Only 53, same age as my wife. She told me about it from a facebook post. Was only
kidding her when I asked if this more of facebook spewing false news. She got mad
quickly and shoved her phone in my face. See its on CNN. Sorry my dear, just not use
to see you using the news.

Its Sad, another one gone, RIP.

My first reaction was that it was another celebrity death hoax.

not being around when he was super famous .... i cant really see the point of a massive outpouring of grief, he was a bit of a twat really, at least that's all i've known him to be!

I mentioned this on the Music board (I probably shouldn't have started a separate music thread, my mistake), if you were parking in the 80's (depending on what your girl liked to listen to), there's a good chance you were playing a little George Michael.

*Especially* with his 1987 album "Faith"...

If there's one year I wouldn't mind reliving would be 1987. What I have today is the next best thing...this Friday evening I'll be standing in front of a stage, arms wrapped around my Mrs. listening to our favorite 80's cover band (The Molly Ringwalds) playing a few of George Michael's songs, most likely including the above.

So yeah, it's an age thing, nostalgia runs deep.

RIP.

Yeap, this year (2016) was (still is) really terrible for celebrities around the world!

Never particularly cared for his music and disliked his personal behavior.

Kind of a non-event for me.

What's interesting is that his personal behavior was probably no different from the vast majority of music industry celebs.

As for his music, I think he had a few catchy songs but I never actually bought any of his stuff (either Wham or solo).

Re: George Michael dead - 12/27/16 01:52 PM

Other than 80's nostalgia...

I find his death a bit more disturbing than usual due to his age and, as brought out on the 2016 thread, that obesity may have been a contributing factor.

I've seen it in my own extended family, the consequences of obesity (including early death) and my own age bracket losing the battle. Kinda worries me. Also shocks me if this really is the case with George Michael.

It's also been recently revealed that he was battling a heroin addiction. I think that was a much bigger factor than the obesity.

Yeah, maybe the weight stressed out a heart weakened by drugs? It'll be interesting to see what they determine was the cause.

+1

He refused to take an HIV test for years, out of fear of knowing.

He grew into on hell of a handsome man early into his career. Sadly, the last few years he wasn't looking his normal handsome self.

Yeah, I've always thought another voice from 1987 was a real douchebag, but still I feel all nostalgic about "Appetite for Destruction".

If it were a gay thing, I'd say the same about Freddie Mercury and Rob Halford [or Elton John and Michael Stipe], doesn't matter to me.
