Avengers: Endgame

Avengers: Endgame - 04/26/19 12:54 PM

Saw it at the 2215 showing, only tickets left I could get. By the time the end credits were over it was 0245. So just a heads up if you see it to reserve a 3 hour time slot at least.

Anyway, I did like the movie, there were just a few things that were disappointing to me, but the rest of the good things outweighed what I would call my own personal nitpicks. The movie does make you think, wow, it has been 12 years already since "Iron Man " kicked off this whole Odyssey, and my what a 12 years it has been! There were several things that happened in the movie that I did not expect to happen; nor happen when it did. It really left me wondering, "Oh, no! What's going to happen next.?" The three hours went by quickly for me because I was eager to see what would happen next.

But yes it has been a wild 12-year ride and it all has certainly culminated in "Avengers: Endgame." I enjoyed it overall, all the way down to the credits.

I'll be seeing it next weekend. I'll wait for the crazy crowds and traffic to die down a bit so there's no way I'll see it on opening weekend.

I didn't want to have to avoid spoilers so I went as soon as I could, haha.

Yup! That's why I will highly limit my social media browsing until next weekend!

All I will say, because I wouldn’t want to spoil this experience for anyone, is that it was AWESOME and did not disappoint. Cheering and crying in the theater...although I find that a little weird.
Didn’t stay through credits, so I don’t know if there was the usual treatment.

There wasnt any post credits, there was only the hammering of tony stark making his first armor, a lot people making stupid theories around it, but it was just a nod to the first movie and a nice homage to the beginning of the mcu or maybe the forging of the new mcu going forward.
the middle credits was a nice recolection of the mcu movies and a tribute for the original 6 avengers /actors though.

Re: Avengers: Endgame - 04/27/19 05:59 AM

Yes, I really liked the original actor homage. And not having an after credit scene at the end added to the bittersweet sign that it was the end of the 12 year ride.

Some things I liked about seeing it in the theatre

When Spider-Man shows up and Tony is so happy and they hug, the audience applauded. They also applauded when Cap said "Hail Hydra" and got the sceptre. They also did with Stan Lee's cameo, and also when Cap wielded Mjolnir.

It's moments like that that keep me going to the theatre to see movies. That would never have happened at home

in mine the biggest crowd moments was when
cap got the mjolnir, on your left and when the avengers A team (the women) formed,
i could feel the moisture in the air from all the wet panties in that moment
i was disapointd in the battle cry though, after 11 years of waiting i wanted a braveheart avengers assemble! not a freaking whisper

i'm not crying, you are !!

Also the old song they picked for the ending couldnt be more fitting, they honestly deserve a oscar nomination for this.

Quote
While the industry always expected Endgame‘s to be a stratospheric launch, last week folks were cautious about predicting a $1B global opening (the long runtime, China’s lack of days off during the debut, etc). Given the incredible trajectory the 22nd MCU pic has been on this weekend — and a lack of down-drag from the extra runtime coupled with round-the-clock screenings in many markets — sources now see Endgame reaching even higher, to a $1.1B worldwide take, and, yes, even nearing $1.2B.

Of that, this reckoning with Thanos is now looking to reach well into the $800Ms overseas.

Re: Avengers: Endgame - 05/01/19 01:53 AM

Saw it on opening weekend (Sunday morn at 10am - the showing was packed).

In a nutshell:

1.> It's a movie of "Epic Scope"
2.> It was highly Entertaining
3.> *Don't* overthink it, or it will completely override points 1 & 2... You *have* been warned... attack

I saw it with a good friend of mine, who I've watched almost every Marvel movie with (he's the hardcore Comic book guy - Canon *matters*)

That said, if you decide to ignore that warning -- consider:

* Of the millions of scenarios Dr. Strange "saw" with *only* ONE winning outcome -- distilling Endgame down in that context was ... really? That was it???
* Considering Thanos almost lost in the preceding movie - WITH the stones -- what he can DO in Endgame is ... a bit OP
* WHO can handle Infinity Stones without dying??? When did that change, exactly?
* What, exactly did they need Captain Marvel for anyway?
* Movies with hand-waving - "we''ll just change the timeline and that will solve everything" plot devices are A> Grossly overused, and B> Seriously disappointing (if not outright irritating)
* .... and that covers only the *glaring* "Jump the Shark" moments... There were SO many more....

