FIFA World cup - 06/29/19 12:59 PM

No interest in the women's game here guys?

Although I want England to win I would put the USA as tournament winners. Anyway, they face each other on Tuesday for a place in the final.

Playing today Italy/Netherlands and then Germany/Sweden for the last places in the semi-finals.

I'm following it Chucky. I follow football, especially European club football, but you knew this already I think smile

I've long thought of starting a football thread here, and may still do. Whenever the World Cups come around we get a thread here about it. But in between, nothing.

Like Liverpool won the CL, and I had nowhere to gloat about it, and that's not ideal biggrin

Well done to England to make it this far. Yeah, I'd say the Americans have to be favorites. They have the skill, depth and sophistication to win it all. But that's why you play 'em, ya never know. Congrats to England for reaching this stage. Good fight from France yesterday too. Someone had to lose, and it's hard on France to have met the Americans so early. There are repercussions for not finishing in the top three, such as failing to qualify for the Olympics I think. They're too good for that. Unfortunate that the draw broke that way for them.

The Americans have a 'killer instinct'. They really want to win and will do anything to do it. I noticed a couple of dives against the French early game which isn't something I've seen the ladies do often. Luckily the ref was having none of it.

This is what separates the men's and women's game. There is an overall skill deficiency when compared with the men but this will diminish I'm sure. The men's game is full of diving, professional fouling and skulduggery which just isn't in the ladies game (at the moment at least). Because of that the games flow more freely without constant stops.

Here in the UK viewing figures have hit a record high and I'm sure the semi against the USA will break that.

Been following it from the beginning. As Canada got knocked out by the Netherlands, while be cheering them on.

As a side note the Men's U20 just finished with Ukraine beating Korea Republic 3:1.

Italy are losing the plot a little.

Minute 79 Netherland scores, 2:0. Both goals headers from a free kick.

A goal usually picks up the scoring side Chucky.

Triple yawn, as there is political agendas thrown into the mix.

It's just encouraging bad behavior all around.

Soccer period.double yawn.
I lost all respect for the sport years ago. Grown men rolling on the ground holding their legs like they were shot. Please.
I watch hockey, were Duncan Keith had 7 teeth knocked out, and still played.
And don't get me started about a little blood on a baseball pitcher's sock.

Re: FIFA World cup - 07/02/19 10:22 PM

It was close. 2-1 to the USA.

I was a little miffed when they went to VAR to reverse our second goal but that works both ways. VAR gave us a penalty but we didn't make it count.

I predict a USA/Sweden final.

England missed 3 out of 4 penalty kicks. :duh

At one point in the game the American goalie held the ball for at least 10 seconds. Now unless the rule has changed, the Americans called the Canadians on this, I believe England should have had a penalty kick if the English had pointed this out to the ref.:

So why is the US women's soccer team so good and the US men's soccer team so crappy?

Re: FIFA World cup - 07/03/19 11:57 AM

Different cultures about soccer, and more about women's soccer, all around the World, so not the same adversity.

You could ask the same for the Dutch.
Netherlands vs USA in the final Sunday.

Re: FIFA World cup - 07/09/19 01:47 PM

Well,no surprise that the USA won the tournament.

Now I see that the team refuse to go to the Whitehouse. Rapinoe said before they won that she would 'refuse to go to the f****** Whitehouse'. What a disrespectful #%&*$#.

Say what you want guys,I don't mind if this goes to PWEC.

Re: FIFA World cup - 07/09/19 01:51 PM

Just my 2 cents,

If you are playing on a national sports team then you keep your opinions to yourself and you do what is required such as doing visits to the Whitehouse.

Thru out whole game the Americans were diving and finally got a penalty kick goal.

The US women had a great team, lacked one thing though...class.
