Forgotten in the freezer - 08/22/18 09:36 PM

Placed a copper cup of lemonade in the freezer since I was out of ice and then I lost power for ten minutes. When the power came back, I forgot about it.

I remembered just now

I'm still trying to work out A) Why one would have a copper cup handy, and B) Why one would put an acidic liquid in it.

Wondered about that myself.

Perhaps an experimental battery was derived from this or just and extra tingly, zippy zappy cup of lemonade. Speaking of frozen drinks. Lately I've been making Icees out of Apricot Nectar juice and a can of peaches. Blend it up and freeze it. Then the next day let it thaw to the point you can dig at it with a spoon and turn it into an Icee or Slushie consistency. Its veeery good!

There's a whole pineapple in the fridge that I was told not to touch (not that I'd know how to prep it). Then I noticed a 5th of light Bacardi on the bar, but I haven't asked about it yet.

I think the two are connected, and I did a search...

Like the girly starter drink you have on deck before a cruise ship leaves port, I'm guessing Pina Coladas...to begin a 4-day pure-80's weekend (Sat.-Tues.), ending with a Journey/Def Leppard concert. band

Um. This was a laugh at my expense.

So seriously, did a couple of my old-time friendly acquaintances here just decide to judge me over a moscow mule cup? This wasn't a Hardy Boys mystery or an Illuminati conspiracy which one was challenged to solve. You guys have a funny way of interacting with somebody you've acted friendly towards for years, but all things come to an end, I suppose. Don't worry, the part of my brain that was damaged was not responsible for my cognitive memory; I won't forget.

Here's an actual puzzle. Dart, cichildfan, see if you can do the math in one guess. I'm thinking of two words. The first is a verb, and the other is a pronoun.

I think they are commenting on the fact that copper builds a patina and acid things dissolve that patina and then you drink the patina which is poisonous.

However, copper oxidation produces harmful effects in copper cookware. When the copper cooking surface comes into contact with acidic food (i.e. vinegar, wine), it produces a toxic verdigris, which is poisonous if ingested.

It wont kill you but enough of it can make you sick.

Cid, I wasn't trying to be mean.

1) Copperware is uncommon, as it can be really expensive.

2) Putting acids into them is really super uncommon, for the reasons stated. The freezer probably slowed everything way down, though. I've seen some really nice copper cups ruined this way.

Thanks! I love you, too!

Why do people lose their mind and post stuff on Forums and social media that just makes them look stupid. I have an unofficial rule with myself, If I read something that pisses me off, "Wait 24 hours before I post a reply". If I apply this rule to myself, I usually don't come out looking stupid and wishing I never made the post in the first place. When I don't apply the rule to myself, well you know... rolleyes

S!Blade<><

Edit: I do realize that I may have to apply this rule to myself soon, but i think it will be worth it just to share this almost foolproof method to keep yourself from posting what you really didn't want to own as your post later. yep

It was not meant to be a laugh at your expense. It was a genuine curiosity as to why someone would put an acidic beverage into a chemically reactive container. All you needed was a zinc straw and you could have trickle charged your cell phone with it.

Oh, now, let's not blow it up more than we should.

I just touched a raw nerve for some reason, as can happen from time to time.

Indeed, he was just trying to share a lighthearted moment of simple delight and we went another direction with it, which in retrospect was a bad thing - we sucked the joy out of a nice little pleasure.

Frozen lemonade is a wonder, I'll admit.

You are right. I should also point out that a set of four copper mugs can be had for only $20 on Amazon and they have nickel interiors, though I still don't know what goes into a Moscow Mule. Also, I prefer frozen grapefruit juice over lemonade. smile

Cid, please accept my apologies for messing with you needlessly.

EDIT: It appears that a decent copper mug is a bit more expensive, though not terribly costly compared to some of the crystal that my aunt used at family dinners. Never had a Moscow Mule but since I love a good Ginger Ale, I will have to give it a try.

Re: Forgotten in the freezer - 08/24/18 07:22 PM

Hurting feelings was the farthest thing from my mind when I saw this post. I thought it was just another standard fair SimHQ chew the fat, spill your current thoughts thread. I hope nothing I said came off that way because that was the farthest thing from my mind. I thought we were all being the normal SimHQ silly while also opening the door to random sharing of drink recipes. I'm sorry Cid if anything I did contributed to that feeling. It was not intended whatsoever. Your post has actually made me interested in using a copper cup. Hope everyone can be at peace with one another. We all need to stick together around here.
