US, Russiam destroyer collision

US, Russiam destroyer collision - 06/10/19 12:18 AM

I had expected io find something here about the collision but maybe I missed it.

Anyway, the view of both destroyers, from the front, way in front, clearly shows the wake of the Russian ship coming sharply in from the left, directly on a colission course toward the US ship, and its (the US ship's) unswerving straight course.

I would post a picture of it but I can't find it (it was clearly shown on the evening news). Maybe someone else can help?

Outrageous, but not surprising, that the Russianscclaim the US is at fault!

Even though the picture is small, you can clearly see the wakes of both ships.

i'm no seaman, but i can see both ships going straight in a virtual intercepting course in front of them......i don't know who started this, but this happens often with military ships as a chicken game, as its impossible no one on either ship did not saw the aproach of the other one.

No, if you look at the Russian ship wake you can see it was maneuvering. The US ship was constant. Look at the beginning of the wakes and look at signs.

As a non sailor guy i have to say it does look like 2 ships were both going in their own straight lines, with the russian ship turning at the end and going along side the US ship.

From my seat it looks like 2 superpowers both thinking they own the seas and everyone else should move out of their way, and if they dont, its their fault. which is never gonna end well.

Hmm...kinda sounds like how Britain acted for a couple of centuries when they were top dog. biggrin

The few videos I've seen seem to show the American ship in front of the Russian one. I'm no Popeye either, but I'm guessing that gives the American ship the right-of-way.

Ships get closer than that when replenishing.

As seen water can get rather rough.

CNN said at one point the American ship was an airplane carrier. biggrin

That's true, KK. But in those cases the ships aren't playing chicken.

The Russian ship is the one in danger considering the number of collisions American ships have been in recently.
