Dolby Atmos sound.... - 12/13/18 04:23 PM

Ok, who here has spent the $$ or heard the Dolby Atmos sound experience?
I was reading that they can push up to 32 speakers with it. Wow.

I have a 7.2.1 Atmos system powered by a Yamaha receiver. It's an incremental improvement over Dolby TrueHD, but nice nonetheless.

I've yet to see a mass market receiver that will drive 32 speakers, though!

I have a 9.1 Atmos setup with 2 overhead speakers. I use a nice Marantz AVR and Mirage speakers with Martin Logan overhead speakers. It definitely adds the 3rd dimension with the overhead speakers. I really want two more overhead speakers toward the front on my movie room but unless I add another amp this is not possible right now. If you read up on Atmos it is really incredible because with the overhead speakers any credible sound engineer can treat the sound stage as a box and place the sound the want anywhere within that box. It is hard to describe but it definitely adds to the whole surround sound experience. As you said though it is a substantial investment. If you don't really love music or movie watching then it would be a waste of money.

Blade I saw a cut-away of some of the new soundbars, and they have the speakers pointed all over the place! Up, Forward, 45 degree and sideways.

No Soundbars here Sir. This is the culmination of 20 years of buying the speakers I always wanted and assembling the matching surround speakers to it as Home Theater came into being. The two ceiling speakers are the only non brand matching speakers, but I purchased Martin Logan speakers so as to keep the quality of sound as high as my Mirages. Excuse the mess and the plastic on the wall as these were taken after a tree fell on my house in an ice storm and one limb came through the roof and that wall to knock both the Plasma TV and the center speaker off of the wall. cuss
The ceiling speakers are basically in the back third of the room, not directly over the listener.
Anyway, this is my little 2 person music/movie room which I can easily run most people out of with flick of my volume switch. winkngrin

And to think I was just happy to get my parents a Sony 2.1 sound bar.

Hey Blade, I won’t tell anyone but I can see your reflection on the tv screen.
Not wearing much, are you?

Cheers,

Running shorts lol. Thanks for not telling anyone. That is my old Pioneer AV receiver also which stopped working after 4 years. Will never buy Pioneer again, you have to send it to California for any repair(70$ shipping) and no guarantee if repaired out of warranty.