Heeding the warning, I truly enjoyed it - it was Epic, Entertaining, and drew the series to closure -- *Thinking* about HOW that was done was .... Yeah, Bad... Just Don't Go There... yep

Cheers,
4 ~S!~

Even though you aren’t being terribly specific, your post borders on spoilers. I’d at least put your bullet points in a spoiler tag.

I saw it yesterday. IMAX 3D. Enjoyed it, for the most part, had some serious problems with certain other major aspects. Looking forward to bouncing them off the rest of you when it can be done openly, without fear of spoiling anything.

Re: Avengers: Endgame - 05/02/19 03:19 AM

After watching endgame it reminded me of my high school days when I had just exited the movie theater after watching the opening of return of the Jedi at the Chinese theater in Hollywood. Ever since I left high school, I never paid to see the same movie twice because I never had the urge, but this movie will be the exception.

Re: Avengers: Endgame - 05/03/19 01:10 AM

We went on an early morning matinee with about 8 people in the theater.

It blowed up real good once it got to the blowing up parts.

And I am now sexier than Thor.

My "guffaw" moment was when they did the "girl power" pose with all the female characters in one frame.

And had the good sense to have the moth antenna girl standing there very uncomfortably. smile

And now we can get back to Agents of SHIELD. #ImmortalCoulsonFTW

Just got back from theater. Good movie, not great. Certainly hit ALL of the PC touch stones.

Re: Avengers: Endgame - 05/03/19 11:59 PM

The previously mentioned plot holes really bothered me. I mean they even have a huge speech about how those plot holes dont work IRL and then they gave up and just did the plot holes.

I would have loved for them to finish in a way that fixed everything and didnt #%&*$# up and end in plot holes. I can think of a handful of ways off the top of my hand and yet the way they chose to go.. plot holes.

there are no plot holes

Nebula "conveniently" share neural waves with old nebula, so killing the old version of her makes no difference, they are essentially the same wich is really grim when you think of it, she now has memory of her death...suicide ?
Cap lives in a alternative timeline and return to pass the shield to his original one, problably after his peggy died
the ancient one realized they lost because she didnt share the stone, she only does so because strange does it

The only contrivance that you shouldnt look too far as this is a comic book movie, is
how cap returned the jewels to their original state when some of them were in containers before, but just like rocket created a needle sucking of aether that all the great magis in asgard couldnt in TDW,just assume he got a machine that does it

Blade, your last spoiler tag thingy was the one that had me chuckling after the movie was over.

Also:

So The Hulk makes the wish that everyone Thanos disappeared five (or is it seven?) years prior are returned in the present - exactly where they were when they were evaporated.

Kind of sucks if one was on an airplane when it happened. Or on a ship at sea. Or someone put up a wall/a tree grew/a chair was placed where you were standing when you evaporated.

"And so, Timmy, you see where I'm standing? This is the exact spot where you mother was when the Vanishing....aaaahhgggg, aaaahhgggg..."

Re: Avengers: Endgame - 05/04/19 01:49 PM

Bullet proof wishes are impossible. Name a fairy tale where even one of the three wishes worked the intended way. The only variation seems to be how malicious the fairy or djinn is.

pretty sure he just wished them to return not exactly where they were or we would not get the time jump. but my friend though the same as you and went even darker.
what of the justborn or unborn babies whose mothers commited suicide because they lost them? do their spawn in their corpse ? does the 5 second respawn immunity applies ?

My buddy went and said the movie was OK but at the local cinema there were 50 minutes of previews and advertising before the movie even started
