Why do gaming mice look like the cube from Hellraiser - 03/27/18 12:57 AM

Shopping for a mouse, everything I find has these sharp edges, flaps, lights, mystery switches and seems to be contoured for a 7-fingered alien.

Where do I get myself a nice 1974-style domed mouse that's smooth and MELLOW

The Roccat Tyon has a couple of mystery switches (programmable, though) and isn't quite the rounded, mellow design, but I like those extra buttons even if I'm not using all of them.
Programmable buttons are useful not only in games, but also applications like Photoshop.

I’ve got the Roccat Nyth, the MMO style mouse. You get to choose the button layout on the side as well as program. It has it’s shortcomings, but it’s comfortable and very flexible.
I still miss my R.A.T. 7 MMO, best mouse I’ve ever had.

Get used to RGB, that crap is everywhere now. It can be turned off though.

I hear you Clydewinder. Some of them look like a nasty, futuristic rat trap that you might loose some fingers if you touch it. I still have and use my trusty Logitech G9X. This has probably been the best mouse I've ever owned. Nice wide design, variable heft by inserting an assortment of metal weights, laser mouse, on the fly dpi button with multiple sensitivities, two interchangeable palm frames(one smooth and one textured) and a braided chord. It was a hundred bucks back in the day but unfortunately is more than twice that now as I guess they don't produce them anymore. If you can find one for a decent price I'd highly recommend it. I'd love to have another as a back up myself I like it so much.

Only because they aren't manufactured anymore. They were about 99 bucks retail when they were being produced.

I have the Logitech 300s, which also apparently isn't being produced anymore. Bought it trying to get a plain, comfortable mouse with a few extra buttons, and it's quite good for the $25. Like most other mice these days, it's rather small IMO. Getting something larger is tough, and then still all those sharply pointed/angled/spiky type gamer mice seemed more common that something that looks comfortable for palm use.
