Hasn't bothered me since.

I think I have to get MSFX Steam Edition. I never got the expansion pack and I hate installing via lots of stoopid old disc thingies.

Yes, I have. I've enjoyed them before. The Medieval TW ones were my favorite.

Re: Hide your wallets..Steam Holiday Sale is on - 12/19/14 05:33 AM

FSX Steam Edition, DCS MIG-21, and Strike Suit Zero Director's Cuts are what I may end up picking up. I am supposed to get an 85% discount on Strike Suit as I own the original game plus DLC, but that discount always seems to come/go. Not sure if that discount is over.

Unsure if I want MIG-21 for $25, seeing that it is still a beta. Still awaiting updates for some FC3 aircraft and EDGE... the small incremental updates always make me feel like I am waiting for something. And the current terrian is really starting to bore me. I am getting tired of buying beta products in general I suppose. I figure by the time it is out of beta, I can snag it for a few dollars less. But I may end up getting it anyways, because I want another fast moving fighter in DCS. I got two helos and a P-51, but my favorite type of aircraft are 1960-modern fighters. And after playing the FC3 aircraft in various forms for a decade I really want something new. And maybe EDGE will take advantage of my new GPU. winkngrin

Plenty of other games out there that I want to, but not sure if I will pick them up.

Prey tell, I've been wanting to get Rome 2. I'd also like to maybe get it for my sister but she has a MAC computer. The game says its Mac compatible. Do I have to buy a special version of it for her or will the same software work too? I'm sorry but I'm not familiar with Mac systems.

15 bucks looks too good to pass up and I've heard its gotten better over the last year.

Thanks to Elite, I've got a bit of resilience to Steam's sales. I may pick up a thing or two if the deal is good, but I no longer feel like a crack addict on withdrawal symptoms. zombie

Calling MiG-21 a beta is like calling the original BF4 release "final"...it's not. The MiG-21 is done with a few bugs. In other words, there are many "complete" releases out there that are more incomplete and have more bugs than MiG-21. It's more about the conscience of the developer wanting it to be called beta.

That's about right. The only downside is it's heavy on computer resources and some users (with what I'd call high end rigs) report FPS issues. It's fine on my old E8400, though.

Rome 2 is pretty much unrecognizable from the way it was on release and that's a good thing. The game has had over 10 patches so far.

Re: Hide your wallets..Steam Holiday Sale is on - 12/19/14 02:32 PM

Why are these threads always referring to Steam. There's loads of other sites with deals too. smile

Anyway, BF4 is currently $5 at Gamestop for PC download. http://www.gamestop.com/pc/games/battlefield-4/108897

I've pretty much gotten everything I wanted to get already on previous Steam sales. The Going East DLC for Euro Truck 2 is less than $2, so I'll probably grab that.

Re: Hide your wallets..Steam Holiday Sale is on - 12/19/14 07:59 PM

FSX Steam, Euro Truck 2, Freespace 1 and 2 are all $5 or under. If you guys see any other sim titles on sale post them here! Sometimes they aren't the most popular on the main Steam site and are hard to find.

Glad the issues are getting sorted out. Might have to reconsider. I doubt it will go below 50%, but I might wait and see if it turns up on a daily deal or if it goes on sale via ED's website. I was hesitant with the MIG-21 because even until recently (and even currently? not sure) I was seeing some issues with it when placing it in missions. Notably, invisible missiles, odd LODs, lack of skin/texture options, buggy damage model, low frame rates, and orange LODs at distance. I know the last thing I listed is fixed though.

Really saddened that EDGE isn't here though... although that is another topic on its own. nope

I've got Xeno and it is kinda like the original. I've not played too much of the original X-Com so I can't compare much but Xeno is definitely closer to the old X-Com than the Firaxis remakes.

I wonder how that works. If he bought it as a gift, or put it in his inventory that is fine. But lets say he bought both and activated them on his Steam account. I assume the F-15C module is also used, and therefore goes to waste on Steam? It would be nice if Steam would warn you if you tried to activate an F-15/Su-27 ect. module when you have FC3 already.

Good news is that it should come with a separate CD key. Meaning it can still be used on ED's website without Steam. So I would think he can gift it to another member to use via ED's website, although not through Steam.

Not the apropriate section, but since there is some interest here, I have two keys that activate on STEAM one for RoF on steam and another for the furious wings DLC. I'll let them both go for €10 or a reasonable offer if no one wants to take them for 10.

Considering that there have been more than 25 planes released for ROF that will be one expensive package! Oh, and you also have the weapons and field mods and the extra maps and campaigns.

I chose Corsa because it supposedly has the best "feel". I'm just about the driving simulation, pure and simple. It's not much of a game, and there are better options if online play is your thing.

