmares reared in her head, so maybe that counts, and "Mount and Blade: Warband."

I'm pretty jaded, though. Same goes for movies and TV shows.

I think I started gaming in 1982 when we got an Atari 2600. Before that it was Pac-Man and pinball.

How do you "beat" this game? There is no single player story-driven campaign. It's all just single-player or multiplayer individual battles that you can do. Or by "beat" do you mean winning just one single battle against the AI?
Posted By: Mr_Blastman

Re: So, what are people playing these days? - 01/28/20 07:27 PM

Yeah, I consider beating winning a whole scenario. Sadly the AI is bad. Only flaw, really.

September, supposedly.

Although with that complex and ambitious of a game, you're probably better off waiting until a few months after release anyway.

I am 95% certain that the game will be delayed and will not be released until 2021. I find it hilarious how you can pre-order the game on Steam since about the summer of 2019!

GTA 5
Sniper Ghost Warrior 3
Madden 20
Metro Exodus

Re: So, what are people playing these days? - 01/29/20 02:48 PM

I played both of them, and each redux version as well, as I'm a big fan of the series and even with the praise it does garner, I reckon it's still an underrated franchise. So a bit of a fan yeah. So take my opinions with that in mind.

I think Exodus is very good. The open world aspect is cool and works well. That said, I was completely fine with the corridor or rail approach to the first two games. People often use those terms to knock a game, but I thought, especially in Last Light, that it worked particularly well. The narrow corridors leaving few escape options added to the tension.

In Exodus there's more freedom, making it feel a bit more like STALKER for me. But maybe it also in some ways suffers from it, as it's less dense and there is a certain aimlessness to it at times. Might just be me. I struggle at times with navigating, or knowing where I am or am supposed to be going. The environments are amazingly detailed, the weapons are still cool, and I've always liked those sections where you're among your community, listening to their conversations.

The graphics are amazing, the game just looks great for me. AI is not good, and that's true of all three games in my view. Hard for me to evaluate the story considering I haven't finished it, but it's fine so far. The high grade ammo as currency thing is gone and that's fine with me. The sense of immersion for me is hard to match. The beautiful graphics, the player animations, the cadence of my breathing and the sounds all combine to create a high sense of immediacy, or how involved I feel.

The main issue I have with it is that even though the soundscape is really good, positionally it is bad. Not sure if it's due to my hardware, but I struggle to use sounds to locate. Far things sound near for example. Overall I rate it highly, but I wouldn't mind a return to the metro for the next installment. I think if you liked 2033 and Last Light, you'll find a lot to like in Exodus, and it might even surpass those games for many. For me the net sum of the parts puts Exodus alongside Last Light. Not better, not worse, but different enough to be interesting and compelling. There was a member here recently who liked the first two games but refunded Exodus, so I suppose you never know unless you give it a go. But I would recommend it as a good addition to the series.
Posted By: PanzerMeyer

Re: So, what are people playing these days? - 01/29/20 03:07 PM

Thanks for that post DBond. I was worried when I first read about the open geography of Exodus because in my opinion it was the claustrophobic and dark narrow spaces, rooms and hallways that really set the mood and atmosphere for the first two games.

One of my favorites ever. So excited about Bannerlord being released (even if it will be early access) in March. Really, the only future release I'm paying attention to. Saving room for it on my fastest SSD.

One thing I'm increasingly finding these days is that I'm reluctant to want to learn new control schemes and unfamiliar game mechanics.

I just don't have the time and inclination unless the payoff is there.
