I hope it's not like other games where I've read articles on how "authentic" and "realistic" it is going to be and you end up playing the game and it is just a fast twitch rail shooter!

I fully expect it to be just another 'run and gun' mate... it's alright the developers wanting it to be realistic, but that means the people that play it have to actually play it in a realistic fashion.
If they want that then they have to make it so that if you loose your virtual life, then that is it, you are out of the game until the next session.
If it's just respawn straight after you get killed then the majority of players will simply not care about their virtual life at all... so, just continue to run around and get killed, respawn, do it all again... sigh!

It is more realistic that past CoDs but for main stream games realism = graphics and style, not gameplay. CoD does look authentic and the sounds are better this time around, not as realistic as Battlefield or Insurgency Sandstorm, but better than previous CoD games. Gameplay tries to be a bit more like Battlefield but ultimately it is a CoD game.

If you're expecting SWAT 4 or the older Ghost Recon and Rainbow Six games move along.

I'm not one to speak with any authority on CoD games, unless my experience with the first two 15 years ago counts for anything. I enjoyed those games, and they were innovative in their own way. Who doesn't remember the battle like Brecourt Manor as their first taste of the series? Or in the second one I think it was when you were riding shotgun in a jeep, taking potshots with your Thompson at every coal-scuttled, hobnailed German soldier who popped up along the way? That sort of sequence exploded in it's wake, but CoD was the first.

But then we get to the third installment. This is where I stopped playing. I recall a certain segment, I was fighting my way though the waves of soliders. I got behind a box and thought I would wait until I got them all, but the waves never ended. I soon discovered that as long as I stayed behind this box they didn't stop, but if I got behind that box 4 feet in front of me they did, as that was the where the trigger was. That was it. I stopped playing and never played again. My son does though and loves these games.

The article linked in the OP wouldn't load for me so I don't know what it's about. But I think when they talk about authenticity and realism it's more about the atmosphere than the combat mechanics. This formula has been a runaway success for years and why would they change it up now?

Exactly. It's all about having the right expectations. Expecting a COD title to have the level of realism you see in ArmA 3 or Swat 4 is like going to see a Larry the Cable Guy movie and expecting to get an Oscar worthy performance.

Escape From Tarkov has promise as far as "realistic" tactical shooters go, although its still in beta and features only about 30% of planned content at this point.

Also, its mandatory that you play it while bumping hardbass, decked out in ADIDAS and drinking either vodka or kvass.

authentic means to emulate reality, not simulate, take this as exemple, we never had, and never will get a gunship as realistic as this fps,it looks just like the leaked videos you see online or those from DOD