But I love it.

The initial release of the game last year was highly criticized and rightly so. It really was a bug-ridden mess. However, with all of the subsequent patches (over 10 of them) the game is now what it should have been on release.

Not counting the arcade air combat games, I'd say that the percentage of Steam users who play flight sims is very small. I'd love to see if there are any statistics concerning that online. My educated guess would be that less than 10% of registered Steam users play hardcore flight sims like DCS, Falcon 4, ROF, etc.

Re: Hide your wallets..Steam Holiday Sale is on - 12/24/14 12:55 PM

My guess is less than 3%:)

Although i think it wouldn't be a good idea if all of a sudden sims got more and more popular. Then IMHO they would stop being sims and started to be another WoT or WT clones focusing on action, grinding and all of this crap.

I think sim fans have nothing to complain about these days (maybe BoS is a let down). We really have some good stuff out there.

Re: Hide your wallets..Steam Holiday Sale is on - 12/24/14 01:31 PM

There are like 25 million registered Steam users, aren't there? So I'd say that number is actually at best 1%, and of that 1% I'd bet no more than half actually would buy them, based on the number of people around here I see who look for reasons not to buy whatever sim it is instead of trying it.

Thanks for the insight that's a legitimate reason for BOS, I just found it really strange that people would vote for a 99cent game to be discounted to 50cents instead of two other newer games winning an actual meaningful discount, if I wanted a 99cent game I probably wouldn't wait for a 50cent discount but maybe that's just me.

I think it just goes to show how unimportant flight sims are in the Steam community. It's really not on the radar at all. Having said that, I don't have any flight sims in Steam since I see no reason to. I'd much rather have separate non-Steam installations of DCS World an Rise of Flight.

The FSX Steam Edition sold very well, reaching the top 3 in sales for that day, albeit at $5. Based on other titles/sales in that position that's probably over 250,000 unit sales in a 24-hour period.

It's not that absurd, that was actually my vote and I play flight sims. Why didn't I vote for BoS? Simple, I already bought it on early access.

Never underestimate how cheap people can be. Due to trading cards, the items marketplace and Steam wallet purchases not matching prices, people often have a couple of dollars floating around spare. In the community sale choice the cheapest title, regardless of what it is like, always tends to win. BoS has also got the dreaded 'Mixed' reviews rating in terms of community reviews, and that hurts it (at least on Steam, where people take that stuff seriously).

Ah yeah another good point too, I pretty much ignore all my trading cards but I can see where those 11cents per card sale can add up to buying something for 50cents.

Re: Hide your wallets..Steam Holiday Sale is on - 12/24/14 11:38 PM

BOS sale came and went, and I didn't bite. For once I have such a backlog of quality titles bought and not played, that I cannot justify buying something new. The amount of gameplay hours in DCS A10, il2 COD, SH4, Simbin racing, Skyrim, and Fallout Vegas are enough to keep me busy until well into next year, and that is just what I have on Steam.

Santa forgot about it, so I did an early morning stealth click on the Assetto Corsa "purchase" button.

Picked up the Euro Trucks 2 christmas bundle for just over 5 bucks a couple of days ago.

Considered Galactic Civilizations III at 50% off but resisted.

Also considered Wargame Air Land Battle but also held off. Anyone have any opinions on that one (in case it goes back on big sale) and also vs Red Dragon? I do not own any of the franchise yet.

waiting for a daily deal on Faster Than light (may have already missed it) and might pick it up if it gets a big cut.

Re: Hide your wallets..Steam Holiday Sale is on - 12/25/14 02:08 PM

I have Wargame EE and ALB and I must say I like both of them. They are basically RTS games, but without the base-management and resource-collection parts. You have your guys, you have sectors you must control, those sectors give resources, and you use THAT to get reinforcements/upgrades. Kinda like Company of Heroes but with tanks and helicopters and airplanes. What I like about it aside from the above is that you can place your units strategically. Put them on a hedge-row or just inside the treeline, put a scout helicopter a few yards back, and it's a perfect ambush spot!

I don't have RD so no comment on that; I've not finished my two games yet so it's easier for me to hold off on it.

FTL is a great game too! More of crew-management.... I only wish I had more missions so that I could trick out the crew/ship more.

All the stuff on my wish list hasn't dropped below 35% nope.

Only thing I've gotten so far is Silent Hunter III to replace my Boxed copy, which I had to mod to allow on my system.

Losing my unlimited internet in a week to go to who know what so I hope something I want goes lower but it doesn't look good...

