Good ol' GOG

I bought Legend of Grimrock 1 & 2 and they gifted me System Shock 2.(Never did play that one but always gets good reviews)

This makes about the eight or ninth game that I have in my GOG account that was gifted to me by them. What a great site and group. I hope they can continue to do what they do successfully for many years to come.

Spend $15 gets you Chronicles of Riddick and $30 gets you Banished. It's nice to get free stuff for spending money.

LoG II is pretty good, and GOG is awesome.

How do you like LoG 2 Coot? When I finished Witcher 3 and was looking for my next game and that one made the short-short list. Instead I went with Borderlands 2 (lovin' it). But curious how it is as I might want to pick it up sometime.

BTW, System Shock 2 is amazing. I haven't played it in many years, but when I did I found it creepy and atmospheric. A real classic. Looking Glass had the knack (loved the Thief games too)

DBond, LoGII is really oldschool, but graphically quite well done.

A huge emphasis on complex riddles (push-plates, trapdoors, levers, items) and a solid party building system.

It totally feels like a game - i.e. you are always aware you are playing within artificial limitations (i.e. the grid-locked movement) but it feels like an interesting game. That's in contrast to newer titles which try to be like a real-life movie.

I treat GOG like I did Third Wire, buying games I'll probably never play just to support their no-DRM policy.

Thanks Colonel. Did you enjoy it? Were the puzzles intuitive or frustrating?

Most of them are quite reasonable, a few might need a pointer or two which you'll find online. Combat too is manageable though some opponents seem to be too strong for when you first meet them (or I didn't level up in the most clever way).

I really liked it, played it for two or three weeks whenever I had time, but then some other title came along and I didn't finish it.

It's so interesting because it's blatantly flaunting it's game mechanics in your face - i.e. it's never even trying to pretend to be a "simulated fantasy world which might also be real" like for example Witcher 3. But exactly because it's doing that it feels very relaxing, very nice to enjoy and it doesn't hurt it at all.

Thanks Colonel. That echoes what I've read. Though I think I'll be playing Borderlands for a while to come yet. LoG 2 is on the list.

How do you like Borderlands, incidentally?

I dig the cartoon GFX, but the floating hit numbers and stuff seemed too much for me...

I really didn't know how I'd like it. I did quite a bit of reading to find my 'next game', and mostly knew what to expect, and what it was about, but didn't know if I'd actually like it. The floating numbers don't bother me, actually I've grown to like them in this game. Bottom line is I just love this game. It is a fabulous shooter. It's irreverent, whacky, funny and fun.

There's not much of a story really. But it's just so much fun to play. It runs like butter being a 2012 game. It is still supported, with a new patch released just a few days ago. I have a bout 60-70 hours in to it and don't see stopping anytime soon. This game will not appeal to everyone, but I think it's great.

I have the Borderlands 2 GOTY edition.

I've played all of the Borderlands titles and have enjoyed them in cooperative mode immensely. I tried playing the first one in single player mode but I got bored pretty fast. These games are really made for the coop mode imho.

PM's right, the games are designed for co-op. For example loot is leveled for co-op. The more players, the better the likelihood of good loot drops. Still, I've been playing single-player and enjoying it all the same.

The co-op is seamless, players can drop in and out at any time. Best to play with friends I think, as otherwise you run in to people who, for example, will host and kick the other players just as the boss has been beaten in order to grab all the loot for themselves, that sort of thing.

Being over 3 years old though, not many of your friends might still be playing it.

Anyone know if the x-wing and tie fighter series on GoG differs from the Steam versions at all? I want to get the best version sometime this xmas thanks.
