Heh, a remake of a film that isn't even 25 years old. Then again, current pop culture attitudes seem to indicate that anything older than 10 years is ancient history. biggrin

The original is actually quite an entertaining popcorn action movie. I predict the new one will be horrible.

This movie is going down. It's got to be that way.

What's next? A remake of Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure?

I don't think this guy is available anymore either...

I never knew Kathryn Bigelow produced this either.

And those commercials...

The most ridiculous award still goes to the Amazing Spider-Man 1 and 2. Totally unnecessary and under 10 years.

he's just kind of lost it, between his motorcycle accident and drugs...

our HR department printed pics of this guy like my pic above and put them under our PC Mice so they wouldn't work as an April Fools joke.

Working with him would be more difficult than Lindsey Lohan.

I personally like his nuttiness, but I don't have to live or work with him. I imagine a little goes a loooooong way.

Correct. DC studios is making Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice which is already in post-production.

Re: Really, Hollywood? You're remaking POINT BREAK?! - 04/03/15 12:58 PM

It's a recasting, it's not a remake. There will be no Bruce Wayne-becomes-Batman origin story told in it AFAIK, he'll just be there played by Affleck.

Superman Returns likewise wasn't a remake, it was a recasting.

Man of Steel was a remake.

The original Point Break was too white, too male, and entirely too straight.

Hollywood will fix this by remaking it with black lesbians and white transexuals. Success!

Everywhere but Indiana and Arkansas. biggrin

I agree that the original was a very entertaining movie. Not worthy of a remake though, IMO.

If they want to remake movies they should do things like Speed 2, Smokey and the Bandit 2 & 3, etc. and do them better.

S&TB 2 was a decent enough sequel. The 3rd one was a waste of celluloid and only watchable for some of Gleason's scenes.

IIRC, Burt wasn't even in S&TB three.

dizzy

I gave up on Hollyweird. Remakes and recasting don't work well, but they are cheaper to make ( already own the rights ect). I guess, creative thinking and original stories are a thing of the past. However, I still go to see Stark Trek , Cowboy ,and War films no matter how bad. In addition , I would go see a 3D girlie movie, if they ever made one.

It's a weird kind of hallucination scene. Jerry is in the Firebird, and Gleason pulls him over, and when he looks at him he sees Burt...but it's not really him. They put gel on the lens and he's got the same hat/glasses/mustache/outfit on that Jerry is wearing, but it's just Gleason imagining he's caught him.

I remember I was so very disappointed in that film and that scene just made it worse.

The second film, though, was a riot with all the cars being wrecked and the interactions between Gleason and the guy playing his son were priceless.

The amusing thing is that Hollywood produces a large amount of movies each year, yet only when they do a remake do people yell "no creativity!". For each remake there are like several hundred original movies.

Yet people only want to see the big budget movies, with the mega-stars - regardless of if they are a remake or not. What Hollywood is doing with the remakes is simply giving people what they demand. They sell because people want to see them. So stop #%&*$# about it and go see an indie movie instead.

Re: Really, Hollywood? You're remaking POINT BREAK?! - 04/04/15 06:58 AM

As for this movie - if they remade all of Keanu Reeves movies with actors that could, well, *act* they'd by default be better than his entire back catalog.

Re: Really, Hollywood? You're remaking POINT BREAK?! - 04/04/15 11:58 AM

I heard that this time it's going to be a musical. And on ice. Nothing improves a production than to put it on ice.

MadDog, there's kind of a "do loop" in movie watching. Hollywood remakes movies as a "sure bet" for a return in investment and distributes them in a few large movie house chains, which are the only movie theaters available to most people. People go see these movies because in large measure that's what playing there. Hollywood then looks to see that people are watching the movies that they made - one of about six movies playing at any given theatre at one time - and is validated....so they plan another remake.

The only hurdle is to advertise and make the movie seem like it's worth watching. But as long as dudes think that they can score after taking a chick to a film, the movie industry will survive.

Re: Really, Hollywood? You're remaking POINT BREAK?! - 04/04/15 04:12 PM

Movie theatre attendance in the US has been flat for the past 13 years. The increase in ticket prices along with higher priced 3D tickets and the growing foreign box office have kept the film industry in the black.

Point Break is just one those movies that oozed cool. Can't believe they would waste their time losing money on it when the original still stands up so well.

Plus Lori Petty..man..she was smokin'.

I Heartily concur.

Sorry Mr. Reeves, but Mr. Swayze was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay cooler than you.

I do still like Keanu's movies though.
They're usually something different, fantasy/sci-fi.

I'm looking forward to seeing John Wick, apparently it's supposed to channel the Hong Kong action B-movie.
Someone kills a unhinged former assassin's dog, which belonged to his wife (How an assassin obtained a Wife, I have no idea), so he goes on a killing spree.

As you do.