I came very close to picking up BoS.I said I'd buy it at 50% off so I'll bide my time. I did get RoF Channel Battles edition even though I already own non-Steam RoF. Won't be the first time I've bought a sim more than once,I guess over the years I've bought IL2 3-4 times. When's the next sale,Easter? biggrin

I've picked up a few things from my wishlist actually, including Verdun. Most of the big name sale titles have not been of interest, but the flash sales have been better.

Agreed. I was rather saddened by that. It was already on sale for 75 cents, so the flash discount was only 25 cents lower. Although IL-2 did go down to $40 for 24 hours. I figured I would hold off on it for now as I got a new DCS module and want to buy the new EDGE terrains (whenever those might come).

Also thinking of War Game Red Dragon, but I am waiting to see how low it will go.

Watch Dogs looks kind of interesting from the hacking perspective. Even at 50% off $29.99 USD, I can wait awhile for it. Maybe next Christmas.

Watchdogs is one if the very few titles I felt the need to play until 100% completion was achieved.

Seriously captivating.
Not free from issues but they are so lost in the grand scheme of things that I barely registered them after a few hours.

Loved it.
Should a follow up be ever made I'd seriously consider buying it.

Re: Hide your wallets..Steam Holiday Sale is on - 12/28/14 09:14 PM

Wow! Good recommendation komemiute. Now I'm even more interested. Especially since the game play is non-typical of the mainstream games. I'm also interested in the Divinity Original Sin RPG. Typically they aren't my cup of tea. I don't think I have a turn based game in my collection. It looks interesting though and quite deep from what I gather.

I couldn't get into it. I did not like the gunplay. Maybe it gets better but it felt and played bleh to me.

I've been checking the Steam sale just about every day, but nothing's pushing my button. If i don't buy anything in this Christmas sale it will be two straight Steam sales with no new content in my library, and I always buy something on Steam sale. Guess I already have everything I want, although if FarCry 4 goes back on sale I would pick it up.

Anyway, as I was looking through the sale and finding nothing appealing, I remembered a friend gifted me Divinity Original Sin some months back, so I just started playing today. I have nowhere near enough time in to give a reasonable measured opinion, but from what I've read, it seems to have garnered critical acclaim. If you were around back in the day when games like Baldur's Gate, Ultima 7, Fallout, Neverwinter Nights and Planescape were the isometric apex of RPGs, and you liked those games, Original Sin should be right up your alley. Even if you weren't it might still appeal to you, and from what I've read the mechanics, combat and attention to details are top-notch. But I realize that a turn-based, top-down game won't be everyone's cuppa. I'm hoping to like it. Good RPG's are so damn addictive.

Aside from that, this game is a Kickstarter, and I'm glad to support any good game that comes to release if it might serve in some way to shake up or undermine the existing state/establishment of PC game development and publication (even if this particular title was a gift!)

Re: Hide your wallets..Steam Holiday Sale is on - 12/29/14 08:40 PM

Finally picked up Kerbal Space Program the other day and having a blast biggrin

I noticed Wolfenstein:New Order on special - having just played it through from the last sale, I'd say it's worth £15 or so. It's almost an interactive movie rather than a game, but it's quite a ride if you fancy an alternate Nazi-dominated timeline. Be warned it's not for the squeamish!

Is Dishonoured worth a look? The concept appeals but wasn't sure if the execution lived up to the trailers...

Re: Hide your wallets..Steam Holiday Sale is on - 12/29/14 11:11 PM

U-96, YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! to your Dishonoured question. I've been playing it since 2012 and still love it. Almost done wrapping up the Witches of Brigmoore DLC. I exuberantly recommend Dishonoured as well as the Knife of Dunwall and Witches of Brigmoore DLC. You don't need the others.

Great alternate universe with its own lore set in sort of a distinct and unique yet vaguely familiar Victorian/industrial revolution era steam punk world. I personally love the art/graphics style. Truly a standout first person stealth game to come out in a long while and executed extremely well. Everything just clicks with this one. Fluid movements and great weapons and gadgets. I recommend playing it on a higher difficulty setting and taking your time to read the books and notes found in-game to soak up the game's lore.

If you friend me on Steam, I will buy it for you. biggrin Practically every screenshot you take of this game is a piece of artwork.

Dishonored is a great game. The steampunk Victorian setting is a nice change of pace from the typical fare.

Both are great games if you like turn based tactical combat RPGs, amazing that both of these great games came out this year after a long drought for those of us who enjoy this type of game.

Just wondering... did you pick up any of the DLC for Alien Isolation? If so, does it add much to the game?

I think I'll buy Kerbal Space Program and Wolfenstein before the Holiday Sale ends. Most players here seem to like both.

FSX-SE
South Park: The Stick of Truth

I've mostly been playing South Park so far and absolutely love it, LOL funny.
