"...old but updated M-16"? What I could see of it looked like the GAU-5 I carried in the 1970's.

I don’t remember the USAF’s guns having forward assists. That’s an M16A1 (upper receiver, anyway) with collapsible stock retrofitted. The carry handle looks like it’s been squeezed just ahead of the rear sight.

wink that is the first thing I noticed as well biggrin

the Israelis received a huge quantity of M-16A1 for free in the 80s (which had the unfortunate side effect of sidelining the Galil) and instead of letting them rust away, recently started to give them a big overhaul.

Oh, they are here PM, they just have to wait 20 years to bring FO to justice! smile

At almost 74 years (in only two more days) I can still appreciate a fine-looking filly--er, I mean soldier. There may be snow on the roof, but the furnace still works. However, if that soldier or the SJW's want me, they might be taking a big chance by waiting 20 years. Hell, I had some minor dental surgery performed yesterday and this morning, I'm pretty sure I don't have 20 hours left. nope

Mine did. Both M16A1 in TACP (the precursor to JTAC) and GAU in CCT. Can't speak to the cops or the rest of the Air Force, although I believe that PJ's carried the GAU so if ours did theirs undoubtedly would have, also.

All the M16A1’s had forward assists.

And it looks like more modern M4s are sidling the Tavor in the IDF. IWI is now building an entirely new rifle and their own M4 variant, probably for Israeli special forces in mind.

The newer Galil ACE is doing well in South America because it was a joint Colombian project, so I assume local politics and trade agreements sell that rifle more than anything.

I dated a former IDF M4 firing platform years back, 8/10 would recommend.

How can one tell if she has 'forward assists' under the bulky flak jacket.

Our few GAUs did not have forward assist but they were ancient.
